The museum area of the Little Franciscans of Mary highlights the origin, history and evolution of the Congregation. The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), administered by the Smithsonian Institute, was established in December 2003 and opened its permanent home in September 2016. The 350,000-square-foot, 10-story (five above and five below ground) was built to the postmodern design of Phil Freelon's Freelon Group, Sir David Adjaye's Adjaye Associates and Davis Brody Bond. The above ground floors feature an inverted step pyramid surrounded by a bronze architectural scrim, which reflects a crown used in Yoruba culture. With more than 40,000 objects in its collection, although only about 3,500 items are on display, the NMAAHC is the world's largest museum dedicated to African-American history and culture.
The Smithsonian Institution, an educational and research institute and associated museum complex, administered and funded by the government of the United States and by funds from its endowment, contributions, and profits from its shops and its magazines, was established in 1846. Although concentrated in Washington DC, its collection of over 136 million items is spread through 19 museums, a zoo, and nine research centers from New York to Panama.

while walking around by the tide pools, i got a crazy idea: "why not lay down in front of where the waves break to get a photo?"

Everytime I upload pictures to Flickr, I come to work where I have a way better monitor and I see imperfections in the scan that annoy the hell out of me. Being a perfectionist is torture.
Sorry... I cropped the photo 'coz there was this stupid man beside me who always bumps his elbow to my camera and sometimes my head. So I bumped back and looked at him fiercely... He's about twice my age but we went away...
Anyways, here's a very amazing performance level from the Winter Festival.
The High Level Bridge is a road and railway bridge spanning the River Tyne between Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead in North East England. It is considered the most notable historical engineering work in the city.[1] It was built by the Hawks family[2] from 5050 tons of iron. George Hawks, Mayor of Gateshead, drove in the last key of the structure on 7 June 1849[3] and the bridge was opened by Queen Victoria later that year. (Wikipedia)

I've had an old 28mm Pentax K mount lens in my camera bag for some time now. I haven't used it or the 50mm manual as much as I had wanted. So the 28mm and 50mm are getting a new run.
I went for a walk in unfamiliar territory this morning and found this rather unique sight, an old galvanized shed with railway tracks running up to and into the shed??? The tracks lead across the small road and gently sloped into a lake. I love it when you find something that leaves you wondering! I also like how my old 28mm manual captured the scene!

Taken at the upper level of Union Station. This floor hosts a few restaurants, shops and a coffee shop. Also, the entrance to the parking garage is located on this floor. I am fascinated by the patterns found on this ceiling. I think it is such a unique design.

It was a lovely sunny day, but at times there was an icy wind.
The cableway on level 2 between the silo and the launch control capsule in a Titan II missile silo. The view is towards the control center.
The Titan Missile Museum is located in a decommissioned Titan II missile complex just south of Tucson, Arizona. At over 100 feet tall, the Titan II was the largest ICBM ever deployed by the United States. We got the opportunity to take a comprehensive tour of the facility covering all eight levels of the underground silo.
