Paramhansa Yogananda, born in 1893, was the first yoga master of India to take up permanent residence in the West.
Yogananda arrived in America in 1920, and proceeded to travel throughout the United States on what he called his “spiritual campaigns.”
Hundreds of thousands filled the largest halls in major American cities to see the yoga master from India. Yogananda continued to lecture and write up to his passing in 1952.
Yogananda’s initial impact on the western culture was truly impressive. But his lasting spiritual legacy has been even greater. His Autobiography of a Yogi, first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Translated into more than a dozen languages, it remains a best-selling spiritual classic to this day.
Before embarking on his mission to the West, he received this admonition from his teacher, Swami Sri Yukteswar:
The West is high in material attainments, but lacking in spiritual understanding. It is God’s will that you play a role in teaching mankind the value of balancing the material with an inner, spiritual life.

UW-Madison’s Language Institute hosted World Languages Day on November 14, 2013 at Union South. This exciting, college-for-a-day experience introduces more than 600 Wisconsin high school students and their teachers to many of the world languages and cultural topics offered at UW-Madison. The event, which features faculty, students and staff, aims to inspire students to pursue a second or third language regardless of their educational and career goals.

The great Manx speaker and language activist, Charles Craine, who was of great importance to the continuation and revival of Manx Gaelic in the second half of the twentieth century.

DRC English Language Fellow Yeba Robinson carried out a workshop on using supplementary materials, when teaching English. Attracting 235 high school teachers, six inspectors of English inspectors and one headmaster (principal), the two-day, four-hour sessions took place at Institut de la Gombe and College St. Michel consecutively. In this resource-scarce country, the educators were also trained in converting into material resources objects in their own classroom environments.

Today we had the World Wide Photo Walk at the Carl Sandburg Home. What fun it was! This is Brandon. Brandon was nice enough to share his hay with the goat :) I love looking at their eyes. It's like, "We're gonna share this hay but I'm just not able to look you in the eye while we do it." Like they are both feeling guilty about it! Can you see that the goat's eye are rectangular? So cool. I never knew that about them. According to my research, the horizontal pupils allow them better night vision. Amazing what you learn on a photo walk. Thanks, Brandon for an awesome photo op - this is definitely my favorite from the night!!

I was attracted by Elena from the first moment. She looked so beautiful and natural in the pictures and her profile on Anastasiadate.com was not of a super woman, but of a good and nice woman who I could consider as my life partner in the future. As it appeared through correspondence, I did the right choice, as her letters proved that she was sincere, honest and serious in her intentions to develop a long-lasting relationship with me. My first trip by car through all Ukraine was very long and risky but I did not change my mind to see her despite all the difficulties. Within a short period of time we have already met 4 times in her country as I believe that to develop feelings you should meet as often as possible. Each of the meetings was a next step in our relations. We have much fun when we are together and we can understand each other despite the language barrier. It proves one more time that language of love is universal! I am waiting for her arrival to my country to celebrate Christmas with my family. I am very happy that I have found a woman of my dreams with the help of Anastasiadate.com.
Culminating the college's Jan. 17, 2011 observances of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, students used music, dance, poetry and prose to survey the vast landscape of the African Diaspora, and their own diverse backgrounds, in an evening performance in Schaeffer Theatre. Titled Sankofa, a term from Ghana's Akan language referring to the idea of going back for what you have forgotten, the show emphasized the importance of remembering the past in order to appreciate the present and improve the future. For many years Tuttle has also been a collector and historian of textiles from around the world. He is fascinated by the process of weaving, as warp and weft combine threads into a pattern; and by the differing techniques and technologies which ensure that every culture has its own unique approach to making textiles. He has also considered the links between textiles and language, such as the ways in which grammar weaves together sound and meaning.
Drawing upon these concerns, I Don't Know . The Weave of Textile Language is a project composed of three parts; a survey of his work at the Whitechapel Gallery, which focuses on his use of fabric and textiles from 1967 to 2014; a book conceived in close collaboration with the artist, and a specially commissioned sculpture in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.
This is the largest sculpture that Tuttle has ever made, though the artist stresses that his concern is with scale rather than size. Like all of his work, it represents a determined engagement with the space that it occupies. The hanging structure incorporates three fabrics manufactured for the project by textile mills in Surat, India, in each case combining man-made and natural fibres to achieve the colour and textures specified by the artist.

A5 drawing. Drawing inspired by pictures I've taken of marks in sand. They made me think of ancient languages and forgotten tokens. I find it exciting to think that the waves of the sea has its own language.
In most of my language classes, English was Not Allowed. You could get a 0 for each class where you used any English at all, no exceptions. So what was the first section of the dictionary I'd read before starting any language class? I also think about it a lot. Not pictured: Latin (Latin dictionaries are a long story)
