USSC #312, a GP11, passes one of the numerous sugar cane load out along USSC's system. This loaded has dried out for this year, but during the next harvest it will be busy once again. Something also worthy of note in this scene are the rails under the loader, hidden in the grass, it is stamped '1903 CARNEGIE.' Hard to believe these rails still serve trains during every harvest.

At midnight, everything looks abandoned.

Progressing through the loader at Silverdale Colliery are 20016 and 20081, they have an MGR which will form the 09.40 to Fiddlers Ferry power station.

The first shafts were sunk at Silverdale Colliery in the 1830's and initially it produced ironstone as well as coal. The colliery was completely rebuilt during the 1970s but it closed in 1998, the last deep mine in North Staffordshire.

20016 was built at the Vulcan Foundry as D8016, it entered traffic 30/12/1957 it was withdrawn 30/06/2010

20081 was a Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn product entering service 31/08/1961 as D8081 it was withdrawn 30/08/2010 Both finished their career with Harry Needle Locomotives.

This page is a bit busier than I usually like, but I thought it fit the crazy mood of this moment so I went with it.

Not my finest work, but I wanted to share this micro Rock Monster. The main body is a no pattern mini Piraka head and the back is a pair of those guns that shoot studs. I don't have many parts in this color so I had to improvise.

I know it's been done loads of times before!

The driver of 66 425 is in communication with the shunter on the ground at Ripple Lane FLT with a radio coordinating the loading of 4L48 which calls in here on its journey from Daventry Railfreight Terminal to Purfleet. Leaving at Daventry at 1351 its arrives in East London at 1648 and departs the short journey to Purfleet at 1901 . After much shunting the service didn't actually depart and was terminated here and ran in the same timings the following evening.

These machines were popular in mines and quarries, across the galactic disc. Their legs enabled them to clamber over rough terrain that would have been inaccessible to wheeled or tracked vehicles.

Journaling reads:

Every time I remember this day my heart skips a beat.

I find I let my older kids explore more, push their boundaries and take advantage of more opportunities for independence. I hold my younger kids far tighter than is necessary or warranted.

Caden had been watching his big brother out on the water for most of the summer. He really wanted to go in and try it for himself. I was unreasonably panicked that he might get hurt, tired, lost. Pick a panic; I was worried.

Cole took the other kayak and was very good teaching his brother how to maneuver the awkward hunk of fiberglass and paddle. And then, following behind, he let him go.

That was when my heart skipped a beat.

Then I realized he was fine. He was thrilled. He was happy.

Caden, my baby, is growing up.

CSX T601 sits in the mist and fog of a cool gray of a winter's morning in Martin, Kentucky as the train awaits the crew to be called to take it on its journey.

This train was from one of my first (and few) trips into coal country, so to be honest I don't really know a whole lot about the who, what, and where for this one.

Tugboat Dorothy Ann and its mated barge Pathfinder were moored at the LafargeHocim dock at Marblehead, OH for a load of stone. It would later depart for Cleveland and arrive that evening.

My first stretch load

A frame taken at the A J Williams open cast disposal site at Cwmbargoed in January 1989. BR Railfreight 37798 had arrived with 28 HAA hoppers and the set had been split for loading. A trio of mechanical shovels had just commenced the loading of the first 18 wagons, the remaining raft of ten are to be seen waiting to the left. When the loading had been completed, the train would depart as the 7C86 13:38 MGR to Aberthaw Power Station.
