Nottingham City Transport 437 at Westdale Lane on Sky Blue 45 to City via Mapperley. 26th September 2018.

Mapperley Wood Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserve.

Mapperley, Nottingham. July 18th 2025.

It's been a while since I photographed this on the 45. Thinking about it, it was almost new!!

601 re-appeared back on the 45 today over five and half years since I last clocked it, pictured leaving Nottingham to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

Mapperley sunset . Thursday 03rd June 2021

After getting this on the 46 back in December, now I've got this on both of the Sky Blue routes.

309 picks up on Upper Parliament Street on Sky Blue 47 to Woodborough and Lambley via Mapperley Plains.

Looking up towards Mapperley Plains. Taken from the footpath running from Woodborough Lane (B684) to Woodborough Villiage. The sun was setting and was just below the top of the hill.

This is what happens when I borrow Paul (natural diversity)'s 500mm Nikon prime lens...well this and the hernia!! Thanks Paul :)

As luck would have it, this was also required after catching up with 476 in Gedling, so made my way over to Westdale Lane for this.

427 starts it's climb up Westdale Lane to Mapperley on a 25B.

From V reg to 64 plate over a weekend!!

961 is part of a batch of seventeen new Optare Solo EVs for use predominantly on services L3, L4, L9, L12, L22 and L23.

961 climbs Moore Road in Mapperley with a Locallink L9 to Bestwood Park via Sherwood and Arnold, with the sprawling Duncan Macmillan House seen in the background on Porchester Road.

Glimmers of Spring are emerging, with the dull leafless trees and hedges starting to show some colour again!!

439 passes Lambley Avenue on Westdale Lane in Gedling with a 45 from Nottingham, St. Ann's and Mapperley, the blossom just starting to bloom on the trees alongside the bus.

Two days on the bounce, another stretched single turns up on Sky Blues!!

390 is today's offerings, pictured leaving Upper Parliament Street with a 46 to Lambley via Mapperley, Mapperley Plains and Woodborough whilst 633 rests ahead of doing a round trip to Arnold and back on the 56.

An unusual allocation, even for a spare bus, is the sight of a 63 plate Enviro 400 Scania on the 25, which is some nine years newer than the buses branded for it!!

605 climbs the tough slog up Breck Hill Road in Woodthorpe with the last 25 of the day (on Sundays the last full 25 is 1630 from Arnold!) to Nottingham via Mapperley and Carlton.

Still freely accessible but a muddy walk

Took a trip to DWT Mapperley Wood reserve for my first wildlife foray of 2014. A pleasant morning it was!

This evening on the Lilac services sees an almost full allocation of Enviros, what with an E200 in use on the 25B and one of the two evening boards on the 27 using an E400!!

377 sits at Victoria Centre with the first of the Trent Bridge operated evening 25Bs to Mapperley via Carlton and Gedling.

Shipley Country Park

The park has earned the Green Flag Award for the quality of its green spaces every year since 2008. The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

In 2011 the park also achieved Country Park Accreditation from Natural England for its facilities and services.

Whatever the season, there's always lots to see and do in the park - walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching, angling, picnicking, kite flying, jogging, wayfaring, photography, exploring the park and much more.

Entry is free but a pay-and-display parking charge applies in the main car parks at the visitor centre and next to Mapperley Reservoir.

A lucky grab, this was actually five minutes in front of my 27, but due to the volume of traffic it got caught in, which in turn led to more people catching the service, we overtook it at Carlton Shops, handy when I needed a snap of this one!!

418 approaches Carlton Tesco with a 25 to Arnold via Gedling, Mapperley and Daybrook.

The second and slightly modified variation of the 47 ran the same way as previously as far as Calverton St. Wilfrid's Square, but then continued along Collyer Road and Flatt's Lane, where the bus joined Oxton Road, and made a diversion into Oxton village, before heading out again via Blind Lane and Southwell Road to rejoin the A6097, running into Lowdham the same way as previous via Epperstone on a two hourly basis Monday to Saturday daytimes.

As of the end of August 2016, the service has been curtailed to operate between Nottingham and Woodborough only. This has been done to save the Council subsidising the route when they needed to make cutbacks in the sector.

As a result, Nottinghamshire County Council now run between Oxton, Calverton, Woodborough, Epperstone and Lowdham hourly during the off peak hours with one of their dedicated dial-a-ride spec midibuses with route number 747.

386 is seen in the remote village of Oxton passing the village church in a very heavy downpour with a 47 to Nottingham via Calverton, Woodborough and Mapperley. The cars outside the church belong to the bellringers who were playing at the time.

475 is seen at Queen Street on Skyblue 60 to Chase farm via mapperley and woodborough road.

This young Springer spaniel was rather interested in the Mute swan armada. Harness, lead and hand strength were tested. The swans were, I think, more interested in seeing if any food was going to be offered.

A nice incident - but a horribly distracting background.

I have a puerile desire to draw a witty a speech bubble above the rearmost pair of swans.....

Whilst travelling back into Nottingham from Gedling, NMC's sole bus service was heading the opposite way.

The N73 operates hourly between Mapperley, Carlton Valley, Carlton and Netherfield using one of a number of short-wheelbase ALX200 Darts which originated with Stagecoach London.

Y348FJN is seen on Westdale Lane with an N73 to Victoria Park Morrison's via Carlton and Netherfield.

Today, a further five Omnidekkas were withdrawn from the NCT fleet. Thankfully, there are quite a few in service acting as spares!!

904 returns to Nottingham with a 25 from Carlton, Westdale Lane, Mapperley and Arnold.

Common Bluebell / hyacinthoides non-scripta. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 26/04/16.

From a couple of weeks ago in a local wood.

The image was made on a day of mixed weather with everything from bright sunshine to hail and snow. This made for even more acute changes in light than usual.

From time to time, it's possible to see lilac biogas deckers on Mansfield Road, to get to/from Arnold fast.

419 hurries through Sherwood out of service to take up the next 25 from Arnold to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

I hope everybody is well, I thought I'd just better pop in and update my 52 Week project – still having a good look at Ipernity, it's much quieter than Flickr but has a much nicer design.

419 is seen on carlton road on a 25 to Arnold via Carlton hill, Westdale Lane and Mapperley.

Photo opportunities like this are the very reason the camera now lives in my bag!!

YJ16DZO is one the newest buses in use with CT4N, seen in the old livery of Webberbus exiting Queen Street in Nottingham with a Locallink L9 to Bestwood Park via Mapperley, Sherwood and Arnold.

A solo trip for overtime this evening sees me venture to gelding via a 45 not done for quite awhile!

A surprise find on Front Street was this E400. As I didn't have chance to see which bay it was pulled in at with no display showing, it was going to be either the 25 or the 56, either way, a winner....

604 emerges on Cross Street in Arnold with a 25 in place of a Biogas variant, heading to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

In recent weeks, this particular Enviro 200 has been making itself at home on Sky Blue services, the shape of things to come perhaps??

376 sets down at Chedington Avenue in Mapperley Plains under rather threatening skies with the last 47A of the day to Lowdham via Lambley, Woodborough and Calverton.

CT4Ns network saw a bit of a shake up this weekend, seeing the Centrelink, Locallink L3, L6, L7, Shopper S43 and Worklink W2 all go, with some other routes amalgamated to cover the ones going. New Shopper services have been launched too, including the S11 which replaces the L11 between Bulwell and Arnold, but with an extension through to Mapperley via the Plains Estate!!

933 is seen on the first day of Shopper S11, pictured passing Trueman Gardens in Plains Estate with an S11 to Mapperley via Mapperley Plains.

The route out of Nottingham on the 45 is surprisingly hilly, Woodborough Road climbing at various points up to Mapperley from Nottingham.

434 makes light work of one of the many gradients on Woodborough Road with a 45 to Gedling via Mapperley.

One interesting service on the North side of the City is CT4Ns Shopper S11 which operates hourly between Woodthorpe and Bulwell running via Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Plains Estate, Sainsbury's, Arnold, Bestwood Park, Top Valley, Moor Bridge, Morrisons and Bulwell Hall Park!!

1003 exits the Norwich Gardens Turning Circle alongside the Chris Firth Cottages now used by The Toy Library, a local charity, with an S11 to Mapperley.

To ease overcrowding on the St. Ann's services at school time in the morning, an extra bus is slotted in on the 40B, which is provided by a Sky Blue Line Slimline Solo, which works in on a 47 from Calverton to Nottingham Upper Parliament Street, then runs out of service down the street to Victoria Centre, where it takes up the 40B to St. Ann's Well's Road Top, where it then runs out of service to Mapperley Shops to spend the day on the 46 between Arnold and Nottingham.

144 takes up the school extra 40B to St. Ann's in Nottingham on Upper Parliament Street.

Almost eight years to the day since the village was taken off the NCT map, Calverton is once again back on the table!!

This time round, the service will be much better, as there will be buses Monday to Saturday daytime every 30 minutes, and an evening and Sunday daytime service every 90 minutes.

At the same time, it also gives Lambley and Woodborough a 30 minute frequency between the villages which I believe is the first time they've had such a frequent service between the two.

The 61 route will be the same as the original 47 from Calverton St. Wilfrid's Square to Nottingham Upper Parliament Street running via Bonner Hill, Woodborough, Lambley, Gedling Country Park, Mapperley Plains, Mapperley and Woodborough Road.

Initially, the route will operate with any available midi, but that'll change next year as three Yutong E10s will be introduced.

309 does the honours as the first bus this morning with a 61 to Calverton via Gedling Country Park, Lambley and Woodborough.
