Velvet applique, free machine embroidery on silk fibre paper attached to a sketch book cover. I though this had a late 50s sort of look and wonder if I should explore this theme further.
Two Urban Threads designs combined here. I modified the skull by adding some black mesh where the eyes and nose are.
I wanted to add more to this sweatshirt on the sleeves and front, but I ran out of purple. :(
Dishwasher Magnets...design by Urban Threads
I covered them with clear vinyl, so no dirty fingers will soil them.
First foray into machine embroidery, after a long, long, long break from it. Thank you to Jackie (dogdaisy) for your help!
I just can't resist piling on the embellishments...

Ornament made on a Janome Memory Craft 350e with design from www.urbanthreads.com. It's a little hard to see in this shot but there's a skull hidden in the lace. I love the finished design but working with metallic thread is a pain in the rear! It's constantly jamming and you have to watch it like a hawk.
This has been long in the making - and not entirely successfully so far.
I have constructed a large area of experimental weaving, including torn sari material, knitting, crochet, wool and fabric strips and then laid these on a base of chiffon.
A layer of chiffon is now being densely machine embroidered on top and this will eventually be burnt back to the stitching line by means of a heat gun.
Fingers crossed that this labour intensive piece works out as planned.
Penguin and Reindeer wrapped in Christmas lights designs from Embroidery Library on dark red and bright red felt
This is the first in my series of women who achieved greatness despite the times in which they lived.
It forms part of a large, medieval screen.
More details to follow
Experimenting with altering, distressing and manipulating textiles for stitched journal project. Trying to capture the feeling of the constant rain hammering against the window day in day out.
More photos here - design comes from Urban Threads
I used a purse zipper and cut away the excess fabric around it for the trim and a cool skull charm I picked up from the craft store.
I am due to deliver a finished piece for exhibition on Saturday, and it isn't even started yet
The theme is (of course) the suffragette, Emma Sproson, who was placed in solitary confinement in Stafford Gaol for her activities.
This confinement took place just after her "confinement" with child, and she was obliged to leave the baby with her husband as babies were not allowed in gaol in those days.
I imagine Emma yearning for her child and sitiching a cap for it for when she was released.
I am now exploring bonnet structure and these are the first two examples.
The first one is made using chiffon, which has been machine embroidered, and then the fabric has been dissolved with a heat gun.
The second is made from stitched newspaper, which has been rubbed and then dampened and rubbed again.
I must finish sampling now and get down to producing the finished product.
I put this quilt together to see what I could learn about combining machine embroidery with quilting. The center hearts are a featherquilt pattern from embroiderylibrary.com. The is either free motion, walking foot or machine stitches.
Ladies and gentlemen, step right up, and witness a wonder never before seen ...Urban Threads' first alphabet designs, and the new Cirque Alphabet!
This photo was taken October 4, 2013. It is now 7 months later and it still looks exactly like this, except that it is folded up in a bag in the closet. I really NEED to finish this someday soon!

Haven't tacked down the ribbon yet. Debated, but only ran the embroidery once (on tough things I sometimes do twice for better coverage). This does not have puff foam. Pretty happy with it. Urban Threads design, eBay hat. Did resize it down a tad from the large size as brim has metal under straw at edge.
Fun, quick little project: Felt Piggy Bank decorated with a UT flower applique design. I saw a similar piggy bank on Pinterest and made a design file to make my own stylized version and imported UT's flower onto it. Made "in the hoop".
I think he'll live in my purse from now on, so I can save my quarters for more UT designs!
