Macro Monday Theme : Line Symmetry

Beauty is rather a light that plays

over the symmetry of things

than that symmetry itself.

The symmetry in letters is quite interesting. Ignoring the details of individual fonts and looking just at the basic letter shapes we find that A M T U V W and Y are symmetrical about a vertical axis, B C D E and K are symmetrical about a horizontal axis while H I O and X are symmetrical about both. X is also symmetriocal about two diagonal axes while as a circle, O is symmetrical about an infinte number of axes. I tried to think of a palindrome to give me both a horizontal and vertical line of symmetry but the only word I could think of was MUM and even this was impossible as Bananagram only has 3 Ms!

St. Jesse of Tsilkani in Georgia is one of the twelve Syrian disciples of St. John of Zedazeni who are remembered as the founding fathers of Georgian monasticism.

The photograph is of the partially complete church dedicated to St Jesse and funded by a Georgian billionaire who has been particularly attracted to rural Wales and my local area. Construction work has stopped at the exterior and the interior is just a vast empty space.

St Jesse is historical fact!

The rest is a figment of my imagination.

All you have is a folded and cut piece of paper just within the 3 inch requirements. I was surprised at the effect different types of paper made to the appearance.

The paper shape has the line symmetry even if the lighting makes it look a bit different. Instead of background to set off the object I've included foreground!

These poppies grow in our local park. I’ve never seen the inside of a poppy head before. I cut this one in half straight down the middle to take a look.

Found it hard to focus on all the different little seeds across the two halves, so photographed this using Pixel Shift (an in-camera stack of multiple images). With a Macro-Takumar 50/4 lens.

The geese in our yard have been shedding feathers and I always love rain drops on anything, so although my husband may disagree, I am happy for the rain and the geese :) Used my 50mm with an extension tube to get the shot. HMM!

Speelgoedwasknijpertje, in plaats van een metalen veer zit er een elastiekje in, maar dat werkt niet, je kunt er zelfs geen poppen-wasje mee aan de lijn hangen.

Toys clothespin, instead of a metal spring, there is a rubber band, but that piece of elastic doesn't do the job, you can't even hang small doll'clothes with it on your washing line.

Macro Monday, June 25th 2018

Captured in: Smithtown, NY.

It might be the Audrey III, or perhaps a new man-eating plant from outer space, however it's definitely safe to say this image was not captured in a Little Shop of Horrors. ;)

Pictured here is a simple Sunflower that's starting to open from a rather small bud. It did have an almost menacing sci-fi alien quality to it, but should bloom into a gorgeous yellow flower in the next few days.

This image is also my entry into this week's Macro Monday theme... The topic being "line symmetry". The example found here is being reveled at the center of the image -- specifically in the head of the sunflower. If you look at the image in full size, you will see a circular seed pattern in the middle which can be marked by a diagonal line of symmetry through the center.

There are other areas of symmetry located throughout the flower as well... Since the flower is still opening, the petals are not quite in a perfect mirror arrangement just yet -- but it's certainly on its way.

HMM!

"Feed Me Seymour" is an HDR macro image constructed from 5 bracketed shots using a 1 stop differential. The shot was processed in ACR, tone mapped w/ Photomatix, and later finished in Photoshop.

PS processing also includes the use of Topaz Labs plugins -- Adjust, AI Clear, Glow, Impression plus the addition of a few textures as well.

Macro Mondays: Redux (Line Symmetry)

This is a repeat of the 2018 theme "Line Symmetry". The red objects are game pieces to a Pente game, photographed on the playing board. I shot this in a dim room to minimize reflections, then cleaned up the resulting noise in post processing.

100 mm, polarizer, shutter release, tripod (of course).
