Anthropology A-Level Conference
Friday, 22 March 2013, 10:00-14:30 at Brunel University
This day-long conference organised by Brunel's Department of Anthropology and the Humanities Department at Heston Community School, and supported by the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) revolved around a series
of workshops modeled on actual university lectures. These workshops drew
directly from the fieldwork experiences of Brunel Anthropologists and tied in with
core A-level themes:
1- Being Human: Unity and Diversity.
2- Becoming a person: identity and belonging.
3- Global and local: societies, environment, globalisation.
4- Practising Anthropology: methods and investigation.
Workshops addressed a wide variety of topics including:
•Disco in 'traditional' ritual in Papua New Guinea
•An anthropological perspective on AIDS in South Africa
•Language and emotion: how do we understand emotions across cultures?
•Being seen and unseen: visibility and invisibility in school
•Reading the body anthropologically
•Anthropological perspectives on female circumcision
•What does it mean to be hungry?
•Practising anthropology: ethnographic ‘methods and investigation’
Being a sharp border between Mediterranean and continental climates, Velebit has incredibly rich flora, resulting in 2274 plant species (3 times more than Britain has for example), and numerous climate zones in such a short distance.
Autumn on the mountain lasts almost two months, which is how long it takes for colors to descent from mountains tops to the coast.
That is well illustrated here above Velika Paklenica valley, for example. Trees are bare in higher elevations for quite some time now, while autumn is in full swing in the mid elevations and all the way down the valley it is still green.
Gray cloud cap is the result of south wind, here called Jugo, which brings lot of moisture from the Adriatic. Once it slams into the mountain it begins to climb and cool down, turning into thick stratus and cumulus clouds that swallow upper half of the mountain.
Now I do an urban level crossing. And this one is rather nice in the city of Lincoln complete with foot bridge.
A tram and train meet at the soon to be removed at-grade crossing in Glen Huntly (the station is named Glenhuntly). Setting up a meet like this took over an hour, but was well worth the wait.

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come

The rambling, weird, occasionally racist, often animal-centric graffiti of an anonymous woman in Kowloon, Hong Kong. She writes about dogs, cats and other pets, often about their mistreatment. She also often includes the words "Anglican" "Scotts" or "Scotland" and the number 1497 in what she writes.
Key leveling block is used to block #1 and #88 keys to proper height. Then a straight edge is used to level the others.

Sort of level top tube. Scratch that - it's sloping. Standover clearance is a must for this gravel grinder. www.44bikes.com ( www.44bikes.com )
Another view of the Library of Birmingham from the BCN Main Line Canal (near Turnover Bridge No 2).
This time I was on my way to the library to head inside for the first time.
I went between 4 and 5pm. But only got a high as Level 4 (a queue for a lift to upper levels). Before I heard an announcement that it would be closing at 5.
But did have time to go down to the Lower Ground Level.
This photo shows the levels I still need to go up to (7 to 9).
66625 passes Penketh Hall foot crossing on 13th January 2014.
I’d cycled down to the freight only Arpley - Ditton line to try and photograph 60010 which was on the 1130 Fiddlers Ferry - Liverpool Bulk Terminal. Unfortunately it was behind the service in the photo, Freightliner Heavy Haul's 4S42 0930 Fiddler's Ferry - Hunterston which was two hours late. I left after 90 minutes with still no sign of the 60, which eventually departed the power station two hours late at 1330hrs.
The foot crossing is about a mile on the Warrington side of Fiddlers Ferry signalbox and the signal in the shot is Fiddlers Ferry's down distant.
