OK - so this is my first attempt at machine embroidery! It isn't something I'm proud of, but I include it here for the sake of completeness!

I ought to explain that for many years my sewing machine and I were not even on speaking terms, and it's only comparatively recently that we have come together to produce straight lines. Well, I say 'straight'...

Anyway - 'little circles', Karen said, as though that were even possible. It was like patting my head and rubbing my tummy at the same time. On top of a series of dog- and white-goods-related unfortunate events this was making me so tense that eventually I accepted this was as good as it was going to get! I don't think it will stand up to being cut away and left to flap about in my sketchbook so I'm not sure how this will be progressed. But just thought I had better show you - so you all know I haven't disappeared off the face of the earth and am still working through the course at my own snail's pace!

It has spongy-plasticy-packing foam stuff between the outer and the inner lining, to protect my Kindle. It velcroes shut. I thought the Flamey design was appropriate (Kindle "Fire") haha :)

One lone Santa in the bunch. I plan to make a few more of the Santa ornaments over the next couple of days.

Cover a round pocket mirror in fleur-de-lis freestanding lace! Fancy schmancy.

Mixed media portrait of the Wolverhampton Suffragette, Emma Sproson who was imprisoned in Stafford Goal for her political activities.

I have stitched on to handmade paper and added paint, pigment ink and varnish.

Black Leopard Purse I made. The skeleton birdie is Urban Thread's design. I wanted a design that was subtle on this print. Can't get more subtle than a skeleton bird!

I'm really enjoying creating these small portraits which are destined for my workbook.

These are attempts to take a quick sketch from my sketch book, transfer it on to fabric and then cut off the hair in an attempt to change the gender of the image.

This has been only partially successful but I've had fun in the meanwhile

Yesterday I got it all together - I cleaned the house, baked a cake, mowed the lawns and had afternoon tea with my family ... AND I finished the stitching on my big artwork!

Any suggestions for a title? I thought "River of Dreams" is a bit twee ...

I was hoping for more of a Christmas red with these #handdyed fabrics. I am sure they will make beautiful Christmas projects, even if the color is not quite what I was going for. All pieces shown were dyed using the same dye solution.

This has a base of painted and guilded Lutradur which has been overstitched and then burnt back using a heat gun and a soldering iron.

I have used two surveillance photographs of Suffragettes which I have coated in soy wax and then attached them to the back of the Lutradur.

I have left these undecorated as I prefer a more muted effect.

Purple and orange color scheme for this one. It took my embroidery machine over an hour to complete this!! It was the longest one I have designed yet.
