One part of City I've never really concentrated on, I thought I'd Carlton Road some airtime, as before this I'm not sure I even have that many photos from round here full stop!!

660 pauses at Randolph Street near the end of a 25 from Arnold, Mapperley and Carlton.

Photos seem to be rather scarce between either terminus point of Nottingham and Cotgrave, so thought I'd rectify this by walking out of Cotgrave along the bus route, as I could see arriving in the Sun was perfect. Given the service is every 20 minutes, it's not exactly a long wait out in the wilderness....

144 climbs Main Road on the approach to Cotgrave on The Cotgrave from Nottingham, Trent Bridge and West Bridgford. In the distance, you can just make out the Eastern part of Nottingham, places such as Carlton, Gedling and Mapperley Plains.

An interesting quirk currently whilst Thackerays Lane is closed, the 57Xs which normally avoid Arnold have been sent into it to avoid a lengthy detour via Mapperley to get to the Arnold schools.

Instead of following the 56, the 57Xs follow the 59 to the top of Gedling Road via Daybrook Square and Arnold Sainsbury's, then follow CT4Ns 19 along the remainder of Gedling Road down to the Arrow pub, turning left into Ramsey Drive to resume normal route.

536 passes The Amp, Arnold's 'indoor market' with an off route 57X to Plains Estate.

Dunnock / prunella modularis. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 25/01/17.

As a change from seeking out and photographing winter thrushes and Waxwings in urban environments, I've visited a local wood twice recently. No noise, interruptions, ducking and diving - just sheer bliss to sit quietly relaxed and see what turned up...and I wasn't disappointed!

After a horribly foggy morning, the sun suddenly broke through at midday, my cue to grab camera gear and head out.

By mid-afternoon the light was golden and gorgeous. When this little Dunnock perched out, enjoying some rays and backed by Hazel catkins, I just knew an image had to be made. I quite like the bokeh created and the tiny bird in its big golden habitat.

Due to roadworks on Mansfield Road, the Lime services were a bit out of sync late this morning, so to restore timekeeping, one of the 58s was sacrificed. This then allowed 994 to return to Nottingham empty via Mapperley and Woodborough Road to take up the next 56 to Arnold on time.

496 is pictured at Killisick Gleneagles Drive Terminus with a normal 59 (not school run) to Nottingham via Arnold, Daybrook and Sherwood.

Eurasian Jay / garrulus glandarius. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 28/01/19.

'THE SILENT JAY.'

An image made almost two years ago of a Jay who put in several appearances whilst I was in a local wood. It's preference was to land at a distance from a feeding area and then cautiously work it's way closer, checking round in every direction. The stealth and silence of the bird was in stark contrast to the noisy, raucous, flashy encounters I've most often had with the species.

After needing a few bits in Nottingham, I decided to walk back via the top of Sherwood as I saw the newest spare leaving to head out to Edwards Lane Estate, cutting it off on it's return trip.

309 starts the long ascent to Woodborough Road up Winchester Street and Mapperley Rise with a 40 to Nottingham via St. Ann's.

After a long reprieve, it's quite nice to see OmniDekkas once again crawling up Woodborough Road. As much as the drivers haven't enjoyed them on there for the last couple of weeks, it's been nice to see the 61 plates somewhere a bit different to the usual Cliftons they've been used on since 2019.

927 gets near the top of the long slog on Woodborough Road from Nottingham on a 60 to Chase Farm via Mapperley and Gedling.

Such pretty little vermin :)

Having been messaged by Calum he was helping out Tiger on school work from my end of the City, I walked up to Plains Estate to catch up with him briefly.

YN07EYB leaves Plains Estate on Newcombe Drive with a 910 to Carlton via Mapperley Plains and Mapperley. I wonder if this one ever did 57s in it's past??

Chaffinch / fringilla coelebs. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 28/01/19.

One very relaxed male Chaffinch that was enjoying some winter sunshine.

Chaffinch / fringilla coelebs. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 28/01/19.

I captured this male Chaffinch enjoying some winter sun at the end of January.

He was completely relaxed. With feathers fluffed out to trap air, (personal duvet style), he perched high up in full sunshine, loving every minute!

One happy Chaffy…

Brian Clough cheers on the investment made by NCT, clocked alongside the newest bus in the fleet to date.

423 loads up a 25B to Mapperley via Carlton and Gedling.

Not my greatest effort by any stretch but it's still not all that common to see E400s on the 45, even moreso the special liveried ones....

Seen at Mapperley Shops after finishing on route 25B.

I'm not 100% on ID, but I think these are Schaefferia emucronata (3-4 ocelli on each eye patch and prominent anal spines) and a new find for me, so quite pleased. I was checking out a new site at Mapperley Tunnel, these guys were found on bits of wood in pitch black conditions, Mapperley tunnel(Gedling Pit) is a disused railway tunnel and it was a very spooky place indeed, but great fun, I will return there and venture further into the abyss. My intention was to try and find some troglobite Collembola, I did get a fleeting glimpse of a Neelus murinus, but it got away. Most of the individuals in the montage are juveniles I think, not easy to focus on due to poor lighting near the tunnel entrance, I will have to work on a lighting set up and try and work further down the tunnel :o)

I did a montage as I need to find a way of presenting a load of images together as I'm worried that Flickr will remove the ability to share images in the comments.

Common Bluebell / hyacinthoides non-scripta. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 26/04/16.

From a couple of weeks ago in a local wood.

The image was made on a day of mixed weather with everything from bright sunshine to hail and snow. This made for even more acute changes in light than usual.

I was lucky to snap this one, as it should've already gone by the time we were due at Thackerays Island....

418 swings round to Breck Hill Road with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

Great tit checking out the noise of my shutter on the second shot.

Still a sight quite unfamiliar to me, E400s are slowly making more appearances on the 45, after almost six years in service!!

614 waits on King Street to depart with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

An interesting find on my way home tonight was the use of an OmniLink on the 25!! As luck would have it, this was replaced with an OmniDekka at Mapperley, so glad I got it when I did....

Whilst walking to Nottingham ahead of my second day back at work, the second bus for the 45 passed me at Mapperley Top, working empty to Gedling to start running alongside 427 to provide a 30 minute frequency.

429 passes Mapperley Monument out of service.

Mapperley wood yesterday - in the rain.

Having seen the former demonstrator re-emerge in traffic today after a spell off the road, I decided to have a walk from mine at the top of Arnold down to Gedling to document it on something other than 50s....

500 heads down Westdale Lane in Gedling with a 45 from Nottingham and Mapperley.

My three colleagues look on as MGR wagons are filled at the loading hopper at West Hallam Disposal Point, Mapperley, Langley Mill, Derbyshire. 18th September 1985.

Although the blind has faded somewhat, this is actually on the 47, which is one of the last routes I needed a green example on!!

352 turns into Milton Street with a 47 to Woodborough via Mapperley, Mapperley Plains and Lambley.

Part 2 was a very quiet night on 45s closing out the weekend away from 49s

First thing in the morning, the 45 only runs hourly at the moment using one bus, the second one not starting until 0848 from Gedling.

620 was this morning's bus of choice, pictured turning into King Street in Nottingham with a 45 from Gedling and Mapperley.

As services start getting back into full swing, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people on a 25 out of Arnold at half 5 in the afternoon!!

614 gets ready to swing round Thackeray's Island in Woodthorpe with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

As I was hoping to have snapped this on the 45 on the day I snapped it on the 49 instead, today I did manage to find it on the 45 after I'd finished work and walked home to Arnold.

603 is pictured on Plains Road in Mapperley with a 45 to Nottingham via Woodborough Road.

Rainy and dark in Mapperley wood yesterday and I struggled to cope with the low light. At least it was dry in the hide!

This beautiful little lady never disappoints down at Mapperley Wood DWT reserve.

Grey Squirrel / sciurus carolinensis. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 13/03/16.

I quite like the fine hair detail that I managed to catch on this Grey Squirrel's bushy tail. BEST VIEWED LARGE.

I remember the GS was fascinated by a large heap of rotting reeds and other pond debris, the result of some conservation work in the area. It made frequent visits and had a good scrabble about each time, sometimes finding acorns it (or others), had cached and also nibbling on roots that it managed to expose.

I always forget the 45 comes into Nottingham along Milton Street. For some reason, I never normally see them!?

435 heads up Milton Street with a 45 from Gedling, Mapperley and Woodborough Road.

Nottingham City Transport 438 heading downhill in Gedling on Sky Blue 45 from City via Mapperley. 26th September 2018.

After our disappointment of not finding any locos at Bennerley DP, and Moor Green colliery, we were pleasantly surprised to find 08814 engaged in a bit of shunting at West Hallam Disposal Point, Mapperley near Langley Mill, Derbyshire. 18th September 1985.

Due to snow NCT had many diversions in place, including the 45, the 45 was terminating at Mapperley Shops, and then headed empty along Mapperley Plains to the Catfoot Lane roundabout to turn around.

Seen heading towards Mapperley Shops to start a 45 to Nottingham.
