American pancake, fruit and maple syrup on a pink plate

many thanks for all your visits
My nephew has been in Vancouver in the last 6 months to chase and live his CG artist dream, he came back for a wedding and brought us all this beautiful Maple Syrup souvenir. He left this morning to go back to continue his dream, we're hoping he will reach goal soon and come home to us as soon as he can.
An old shack at the maple sugar camp that I think was once where the syrup was boiled.

These metal buckets are collecting sap from maple trees that will be turned into maple syrup by boiling off most of the water in large vats. Buckets were the traditional way to do this but modern operations use plastic bags or use long collection tubes that empty into a common tank. Yesterday was Maine Sugar Sunday when over 100 producers invite the public to visit not only to purchase syrup or other maple products like candy, popcorn, and nuts (all are delicious) but to also view the production facilities. For children there were some special activities. This photo was taken a Goranson Farm in Dresden, Maine. For Werner.
Maine, at 2.2 million L (580,000 US gal), is the the third largest producer of maple syrup after Vermont and New York. The Canadian province of Quebec leads the world in maple syrup production. In 2019 the average price per gallon in the US was $31.
The sap is beginning to run, so we headed to Wheelers Maple Sugar Camp. After breakfast, we sauntered into the boiler room where one boiler was working away.

Maples trees with their annual spring phlebotomy. Once the sap is collected, the real work of producing maple syrup begins.
Just a few drops of maple syrup to cut the tartness of just-picked Skagit Valley raspberries. Lazy breakfast outdoors on one of our last predictably perfect September mornings, air finally clear of wildfire smoke and record heat.

We visited the sugar bush on Monday, or at least we ate at the sugar bush restaurant, after which, we did a quick tour of the museum.
I have shot in there any number of times but never with my wide angle lens. I want to use that lens more this year, and this was an opportunity.
Focusing on the corner of the fence brought it toward the camera while the rest was pushed back. Look how long that corridor stretches, and it's really not very long.
I also decided on black and white, but I reduced the opacity back to 90% to let a tint of colour back in. I like that effect sometimes.

The sap is running, and maple season is in full gear. This is a bottle of maple syrup and maple sugar candies.
I guess this could be a double HMM -- Happy Mono Monday and Happy Macro Monday.

Having seen what I thought was a maple syrup bottle in Elisa's submission to the Group I went looking and found at least something similar.
Plonked it on my table-top, fixed a background, shone a desk light, grabbed my 'point & shoot' camera and took just the one photograph of the neck of the bottle.
Just a little post-processing to get rid of a mark on the bottle and a bit of the dust, and this is the result.

I stopped on a small Vermont backroad to photograph this sugar shack from the street. I was unaware that the farm owner had been watching me, but eventually he approached me on his ATV and told me to feel free to take photos from his property and to go anywhere I wanted. With one exception (a Quebec farmer unfortunately), every person I have encountered while photographing buildings or landscapes has been friendly and offered to let me walk around their property. In the process, they also tell me a little about the area and their work. They are pleased that someone else likes what they have done well enough to want to photograph it. One property owner in Peacham, Vermont has a sign at the end of their driveway welcoming photographers to take photos from their property. Sadly this man in Westford is winding down his syrup manufacturing. He will be selling his sap this year and not boiling it. I believe he will continue with his raspberry operation. It only occurred to me when I got home that I should have asked to buy some of his syrup. If I pass there again I will not forget. Vermont is a nice place with good people (at least all the people I have encountered)!

You will also find many lovely desserts at Cafe Bokeh too :)
Because maple syrup should always be taken in a shot glass, right? 🍁 Seriously, I sip it like this sometimes...

It's early spring which is maple sugar time in New Hampshire and Vermont, where the sap from maple trees is converted to maple syrup by boiling out the excess water. It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup. Some of the large commercial sugar houses have reverse osmosis systems that remove about 2/3 of the water prior to boiling.
This small sugar shack is located in the aptly named town of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, and also nearby the famous Polly’s Pancake Parlor.
Thanks for your visit.
This is an ancient recipe in an old Canadian Cookbook. My tried and true recipe for scones. And, I like to blob them onto the baking pan instead of forming or cutting them out..... I love a rustic looking scone.
Back in the day, it was just a recipe called Sweet Tea Biscuits (basic recipe). Under the main recipe... there were some variations. The first one was Currant Scones. So, as much as I've read about scones vs biscuits.... the only difference in these was .... the currants or raisins. I guess they didn't differentiate.
I added some lemon juice to the milk .... and, 1/2 tsp. Maple Flavouring and also some real Maple Syrup as well ...and then...when they came out of the oven...drizzled more Maple Syrup on them while they were hot.
These particular scones got slightly more brown than I like .... because I was doing the usual... 4 things at the same time.
"Somebody" said they were the best ever. ... and, that I should over brown them regularly.... hmppff .....
Sometimes I like pancakes for lunch...today I made strawberry butter for my pancakes...delightful.
Here you can find the recipe for Strawberry Butter on my blog, Baking is my Zen.

Everytime I go to Wheelers, I feel compelled to take a photo of these maple syrup pails, but I don't think i've taken this exact shot before.
Now that Danica is choosing to port my 7D around, she seems to be drawn to the similar shot (see below). I think I like her POV (in Comments) better than mine. As we wander about, I am sometimes surprised that she sees similar shots to what I take. But since she's lower to the ground, her perspective is often better.
She had been using my old Digital Rebel, but that conked out, so it's the 7D for her now, which is quite a jump in equipment.
For the sake of my Down Under Flickr Friends, I am also posting, below, the map that shows visitors from the Land of Oz. How weird and wonderful that visitors from Australia find this little, rural, out-the-way place.
Especially dedicated to Aussies Red Stiletto, Jennifer, and Gerald (all with clickable links).
