UW-Madison’s Language Institute hosted World Languages Day on November 14, 2013 at Union South. This exciting, college-for-a-day experience introduces more than 600 Wisconsin high school students and their teachers to many of the world languages and cultural topics offered at UW-Madison. The event, which features faculty, students and staff, aims to inspire students to pursue a second or third language regardless of their educational and career goals.

A5 drawing. Drawing inspired by pictures I've taken of marks in sand. They made me think of ancient languages and forgotten tokens. I find it exciting to think that the waves of the sea has its own language.

Just an interesting sign I saw in the Muslim restaurant on campus. Can't tell if it's Arabic or Uyghur or what, but it's interesting that whatever language(s) are there, both Arabic and Latin script are used.

Bloomsburg University’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program recently promoted literacy with Danville Head Start students at the Aphasia Center in Danville, using resources from the BU Toy Library for a joint therapy session with Aphasia patients.

English Language Fellow Hannah Murphy along with Tesfaye Habtemariam and Mulualem Eshete, faculty members from the Department of English Language and Literature at Arba Minch University, delivered training on how to use English in the class rooms for #ArbaMinch University instructors. The goal of the workshop was to provide instructors with an opportunity to discuss the role of English in their classrooms and think critically about their own use of English in their classrooms.

For many years Tuttle has also been a collector and historian of textiles from around the world. He is fascinated by the process of weaving, as warp and weft combine threads into a pattern; and by the differing techniques and technologies which ensure that every culture has its own unique approach to making textiles. He has also considered the links between textiles and language, such as the ways in which grammar weaves together sound and meaning.
Drawing upon these concerns, I Don't Know . The Weave of Textile Language is a project composed of three parts; a survey of his work at the Whitechapel Gallery, which focuses on his use of fabric and textiles from 1967 to 2014; a book conceived in close collaboration with the artist, and a specially commissioned sculpture in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.
This is the largest sculpture that Tuttle has ever made, though the artist stresses that his concern is with scale rather than size. Like all of his work, it represents a determined engagement with the space that it occupies. The hanging structure incorporates three fabrics manufactured for the project by textile mills in Surat, India, in each case combining man-made and natural fibres to achieve the colour and textures specified by the artist.
I have an odd mind but I can't resist. I think the writer really meant 'Do not spend a cent or penny' when advocating a Black Out day for July 7th. I am worried that "Do not spend a scent" might indicate a more troubling issue, the loss of taste and smell that comes with a covidious infection.
