Velvet and Silk paper with free machine embroidery.

On the Danube trip we were taken to a Folk Museum. A lady was creating wonderful machine embroidery on an old treadle sewing machine. Then a couple came to show us the local folk dancing and as you can see her clothes display some of the beautiful embroidery.

Started with a scrap swap on the Old Red Barn QAL group. Blogged here

As I have the sewing machine out I decided to use up some scraps of fabric which have been lying around the studio for ages.

These flowers, fabric strips and machine embroidered image are the result of a happy afternoon's work.

The swirl on the right is free-motion machine embroidery onto paper. The rest is hand stitching ,with a bit of applique ,onto various different fabrics and some paper.I worked in sections and then pieced them together....next the sequins .... then attached this to the hand dyed green cotton backing.

Textile canvas using free hand machine embroidery.

June's entry for Lola Nova's stitched journal project. We have had a very special visitor in our garden, A Nightingale. We have named her Beverly and she is truly joyous to hear.

The left hand, second page of the Jane Austen book, showing how the colour scheme alters as the pages are turned. I hoped to show with this page that Jane's life had quiet periods of melancholy. The central image is of the original text of the novel "Persuasion". I have transferred this by means of an ink jet print, covered with selotape and then coloured with shellac

Adding pieces to my recent work which is based on the role gender plays in interpreting political statements.

The views shown are not my own words but are statements I've obtained from on line and they are applied to fabric using differing techniques.

The background to this text is a piece of my erosion bundle from last winter with added ink and paint

Have you ever seen the cartoon animation Chicken Run? It tickles me to think of chickens on a mission to escape. That's what I'd do if I was one :)
