Whilst travelling back into Nottingham from Gedling, NMC's sole bus service was heading the opposite way.

The N73 operates hourly between Mapperley, Carlton Valley, Carlton and Netherfield using one of a number of short-wheelbase ALX200 Darts which originated with Stagecoach London.

Y348FJN is seen on Westdale Lane with an N73 to Victoria Park Morrison's via Carlton and Netherfield.

Today, a further five Omnidekkas were withdrawn from the NCT fleet. Thankfully, there are quite a few in service acting as spares!!

904 returns to Nottingham with a 25 from Carlton, Westdale Lane, Mapperley and Arnold.

Common Bluebell / hyacinthoides non-scripta. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 26/04/16.

From a couple of weeks ago in a local wood.

The image was made on a day of mixed weather with everything from bright sunshine to hail and snow. This made for even more acute changes in light than usual.

From time to time, it's possible to see lilac biogas deckers on Mansfield Road, to get to/from Arnold fast.

419 hurries through Sherwood out of service to take up the next 25 from Arnold to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

I hope everybody is well, I thought I'd just better pop in and update my 52 Week project – still having a good look at Ipernity, it's much quieter than Flickr but has a much nicer design.

419 is seen on carlton road on a 25 to Arnold via Carlton hill, Westdale Lane and Mapperley.

Photo opportunities like this are the very reason the camera now lives in my bag!!

YJ16DZO is one the newest buses in use with CT4N, seen in the old livery of Webberbus exiting Queen Street in Nottingham with a Locallink L9 to Bestwood Park via Mapperley, Sherwood and Arnold.

A solo trip for overtime this evening sees me venture to gelding via a 45 not done for quite awhile!

A surprise find on Front Street was this E400. As I didn't have chance to see which bay it was pulled in at with no display showing, it was going to be either the 25 or the 56, either way, a winner....

604 emerges on Cross Street in Arnold with a 25 in place of a Biogas variant, heading to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

In recent weeks, this particular Enviro 200 has been making itself at home on Sky Blue services, the shape of things to come perhaps??

376 sets down at Chedington Avenue in Mapperley Plains under rather threatening skies with the last 47A of the day to Lowdham via Lambley, Woodborough and Calverton.

CT4Ns network saw a bit of a shake up this weekend, seeing the Centrelink, Locallink L3, L6, L7, Shopper S43 and Worklink W2 all go, with some other routes amalgamated to cover the ones going. New Shopper services have been launched too, including the S11 which replaces the L11 between Bulwell and Arnold, but with an extension through to Mapperley via the Plains Estate!!

933 is seen on the first day of Shopper S11, pictured passing Trueman Gardens in Plains Estate with an S11 to Mapperley via Mapperley Plains.

The route out of Nottingham on the 45 is surprisingly hilly, Woodborough Road climbing at various points up to Mapperley from Nottingham.

434 makes light work of one of the many gradients on Woodborough Road with a 45 to Gedling via Mapperley.

One interesting service on the North side of the City is CT4Ns Shopper S11 which operates hourly between Woodthorpe and Bulwell running via Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Plains Estate, Sainsbury's, Arnold, Bestwood Park, Top Valley, Moor Bridge, Morrisons and Bulwell Hall Park!!

1003 exits the Norwich Gardens Turning Circle alongside the Chris Firth Cottages now used by The Toy Library, a local charity, with an S11 to Mapperley.

To ease overcrowding on the St. Ann's services at school time in the morning, an extra bus is slotted in on the 40B, which is provided by a Sky Blue Line Slimline Solo, which works in on a 47 from Calverton to Nottingham Upper Parliament Street, then runs out of service down the street to Victoria Centre, where it takes up the 40B to St. Ann's Well's Road Top, where it then runs out of service to Mapperley Shops to spend the day on the 46 between Arnold and Nottingham.

144 takes up the school extra 40B to St. Ann's in Nottingham on Upper Parliament Street.

Almost eight years to the day since the village was taken off the NCT map, Calverton is once again back on the table!!

This time round, the service will be much better, as there will be buses Monday to Saturday daytime every 30 minutes, and an evening and Sunday daytime service every 90 minutes.

At the same time, it also gives Lambley and Woodborough a 30 minute frequency between the villages which I believe is the first time they've had such a frequent service between the two.

The 61 route will be the same as the original 47 from Calverton St. Wilfrid's Square to Nottingham Upper Parliament Street running via Bonner Hill, Woodborough, Lambley, Gedling Country Park, Mapperley Plains, Mapperley and Woodborough Road.

Initially, the route will operate with any available midi, but that'll change next year as three Yutong E10s will be introduced.

309 does the honours as the first bus this morning with a 61 to Calverton via Gedling Country Park, Lambley and Woodborough.

1988 Volvo 240 GLT.

Suppled by Speeds of Mapperley (Volvo).

Photo with kind permission of succulent95.

Most likely the rarest or most unusual allocation I've seen to date?

This vehicle previously advertised Purple 89 branding but since the withdrawal of the Purple E200s for the 87 and 88, all Purple deckers were rebranded to suit all three routes.

473 unusually swings onto the turning circle on Wollaton Avenue in Gedling with a Sky Blue 45 from Nottingham via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

Whilst waiting for a late-running 17, I noticed this running into Nottingham, so whilst I was waiting, I thought I may as well get my first gas spare on the 45....

428 turns into Milton Street with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

European Robin / erithacus rubecula. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 21/11/15.

Taking centre stage, one very dapper Robin!

Not one of 'my' Robins from the private site I use, but one in a local wood. Interestingly, much more wary, so I was pleased when it eventually posed so nicely.

The blurred branches in the background remind me of spotlights focussing on and around the bird! Would love to know what others think.

One good thing about snapping here on Carlton Road, it's a contant stream of Lilacs, I think I managed to tick off most the buses I needed in just over an hour along here. Not bad for upwards of ten buses out of the City Centre....

423 heads up Carlton Road with a 25 to Arnold via Carlton, Gedling and Mapperley.

47739 passes Rectory Junction in full sun whilst threatening skies loom over Nottingham in the background. 6E07 the 11.51 Washwood Heath - Boston Docks empty steel working is seen passing Rectory Junction box at 14.23 on Thursday 16th August 2012.

The train is travelling on the Nottingham to Grantham line and the section of track from Netherfield Junction to here was once the western edge of Colwick yard. The two lines furthest right are the access to the oil terminal but previously these lines were two of those that headed from this point to Gedling and North through Mapperley tunnel, they bounded the East side of the massive Colwick Yard. Up to the mid 60's the space in-between the two pairs of lines was nothing but railway as far as the eye could see.

Here's a photo taken from the opposite side of the tracks from Rectory box.

www.flickr.com/photos/fireman_fotter/5310197421/

The line to Netherfield Junction is on the left and the train is coming off the yard and is on the lines now used for the oil terminal, it will shortly pass the box and head off over the Trent and South towards Grantham and possibly the ECML. The signal to the left of the buffer beam places the train as that is number 3 home signal as was complete with fireman's call plunger sign on the post. That was replaced over time by the much shorter current number 55 signal which stands in almost the same spot. Number 55 signal can be seen in my photo just poking above the third and fourth wagons. (the signal arm obscured by the backboard that virtually all new signals seem to have these days).

Nottingham City Transport 441 in Gedling (Westdale) on Sky Blue 45 to City via Mapperley. 26th September 2018.

Grey Squirrel / sciurus carolinensis. Mapperley Wood, Derbyshire. 28/01/19.

‘RESILIENCE … NEVER THINK NEVER’

Clearly a NOT so ‘squirrel proof’ Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder …

This character made light work of removing the top from a bird feeder designed to prevent just such a thing from happening! Once the lid had been knocked to the ground, the Squirrel climbed inside and positioned itself at the bottom, between the outer casing and the inner wire cylinder containing peanuts. It then proceeded to dine in style in a most leisurely way, taking in the view between mouthfuls. Cheeky!

Having lunch in town, we noticed the short 69 plate MMC heading off out into the wilderness on Sky Blues, so ventured up to Mapperley behind it to catch up with it on it's return.

309 pulls away from Newbury Close on Mapperley Plains with a 47 to Nottingham.

The 46 operated the same way as the 47 between Nottingham and Spring Lane End, but then continued along Mapperley Plains, then down Coppice Road and Ravenswood Road into Arnold, terminating on Front Street outside Asda.

This route was cancelled at the end of August 2016 when the council were pulling the funding from the 47 services. This change saw the 46 and 47 offer circular services around Woodborough and Lambley into Nottingham up to every 30 minutes. As the service ran at near identical times to the 56, passengers along Ravenswood Road and Coppice Road still have a service to Nottingham, but it takes an additional ten minutes in comparison.

387 turns into Coppice Road on the edge of Plains Estate with a 46 to Arnold.

The 24 is essentially a shorter version of the 25, to strengthen the service between Nottingham, Carlton and Gedling to every ten minutes Monday to Saturday daytime. At peak time Monday to Friday, the services run to/from Mapperley every ten minutes, morning to Nottingham, afternoon to Mapperley.

419 is seen climbing Westdale Lane on the final leg of the 24, the sprawling backdrop including Netherfield and Victoria Retail Park.

Now that additional vehicles are required for the L10, L11 and L14, the former Medilink Solos 925-933 look set to become the new buses used.

926, now void of branding, gets perfectly framed by the trees of Queens Bower Road with a Locallink L9 to Nottingham via Arnold, Sherwood and Mapperley.

This was my first taste of night Spotting with this camera went surprisingly well a few months ago I got a few photos before and they came out all blurred but this one just happened to be a decent shot.

Nottingham City Transport Scania N230UD ADL Enviro 400City CBG 467 (YN19EFA) is spotted pulling away from Queen Street working the late running 17:35 25B to Mapperley Shops via Carlton Hill, Carlton Square and Westdale Lane.

The first day of the revised Sky Blue services, the only real change that's occurred to the double deck service is the route number.

436 passes the end of Mapperley Shops with a 60 to Nottingham via Woodborough Road.

TEST 1

Trialing out my new camera ahead of launch of the gas Scanias, here's a spare working which needed crossing off, an 11 plate on the 45.

903 loads up on Queen Street with a 45 to Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.

After being being blocked of a shot of 669 on the Calverton I want that confident of getting of getting a shot of 252 ten minutes late. A car tried it's bast to get in the way but luckily I was able to get it.

Nottingham City Transport Yutong E10 252 (YH24MFE) Is seen on Bonner Lane working on Sky Blue Line 61 to Calverton via Mapperley, Woodborough and Lambley.

Another shot from my early morning outing with Paul, the mist on the lake wasn't quite what we'd hoped for but can't complain at the frost.

Critique always wlecomed.

Photomatix and Photoshop used to try and keep this realistic.

Quick outline of method: Created two differently tone mapped images in Photomatix using -2,0 and +2EV shots, one using Fusion Adjust and the other using Details Enhancement. I then blended thse in photoshop, adjusting for levels and adding sharpness. I hope this process has kept the realism on the right side.

A few minutes after 501 had gone through on a 24, this came down Westdale Lane, bang on time, and luckily in full sun too!!

636 prepares to turn into Holyoake Road in Gedling with a 45 from Nottingham, Mapperley Hall and Mapperley.

Quite literally fresh out of the box, the last remaining gas deckers out of the initial thirty are ready for service.

422 is seen at Charles Street in Arnold with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

A couple more from the pre-Christmas trip to Mapperley Wood DWT Reserve.

With a perfect number of branded buses in use on the 45, spares don't seem to come up too often on the route, so I was thankful when one I needed turned up in Nottingham in the afternoon peak time.
