Colosseum VIP Tour Of Lower Levels & Underneath, Rome, Italy
Located just east of the Roman Forum, the massive stone amphitheater known as the Colosseum was commissioned around A.D. 70-72 by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty as a gift to the Roman people. In A.D. 80, Vespasian’s son Titus opened the Colosseum–officially known as the Flavian Amphitheater–with 100 days of games, including gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights. After four centuries of active use, the magnificent arena fell into neglect, and up until the 18th century it was used as a source of building materials. Though two-thirds of the original Colosseum has been destroyed over time, the amphitheater remains a popular tourist destination, as well as an iconic symbol of Rome and its long, tumultuous history.
Origins of the Colosseum
Even after the decadent Roman emperor Nero took his own life in A.D. 68, his misrule and excesses fueled a series of civil wars. No fewer than four emperors took the throne in the tumultuous year after Nero’s death; the fourth, Vespasian, would end up ruling for 10 years (A.D. 69-79). The Flavian emperors, as Vespasian and his sons Titus (79-81) and Domitian (81-96) were known, attempted to tone down the excesses of the Roman court, restore Senate authority and promote public welfare. Around 70-72, Vespasian returned to the Roman people the lush land near the center of the city, where Nero had built an enormous palace for himself after a great fire ripped through Rome in A.D. 64. On the site of that Golden Palace, he decreed, would be built a new amphitheater where the public could enjoy gladiatorial combats and other forms of entertainment.

After nearly a decade of construction–a relatively quick time period for a project of such a grand scale–Titus officially dedicated the Colosseum in A.D. 80 with a festival including 100 days of games. A well-loved ruler, Titus had earned his people’s devotion with his handling of recovery efforts after the infamous eruption of Vesuvius in A.D. 79, which destroyed the towns of Herculaneum and Pompeii. The final stages of construction of the Colosseum were completed under the reign of Titus’ brother and successor, Domitian.
The Colosseum: A Grand Amphitheater
Measuring some 620 by 513 feet (190 by 155 meters), the Colosseum was the largest amphitheater in the Roman world. Unlike many earlier amphitheaters, which had been dug into hillsides to provide adequate support, the Colosseum was a freestanding structure made of stone and concrete. The distinctive exterior had three stories of arched entrances–a total of around 80–supported by semi-circular columns. Each story contained columns of a different order (or style): At the bottom were columns of the relatively simple Doric order, followed by Ionic and topped by the ornate Corinthian order. Located just near the main entrance to the Colosseum was the Arch of Constantine, built in A.D. 315 in honor of Constantine I’s victory over Maxentius at Pons Milvius.
Inside, the Colosseum had seating for more than 50,000 spectators, who may have been arranged according to social ranking but were most likely packed into the space like sardines in a can (judging by evidence from the seating at other Roman amphitheaters). Awnings were unfurled from the top story in order to protect the audience from the hot Roman sun as they watched gladiatorial combats, hunts, wild animal fights and larger combats such as mock naval engagements (for which the arena was flooded with water) put on at great expense. The vast majority of the combatants who fought in front of Colosseum audiences in Ancient Rome were men (though there were some female gladiators). Gladiators were generally slaves, condemned criminals or prisoners of war.
The Colosseum Over the Centuries
The Colosseum saw some four centuries of active use, until the struggles of the Western Roman Empire and the gradual change in public tastes put an end to gladiatorial combats and other large public entertainments by the 6th century A.D. Even by that time, the arena had suffered damaged due to natural phenomena such as lightning and earthquakes. In the centuries to come, the Colosseum was abandoned completely, and used as a quarry for numerous building projects, including the cathedrals of St. Peter and St. John Lateran, the Palazzo Venezia and defense fortifications along the Tiber River. Beginning in the 18th century, however, various popes sought to conserve the arena as a sacred Christian site, though it is in fact uncertain whether early Christian martyrs met their fate in the Colosseum, as has been speculated.
By the 20th century, a combination of weather, natural disasters, neglect and vandalism had destroyed nearly two-thirds of the original Colosseum, including all of the arena’s marble seats and its decorative elements. Restoration efforts began in the 1990s, and have proceeded over the years, as the Colosseum continues to be a leading attraction for tourists from all over the world.
A living shoreline built to withstand sea level rise due to climate change is seen on July 20, 2017, at Conquest Preserve on the Corsica River in Queen Anne’s County, Md. It’s the first in the country to use a “shingle beach” design—a mixture of sand and small cobblestone that is light enough to respond to waves and rising waters in the decades to come in order to provide important near-shore habitat for animals like blue crabs and young fish. The project, led by National Wildlife Federation, was designed by Albert McCullough of Sustainable Science LLC and completed in August 2016 with support from partners like Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Wildlife Conservation Society's Climate Adaptation Fund. Saturday morning I went to Kits Beach and as I saw the logs on the beach, I though about how trying something or making a significant change in one's life can bring challenges.
However, I know I overcome any challenge put before me, by drawing strength from those that believe in me and by continuing to believe in myself.

After consultation with my Myeloma Specialist/Hematologist, I've made the choice to add an additional chemo to my Pomalyst chemo treatment. My December blood test results show that my cancer levels have increased from 8 in November to between 10 and 11 now. It should be more effective to have 2 chemos fighting my multiple myeloma now, before my cancer levels get too high. Multiple myeloma has severe symptoms that hopefully I can minimize with lower cancer levels.

The details are still being worked out, although I hope to start soon. I'm staying positive that my cancer levels will drop - and stay down for a long time.
To recap: On Sunday, December 31st, I completed Cycle 38 Week 3. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare cancer of the immune system. It is incurable, but treatable. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex). On July 16th, my dexamethasone treatment ended, due to eye damage, as reported by my Glaucoma Specialist, from long-term use.

I was fortunate to witness (and photograph) this amazing sunset on the plaines of Kansas. Aside from performing a bit of cropping and adjusting the black levels a bit, this is a straight out of the camera shot.
I really don't get much MOTU. For whatever reason, the figures remain kind of hard to get at a retail store level, and I'm really not that big of a fan TBH.
So why did I get the Mondo 1/6 She Ra timed exclusive? Because honestly, I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I effectively gave up ever trying to find a She Ra that's better than the Classics figure because, well, it was just too much work. Might as well go for the biggest and baddest, right?
Now before I begin, it should be noted that like Victory Saber, this figure has been plagued with a plethora of QC issues. Things are so bad that Mondo just recently stated they would provide all customers with a replacement head. I actually got a completely new figure, and had to frankenstein the two sets to arrive at what I'd consider an acceptable set given the circumstances.
So if nothing else, I have to give Mondo customer service two enthusiastic thumbs up.
Lets get down to business then.
The set is priced at $250 USD, which includes shipping directly from Mondo themselves. I have no idea what the actual window was. This is probably one of the few 1/6 figures I've ordered where the promised delivery date actually was met, so good on Mondo.
The box itself came fairly well packed, with corner protectors for the art box itself, and tissue paper protecting the window under the magnetic cover. The actual paper used for the art slip cover is a bit flimsy, but at least it is pretty. Art on the actual box itself is quite nice, though I am in position to critique it anal retentively
'm not the biggest She Ra fan, so with regards to the the contents of the set, you have various accessories that let you create toy, Filmation, and I believe an original look. There's also two pieces of rear hair, with one having a dedicated slot for the scabbard. There's also Kowl, the flying owl looking thing. There's also a a wired cloth cape, and a stand, the latter of which I never used.
Unfortunately, She Ra only comes with one head, which means only one expression.
So to start, there's no manual. While this generally isn't an issue with these sorts of figures, but I REALLY could have used some help with attaching the cape, and to some extent the scabbard.
The figure itself is a 1/6 scale action figure. What I mean by that is it feels like a luxury version of a.. I'll be nice and say a NECA or something. I mean, would a proper outfit on a body have been nice, but the bigger issue is the articulation.
It's basically the same as you'd get from your standard run of the mill action figure, with the added bonus of limitations due to the length of the hair and the skirt, the latter of which can be damaged if you stretch it too mu (i.e. beyond the leg position in my photo). Ankle articulation is strangely non existent,
I guess at least she has a functional waist joint. She also has double jointed knees but in practices you're really not going to get much use out of them.
Then there's the QC issues regarding the joints - the body parts on my figure range from fairly tight to loose like a night walker.. Some of the hands don't stay in the socket that tightly. and parts where plugging in is involved, most notable being the various head crests, have a difficult time tabbing in. In the case of the head crest, it is because the sockets not only need to be precisely sized, there's also location and shape in play as well.
Paint is... iffy. It's generally OK, but when you find something wrong, it's aggravating. For, it was the fact that both of heads I received thus far couldn't even get the lipstick on her actual lips.. *sigh*. While we're on the topic, both heads featured a flat nose that fortunately a bit of hot water was able to fix.
The weapons are not just of varying size, but even their handles are different sizes, so you can imagine how well the fists works. Unlike Hot Toys, the fists are actually of a relatively stiff material, and are not only a pain to get open in order to accept the weapon, but also, can cause paint rubbing off the weapon, or the hand itself.
So we've got a 1/5 figure with kind of meh QC and average articulation. So with any real dynamic posing out of the way, you're left with basically variations of standing poses.
Thank goodness that the cape itself, while frustrating, can add a much needed sense of dynamism. The overall colour scheme of She Ra her self also helps make the total package look pretty damn good, even if she's basically just in a static pose. The variety of display options is also quite nice, and to be honest it's nice having an extra body so I can actually display the figure in multiple ways.
Kowl is.. well he's alright. The arms rotate at the shoulder, and he's big and colourful. That's about all I can say. I guess I can add that he'd really hurt someone if you threw it at them.
So overall, my first Mondo experience was alright. There are some things that really need to be improved upon, and Mondo is addressing some of them. I think I could have lived with the overall level of QC if she could at least have posed better.
Still, I'm happy to see that She Ra at the very least turned out better than some of the Batman Animated Series stuff I've seen.

A pair of GBRf hired DRS Choppers nos. 20302 and 20301 "Max Joule 1958-1999" come out of the sun and head 6Z20 10.00 Gloucester - Derby Litchurch Lane through Tamworth, consisting of two tank wagons used in conjunction with the movement of new London Underground S Stock from Derby (branded as 'Barrier Wagons' - they would have been match wagons in my BR days, barrier wagons were something completely different back then). Another pair of Choppers nos. 20308 and 20305 "Gresty Bridge" dead in-tow on the rear.

Progress of works in February 2014 for the removal of the level crossing at Springvale. The bridge deck is complete and the new depressed line is being excavated and the new station is under construction, immediately to the north of the old one.
Works are to be completed during 2014.

The Mano River Union Secretariat (MRU) and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) organized a high-level sub-regional meeting from 25 to 26 November 2019, in Freetown, Republic of Sierra Leone. The purpose of the meeting was to review the role of the Joint Border Security and Confidence Building Units (JBSCBUs) in order to draw lessons from the current status of these units and to analyze ways to improve and make them fully operational on a sustained basis, taking into account the socio-economic and political situation of its Member States in the sub-region; as well as to review the various existing MRU peace and security frameworks and make proposals for joint activities.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Amb. Medina A. Wesseh, Secretary General of the MRU; Mrs. Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel; Prof. David J. Francis, Chief Minister; Mr. Francis Kaikai, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Mr. Edward Soluku, Minister of Internal Affairs and other officials of Government from the Republic of Sierra Leone, members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, Officials of Government and technical experts from the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Republic of Liberia, Republic of Guinea, UN Resident Coordinators from MRU member states, UNDP Resident Representative and other development partners, Peace and Security Advisors from the UN system of the sub-region, presidents from the MRU JBSCBUs, representatives from the Civil Society including the Mano River Union Women’s Peace Network (MARWOPNET), representatives from the National Election Commissions of Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire.
The meeting noted with satisfaction the positive steps taken by the MRU Secretariat in reinforcing engagements with partners to promote regional stability through existing mechanisms within the sub-region. They called for the conduct of peaceful elections in Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire in 2020.
In this regard, and after full consideration of the issues under discussion, the meeting expressed gratitude with the level of partnership between the MRU and UNOWAS for the organization of the high-level meeting on peace and stability with focus on the JBSCBUs, and therefore resolved as follows:
Affirmation on consolidating democracy, peace and stability by identifying ways to prevent and reduce tensions related to pre and post electoral crises, and other governance issues in the sub-region;
Development of a strategic framework of cooperation between the UN system and the MRU that will identify joint initiatives within the peace, security and development nexus;
Consideration of upgrading the capacities of the JBSCBUs to function at an optimal level as an early warning and response mechanism, and create a framework for member States to take ownership of these mechanisms;
Expanding partnership engagements at multilateral and regional levels that will enable member states to address external threats and other cross-border crimes;
Creating a platform to increase advocacy on human rights issues, issues related to women and youth empowerment, as well as peace building with a particular focus on strengthening the capacity of MARWOPNET.
The participants expressed satisfaction with the convergence of views on all the issues and concerns raised, and expressed particular delight with the spirit of mutual understanding and cordiality that prevailed throughout their deliberations. They further reiterated the strong need to take all measures that would promote regional peace and stability, prevent and reduce tension in pre and post electoral context in Member States, enhance the capacity of the JBSCBUs to address cross border challenges and ensure socio-economic development and regional integration in the sub-region.
The participants expressed their appreciation to the Government of Sierra Leone, the MRU Secretariat, and UNOWAS for the well-organized meeting and efforts to making it successful.

Réunion sur la Paix et la Sécurité dans l’Union du Fleuve Mano
Le Secrétariat de l’Union du Fleuve Mano (UFM) et le Bureau des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest et le Sahel (UNOWAS) ont organisé du 25 au 26 novembre 2019, une réunion sous-régionale de haut niveau, à Freetown, République de Sierra Leone. L’objectif de la réunion était d’examiner le rôle des Unités Conjointes de Sécurité des Frontières et de Restauration de la Confiance (UCSFRC) afin de tirer des leçons de leur état actuel et d’analyser les moyens de les améliorer et de les rendre pleinement opérationnelles de manière durable, en tenant compte de la situation socio-économique et politique de ses États membres de l’UFM. Les participants ont également passé en revue les différents cadres de gestion de la paix et de la sécurité et fait des propositions d’activités conjointes.
Ont participé à cette réunion, S.E. l’Ambassadeur Medina A. Wesseh, Secrétaire générale de l'UFM, Mme Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, Représentante spéciale adjointe du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest et le Sahel, le Professeur David J. Francis, Ministre d’Etat, M. Francis Kaikai, Ministre du Plan et du Développement Economique, M. Edward Soluku, Ministre de l’Intérieur et d'autres autorités du Gouvernement de la République de Sierra Leone, des membres du corps diplomatique et consulaire, des responsables gouvernementaux et experts techniques de la République de Côte d'Ivoire, du Libéria, de la République de Guinée, les Coordonnateurs Résidents des Nations Unies auprès des États membres de l'UFM, le Représentant Résident du PNUD en Sierra Leone et autres partenaires au développement, les Conseillers en paix et développement du système des Nations Unies de la sous-région, les présidents des UCSFRC de l’UFM, des représentants de la société civile dont le Réseau des Femmes de l'Union du Fleuve Mano pour la Paix (REFMAP), et des représentants des Commissions Nationales Electorales de Guinée et de Côte d'Ivoire.
La réunion a noté avec satisfaction les mesures positives prises par le secrétariat de l'UFM pour renforcer les engagements avec les partenaires afin de promouvoir la stabilité régionale par le biais des mécanismes existants dans la sous-région. Ils ont appelé à la tenue d’élections pacifiques en Guinée et en Côte d’Ivoire en 2020.
A cet égard, et après un examen approfondi des questions discutées, la réunion a exprimé sa gratitude envers le partenariat établi entre le Secrétariat de l'UFM et UNOWAS pour l'organisation de cette rencontre de haut niveau sur la paix et la stabilité axée sur les UCSFRC, et a donc arrêté ce qui suit :
Consolider la démocratie, la paix et la stabilité en identifiant les moyens de prévenir et de réduire les tensions liées aux crises avant et après élection, ainsi que d'autres problèmes de gouvernance dans la sous-région ;
Mettre en place un cadre stratégique de coopération entre le système des Nations Unies et l’UFM qui identifiera des projets et programmes communs dans le domaine de la paix et de la sécurité ;
Renforcer les capacités des UCSFRC pour qu'elles fonctionnent à un niveau optimal en tant que mécanisme d'alerte précoce et de réponse et créer un cadre permettant aux États membres de s'approprier ces mécanismes ;
Elargir les partenariats aux niveaux multilatéral et régional afin de permettre aux États Membres de faire face aux menaces extérieures et autres crimes transfrontaliers ;
Créer une plateforme pour renforcer le plaidoyer sur les questions de droits de l'homme, les questions liées à l'autonomisation des femmes et des jeunes, ainsi que la consolidation de la paix, tout en mettant un accent particulier sur le renforcement des capacités du REFMAP.
Les participants ont exprimé leur satisfaction pour la convergence des points de vue sur toutes les questions et préoccupations soulevées et ont été particulièrement ravis de l'esprit de compréhension mutuelle et de cordialité qui a prévalu tout au long de leurs délibérations. Ils ont également réitéré la nécessité impérieuse de prendre toutes les mesures pour promouvoir la paix et la stabilité au niveau régional, prévenir et réduire les tensions avant et après les périodes électorales dans les États membres, renforcer la capacité des UCSFRC à faire face aux défis transfrontaliers et assurer le développement socio-économique et l'intégration régionale dans la sous-région.
Les participants ont exprimé leurs remerciements au gouvernement de la Sierra Leone, au Secrétariat de l’UFM et à UNOWAS pour la réunion bien organisée et les efforts déployés pour en faire un succès.

Normally when the children get thier report cards we go to Chuck E Cheese's as a reward for thier hard work. This semester we decided to change things up a bit and headed to Family Bowl Away in Butler for "Cyber Bowling". It was such an enjoyable time. The black lights made need for some creativity when it came to taking pictures. Indoor settings didn't quite work, night settings were even worse. I don't know if I ever found the right setting, but I did give it a ernest effort. This made choosing today's picture tough. I ended up going for this one. It shows everyone (some are teeny tiny in the back and blurry) but everyone is there. As is thier personalities..
Aubriaunna whom I commonly refer to as "Boo" is definately a poser. She wants attenion, and she knows just how to make "cutzie" work to her advantage.
Nathen, my "Buddy" is such a ball of energy. Always on the go, alway keeping me on my toes. Yet he is the most compassionate little guy ever. He was the one carring all the bowling balls (not just ours everyone elses' too) back to thier "homes".
Avery, my sweet "Angel" is finding new ways to discover and express herself with each day that passes. Not nearly as outgoing as the other two, but she has this "something" about her. An ambition to move forward, a willingness to push ahead.
Brian, finally a part of "my family" and I ever so happy about it. Sometimes tings take time to work... I am willing to give time :o)
Debbie, my mother whom I have always called "George". She has taken tremendous responciblity in taking care of Boo. I know that when the need arrives, she is there for the kids.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an and it has seven levels
Level Three:
There is a Bronze statue of the Buddha coated in gold. This is one of the most valuable items in the Pagoda. Every visitor must bow at the Buddha. On the walls, apart from the picture of the Buddha, there are calligraphies and poems mainly by famous scholars from Tang Dynasty.
The bubble or spirit level was invented in 1661 and was first used on telescopes and surveying instruments. The bubble level became a carpenter’s tool in the mid-19th century when they began to be produced in factories.
This beautiful example of a level is constructed of hardwood and brass. It was made by the H.M. Pool Company in Easton, Massachusetts. The company was originally started by brothers John and Horace Pool in 1828 but became the H.M. Pool Company in 1841 when Horace bought out John.
