In partnership with Concordia Language Villages, we took part in a day dedicated to the many languages of Mia. We engaged in some wordplay with artists and educators from around the globe, sang songs in a new language, and played games that expanded our vocab.

VIRTLANTIS is a free resource and open community of practice for language learners and teachers in the virtual world of Second Life®. We offer free informal language learning activities for a growing number of languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, etc. All of our activities are offered free of charge by volunteer language teachers and/or native speakers.
Everyone is welcome to offer a language activity at VIRTLANTIS. We provide free resources and ongoing support. We also collaborate with and promote other language communities in Second Life.
In addition to our main island and the various social meeting points at Knowingly, we have additional locations which can be used when needed.

Kevin Hirschi, the English Language Fellow in Tbilisi, Georgia, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the 9th International Research Conference on American Studies at International Black Sea University. Fellow Kevin Hirschi presented on his
corpus linguistics study on negative language in newspaper editorials on Donald Trump, introducing the audience to the relevance of linguistic findings in the interdisciplinary sphere of American Studies.

UW-Madison’s Language Institute hosted World Languages Day on November 14, 2013 at Union South. This exciting, college-for-a-day experience introduces more than 600 Wisconsin high school students and their teachers to many of the world languages and cultural topics offered at UW-Madison. The event, which features faculty, students and staff, aims to inspire students to pursue a second or third language regardless of their educational and career goals.

The great Manx speaker and language activist, Charles Craine, who was of great importance to the continuation and revival of Manx Gaelic in the second half of the twentieth century.
