Continuing my piece about Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
This shows a book named "A clever daughter" which has been attached to a canvas backing over which I have stitched an old embroidered tray cloth.
I have inserted a book mark , the top of which is a machine embroidered portrait of Elizabeth, and at the bottom is a quote from her poem which she wrote whilst living in Hope End, Ledbury

I have just started a piece which will go on exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham in March as part of the Sewing for Pleasure show.
At present I have started sampling one of the three portraits I will be using.
This is the first effort - very clunky and not useable except as a sample. It always starts out that way when I haven't stitched for some time.
Machine embroidery on to chiffon.
I've added machine embroidered red circles to the hand made paper background.
These small items have been stitched with five shades of red using cotton, silk, rayon and metallic threads. They add a bid of drama and sparkle to the piece.
I'm on the final stretch now and just need some time in the studio to add hand stitched details.
I'm still enjoying embroidery, with my Brother embroidery machine, Brody, and Stitch Era Universal ! There's almost nothin' I can't do !
Today's effort is the tiny 'MH' logo you often see on the sports Scream Uniforms. I did it m'self ! This one is about a half inch square, so you'll be seeing it on doll clothes soon. This is just a test stitch-out.
But I'm quite happy with it !

My goal this week is to finish the textural stitching on these panels for the shrinebook. This is the first of them without geodes or nodules that only required the buttonhole stitch and bars. Really loving the finished effect. Still contemplating the need for a small border to set off the designs, and tie them together when assembled.
Turn a plain cardie into something special with machine applique flowers and leaves - a project for the October issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine
"Passage" is a quilt done for the Three Creative Studios 2010 Quilt Challenge. A portion of a painting showing the artist's brushwork is called a passage. My interpretation of a small piece of Van Gogh's "Crows Over Cornfield" (or Wheatfield, depending on which book you're lookong at) was a little more work than I want to tackle again!!!
