After getting a message from Dan that he finally got the 87/47 board and also had something interesting for it, I decided to have a walk from mine up to Mapperley Plains to join him for a quick blast round the countryside.
384 picks up a passenger at Woodborough Church with a 47 to Nottingham via Mapperley Plains, Mapperley and Mapperley Park.
After chasing a branded Sky Blue single decker, I finally managed to catch 386 on a beautiful evening - the Sky Blue colour represents its name here!
386 heads for Nottingham with a 46 from Lambley, Woodborough and Mapperley.
Against a backdrop of some beautiful architecture, Nottingham City Transport Scania N280UD / Enviro 400 City 438 - YN18 SVW arrives at the City Centre, South Sherwood Street on Skyblue Line 45 from Gedling which runs at frequent intervals of up to 7 minutes.

As luck would have it, just behind 604 on the 87, the 57 was actually an E400 Scania too!!
603 passes Mapperley Hall Drive with a 57 to Plains Estate via Sherwood, Daybrook and Arno Vale.
On the eastern side of Nottingham at Colwick was the main marshalling yard and locomotive depot for the Great Northern Railway. Built from 1875 at its peak it would cover 150 acres of land and contain 20 miles of sidings with the large locomotive depot having 17 roads plus repair shop. The complex was located in a triangle of lines with the Nottingham – Grantham line forming one side, with the west – north curve and east – north curve from this to the Mapperley line forming the other two sides. My visits to the depot started around 1967 and continued until it closed in 1969 and I would find stabled diesel shunters, class 20’s and the class 47 working the Cotgrave - Ratcliffe on Soar MGR circuit. To get to the depot you had to cross the west – north curve via a level crossing and this was controlled by Netherfield Lane Signal Box seen here on the 11th August 1977. By this time the yard and locomotive depot had long gone but the line was still open as a single track branch to Gedling colliery. The box contained a 16 lever frame and I suspect I was able to photograph the box as I was drawing up the proposals to convert the level crossing to an automatic type and abolish the box. Further information regarding this signal box gratefully received.
Here's a selection of three photos that I took earlier in the year that I've re-edited with all the new tricks I've picked up since I edited them the first time round. None of them have anything to do with Christmas but that's kind of point.
On the left is the end point of the best walk I've been on this year. Climbing high into the Torridonian mountains, we trekked up to Coire Mhic Fhearchair, which is a beautiful corrie loch that is surrounded by steep mountains on three sides, creating a secluded paradise that requires a bit of effort to reach. Due to us going off-season, we were the only three people there. I'll always remember my visit fondly.
In the middle is the giant rubbish stack that resides in Mapperley Tunnel. I've not been underground as much this year as I've covered most of what's on my doorstep. As such, I spent a few days down south, ticking off a selection of tunnels in central/northern England. This is where all your unwanted Christmas presents end up.
On the right is a scene from the campsite on Skye I spent two nights on back in June. For the most part, we had dull weather but right at the end of the day, some of the clouds broke allowing the sun to break through and light the Red Cuillins with their namesake colour. The rainbow is situated between the Red Cuillins and the Black Cuillins.
The original version of these photos that I uploaded looks quite flat compared to re-edited versions. While I have no intentions of going back and replacing all my old photos with newer edits, I still find going back and taking another look at my favourite photos to be fun and I'll maybe upload another three re-edits for the New Year.
The S11 is still running, offering an hourly bus from Mapperley, Arnold and Bulwell.
921 passes on Plains Road in Mapperley having just set off on an S11 to Bulwell via Plains Estate, Arnold and Top Valley. This had just been returned to service after repaint.
Although not many OmniDekkas featured on the 25/56 circuit, this one seemed to be a popular candidate for them, making a few appearances over the month the special timetables operated.

The testbed shot for 927, I hadn't realised this was due through first, there must've been some traffic out of Nottingham as there definitely wasn't ten minutes between the two of them....
660 leaves Nottingham behind on a 60 to Chase Farm via Mapperley and Gedling.
As the A612 has been shut to allow for highway drains to be installed for the new relief road which will run up to Mapperley Plains from Carlton-le-Willows.
Because Stoke Bardolph was deemed an inappropriate diversion for buses, the route has instead been sent from Burton Road to operate via Shearing Hill, Gedling Church, Lambley Lane, Spring Lane, Lambley Village, Park Lane, Lambley Road, Ton Lane and Epperstone By Pass to rejoin the normal route at Lowdham War Memorial.
388 climbs Spring Lane out of Lambley with an off route 26 to Nottingham via Gedling and Carlton.
Nottingham City Transport's unique Leyland Atlantean 666 (ARC666T) departing Kings Street for Mapperley. Today, we take for granted electronic-digital display information on buses, but when 666 was new in 1978, it was quite revolutionary (and very unreliable). However, by the time this picture was taken, the bus had lost its electronic destination display, but still retained its electronic number display.
About half an hour later, I snapped the same bus on the 46, the service alternating two hourly with one bus at night, this time on the opposite end of the diversion.
Between Plains Road and Mapperley Plains after 8pm, the 46 and 47 are diverting via Somersby Road, Arno Vale Road, Ramsey Drive and Coppice Road.
377 is seen climbing Ramsey Drive in the Plains Estate with an off route 46 to Lambley via Woodborough.
A chance grab whilst in Mapperley, I thought I'd include this just in case the cascade plan goes accordingly. There's talk of this joining 442-5 on the Purple circuit....
441 leaves Mapperley Shops with a 45 to Nottingham via Woodborough Road.
An interesting one to emerge on the 46/47 today, one of the six cylinder examples covered one of the four pots....
398 waits time at Spring Lane End on Mapperley Plains with a 47 to Nottingham via Mapperley and Woodborough Road.
440 turns on to Woodborough Road as it heads out the city to commence its run out to Mapperley and Gedling
The next Blackpool Solo to feature was via gen from a mate saying he saw it on the L11 earlier in the day, so I intercepted it four hours later.
YJ09OTK is pictured pulling away from the Top Valley Tesco stop with a Locallink L11 to Arnold via Bestwood Park. This stretch of the L11 is soon to cease, being superseded by the S11, which will be running between Bulwell and Mapperley via Arnold.
No longer the odd one out, today was the day the last swoosh E400 Scania came back to service in the revised spare colour scheme.
605 passes Pryzm with a 25 to Arnold via Carlton, Gedling and Mapperley.
A Sunday morning trio....
992 pauses with the first 59 of the morning to Killisick with 476 behind on a 58 also going to Killisick the longer way via Arnold Town Centre with 424 just setting off on a 25 to Arnold via Carlton and Mapperley.
I just liked the textures of the peeling paint on this one. I hope everybody has a great New Year! Taken in Mapperley, Nottingham 2011
On my commute to Nottingham, I passed the single car 45 morning working.
640 waits time at Mapperley Shops with a 45 to Gedling. It'll be a shame to see these go back to Gotham, it's been nice to have more E400s at Nottingham.
Nottingham City Transport 428 in Gedling on Sky Blue 45 from City via Mapperley. 26th September 2018.
By far the most interesting night route though, is the N27 to Mapperley. Here's 919 at the Victoria Centre, on the 0115 journey - which I also travelled on.
The route is a massive amalgamation of the following daytime routes, in order of coverage by the N27: 43, 27, 24/25 and 45. Starting off here, the service runs like the 43 as far as Cardale Road, where it then turns onto - making it the one and only bus route to use Cardale Road. At the end of that, it's on to Carlton Hill, and the route of the 27 until Cavendish Road - at which point it's a case of following the 24/25 routes to Shelford Road/Digby Avenue. There, it's up to Wollaton Avenue turning circle, and onto the route of the 45, terminating on Woodborough Road, at Shelton Street.
Stanton Gate 31-7-97 56047 has drawn the loaded rake of pipe wagons out of the temporary loading point on the former Stanton steelworks site and is now reversing the empties onto site through the bridge under the M1. This branch used to run through to West Hallam pit which actually was nearer Mapperley and also up to Shipley

Having arrived in on the 26 from Gedling, an afternoon of 25Bs beckoned!!
988 lays over on King Street with a 25B to Mapperley via Carlton and Gedling.
Shortly behind the 44A, a 25 arrived in from Arnold, Mapperley and Carlton with the driver having already reset the blind for the next trip outbound.
419 calls at Pryzm with a 25, ready to do a 25B back to Mapperley via Carlton and Gedling.
West Hallam 1984 56083 is preparing to depart on the dinner-time departure for Toton Yard with loaded HAAs full of opencast coal from the opencast site between Mapperley, Smalley and Heanor. The loaded wagons were shunted after loading under the screens into 2 sidings as a loaded train was too long for one. 56083 has picked up one part-rake and backed onto the other part-rake ready to depart. The empty wagons on the left are on the arrivals siding, unusually still with the lamp in place but I suppose this would be transferred onto the loaded train as it departs. The sleeper crossing and the catch-point at the bottom of the run-round loop are the only things left here to remind you of the railway. The track on the right originally went up to Nutbrook Sidings from where you could go on to Shipley Colliery
Hoping to get a good shot of this on the 25, I didn't realise they'd tweaked the daytime service to leave a couple of minutes earlier, it's been 18, 38 and 58 off Front Street for as long as I can remember!!
432 caught me off guard a little earlier than I'd expected, seen passing Asda on Arnold High Street with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

306 approaches the end of Shelford Road with a 45 to Nottingham via Mapperley and Woodborough Road. Are the Sky Blue OmniDekkas already in paint for their next role perhaps??
In the last week of operation, the through service from Beeston to Arnold is to be severed in Bulwell, with the L10/L11 circuit running on three buses, whilst a new S11 will run from Bulwell to Mapperley via Top Valley and Arnold.

924 departs City, Queen Street on Sky Blue Line 45 to Gedling, Wollaton Avenue via Woodborough Road and Mapperley, as advertised!
The 45 very rarely sees a spare during regular daytime operations so seeing a special, wrap-around livery was something far out of the ordinary.
924 was originally branded to serve Sherwood, Edwards Lane, Bestwood and Rise Park on Purple Line 89 before the route was taken over by branded Biogas Scanias.
