The route out of Nottingham on the 45 is surprisingly hilly, Woodborough Road climbing at various points up to Mapperley from Nottingham.
434 makes light work of one of the many gradients on Woodborough Road with a 45 to Gedling via Mapperley.
From time to time, it's possible to see lilac biogas deckers on Mansfield Road, to get to/from Arnold fast.
419 hurries through Sherwood out of service to take up the next 25 from Arnold to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.
The frequency on the 45 has once again been boosted back to every 7/8 minutes from every 10 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes, meaning it's even more convenient to just turn up and go at any stop on the route with no real need to check the timetable!!

Now that additional vehicles are required for the L10, L11 and L14, the former Medilink Solos 925-933 look set to become the new buses used.
926, now void of branding, gets perfectly framed by the trees of Queens Bower Road with a Locallink L9 to Nottingham via Arnold, Sherwood and Mapperley.
One interesting service on the North side of the City is CT4Ns Shopper S11 which operates hourly between Woodthorpe and Bulwell running via Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Plains Estate, Sainsbury's, Arnold, Bestwood Park, Top Valley, Moor Bridge, Morrisons and Bulwell Hall Park!!
1003 exits the Norwich Gardens Turning Circle alongside the Chris Firth Cottages now used by The Toy Library, a local charity, with an S11 to Mapperley.

The 24 is essentially a shorter version of the 25, to strengthen the service between Nottingham, Carlton and Gedling to every ten minutes Monday to Saturday daytime. At peak time Monday to Friday, the services run to/from Mapperley every ten minutes, morning to Nottingham, afternoon to Mapperley.
419 is seen climbing Westdale Lane on the final leg of the 24, the sprawling backdrop including Netherfield and Victoria Retail Park.
Quite literally fresh out of the box, the last remaining gas deckers out of the initial thirty are ready for service.
422 is seen at Charles Street in Arnold with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

Whilst keeping a lookout for new Lime Biogas devices, something else of interest popped up, too!!
967 pulls away from Arnold Sainsbury's with a Locallink L9 to Nottingham (eventually) via City Hospital, Sherwood and Mapperley.
As luck would have it, about an hour after leaving Dan at Mapperley Plains having had a jaunt round Lambley and Woodborough on his random allocated bus, he emerged on Arnold Front Street, this bus doing one round on the 47, then two on the 87.
384 is unusually seen departing Arnold Front Street on it's way back to Nottingham via Redhill, City Hospital (wrong side to it's usual haunts) and Sherwood.
With a perfect number of branded buses in use on the 45, spares don't seem to come up too often on the route, so I was thankful when one I needed turned up in Nottingham in the afternoon peak time.
433 loads up at Queen Street with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.
The 46 operated the same way as the 47 between Nottingham and Spring Lane End, but then continued along Mapperley Plains, then down Coppice Road and Ravenswood Road into Arnold, terminating on Front Street outside Asda.
This route was cancelled at the end of August 2016 when the council were pulling the funding from the 47 services. This change saw the 46 and 47 offer circular services around Woodborough and Lambley into Nottingham up to every 30 minutes. As the service ran at near identical times to the 56, passengers along Ravenswood Road and Coppice Road still have a service to Nottingham, but it takes an additional ten minutes in comparison.
387 turns into Coppice Road on the edge of Plains Estate with a 46 to Arnold.
TEST 1
Trialing out my new camera ahead of launch of the gas Scanias, here's a spare working which needed crossing off, an 11 plate on the 45.
903 loads up on Queen Street with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.
The Locallink L9 operated between Bestwood Park and Nottingham on a very convoluted route to serve a lot of places around the area off the beaten track.
Commencing at Hillington Rise, buses turned right to the bottom of Chippenham Road, turning left and immediate right to serve Mildenhall Crescent. From there, buses followed the 79 route to Arnold High Street before carrying on along the 58 route to Sainsbury's. From there, buses ran along Sir John Robinson Way, passing the new Aldi store on Mansfield Road before turning right at Daybrook Chip Shop onto Sherbrook Road. About half way along, buses turned left onto Sherbrook Terrace which turns into Longmead Drive. A slight tour round Northwood Crescent brought the service back onto Longmead. At the Premier cornershop, buses then turned left and followed Alderton Road onto Edwards Lane, where the L9 followed the Purple Line services to Sherwood Shops via City Hospital. Turning left at Winchester Street, buses followed the L8 service into the Winchester Court Flats complex, where a loop of the car park was observed.
Heading back out of the complex, instead of turning off to Winchester Street, buses climbed the first stretch of Mapperley Rise before turning an awkward 315 degree angle onto Sherwood Vale continuing along it and Woodthorpe Road to join the 45 route on Woodborough Road. The service then followed the 45 via Mapperley Shops as far as Moore Road on Westdale Lane, taking a right into the Moore Road dip, running the full length up onto Porchester Road. The service then followed the 39 route as far as St. Matthias Road via Thorneywood Mount and Gordon Road. The L9 then used St. Matthias Road to join Carlton Road, following Lilac Line services into Nottingham via the Ice Arena and Hockley, terminating outside the Post Office on Queen Street.
Nottingham Community Transport took over the service on the 25/1/15, with no changes to the route or the timetable, continuing to run hourly Monday to Friday and two hourly Saturday.
261 climbs Moore Road in Carlton Valley with a Locallink L9 to Bestwood Park via Mapperley, Sherwood and Arnold,
illustrating the dramatic backdrop of layers of houses down and up the valley to Porchester Road, with Duncan Macmillan House dominating the skyline.
A surprise find on Front Street was this E400. As I didn't have chance to see which bay it was pulled in at with no display showing, it was going to be either the 25 or the 56, either way, a winner....
604 emerges on Cross Street in Arnold with a 25 in place of a Biogas variant, heading to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.
Not just Navy OmniDekkas displaced, the three unbranded E400s are playing an important part too!!
639 sits in the queue on Upper Parliament Street with a 60 to Chase Farm via Woodborough Road, Mapperley and Gedling.
Notts & Derby Paladin 123 passing The Old Black Horse in Mapperley with the LAST 13 service from Ilkeston. As from Monday 31st, Yourbus have taken over some routes, but the 13 is no more.

Breaking free from the shackles of the 4, one of the oldest surviving OmniDekkas in the NCT fleet spent the day on the 25, now normally in the hands of the Biogas Scanias!!
689 loads up at The Crescent on Breck Hill Road in Woodthorpe with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.
Nottingham City Transport 651, a 1979 Leyland Atlantean bus, is about to make the right turn from Mansfield Road into Blue Coat Street, as it departs the City for Mapperley, a district to the Northwest of Nottingham. The picture was taken about halfway up Mansfield Road, where the road climbs out of the City centre towards Sherwood. Our view of the scene is looking in a Southwardly direction back towards the City centre.
By today’s standards this road junction appears to be incredibly quite in 1987, with just two Ford Sierra cars to accompany the bus through the junction, of which one looks to be a taxi.

One good thing about snapping here on Carlton Road, it's a contant stream of Lilacs, I think I managed to tick off most the buses I needed in just over an hour along here. Not bad for upwards of ten buses out of the City Centre....
423 heads up Carlton Road with a 25 to Arnold via Carlton, Gedling and Mapperley.
When peak time timetable changes were introduced on Monday on Blue 40/41/42, it appears two more Solos make an appearance now to smoothen out the poor punctuality of the group of services.
237 punches the bottom of the hill on Mapperley Rise with a 40 to Nottingham via St. Ann's. This journey runs off the back of the school extra 88 from Oakwood Academy at 1517.
A bizarre sight to see in an evening is that of a midibus working on the 25B, yet it happens Monday to Friday on the 2047, 2147 and 2247 departures out of Nottingham, working alongside the --:17 departures using an OmniDekka!!

Whilst waiting for a late-running 17, I noticed this running into Nottingham, so whilst I was waiting, I thought I may as well get my first gas spare on the 45....
428 turns into Milton Street with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

The NCT Bus is an AEC Renown, registered in 1965, C Reg, could be DAU 364C,
which was on the Mapperley 31 route.
Behind it is another Renown, on route 41 (Trent Bridge?)
These were brought in to replace the Trolley Buses.
By the time BR came into being, its obvious that the old way of dishing out districts on the Railways had changed, Victoria Station was Great Northern and Great Central Railways, later LNER, but here the signage is Midland Region.
Down the old GCR line e.g., the ident was Eastern Region, however the whole line was originally Eastern, later becoming Midland Regions.

Took a trip to DWT Mapperley Wood reserve for my first wildlife foray of 2014. A pleasant morning it was!

Nottingham City Transport 995 parked up at its Wollaton Avenue terminus at Gedling in September 2016. At that time, the view beyond the housing seen here was of fields and the site of former Mapperley Colliery, returned to nature. Today, a large area of the old colliery site and some of the surrounding greenery is lost to housing development.
The Scania N230UD, OmniDekka was sold to Beestons of Hadleigh, Suffolk in 2022 for further use. Since 2024, the bus has been with Mario Coach Travel of Barrowford, Nelson in Lancashire and carries an all-over silver livery.

Still showing its Stagecoach London fleetnumber 34251, it was new to Selkent.
Due to my bus from Arnold breaking down in Sherwood (991), I decided to hang on in Nottingham and wait for this to arrive in on a 25, as I passed it on Thackeray's Lane.
433 sets down at Victoria Centre with a 25 from Arnold, Mapperley and Carlton.

‘RESILIENCE … NEVER THINK NEVER’
Clearly a NOT so ‘squirrel proof’ Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder …
This character made light work of removing the top from a bird feeder designed to prevent just such a thing from happening! Once the lid had been knocked to the ground, the Squirrel climbed inside and positioned itself at the bottom, between the outer casing and the inner wire cylinder containing peanuts. It then proceeded to dine in style in a most leisurely way, taking in the view between mouthfuls. Cheeky!
