This image was taken at Nudgee Beach in Queensland Australia at sunrise
The word Nudgee comes from the language of the Indigenous Australians who occupied this land for many thousands of years before European "setttlement" (read invasion).
Prior to European occupation (read invasion), this and every part of the land we now call Australia was occupied by what we now call Aboriginal people (See profile for an overview of this history).
As global warming and the insidious senseless ramparts of the capitalist modernist project begins to crumble because it has reached the limitations of a global capacity to enable me to gain at your expense, to eat while you starve, to buy a second ‘investment’ home whilst you live on the streets, to pay a doctor to inject botox into my face whilst you die of malnutrition- and the rising tide (the unfettered market) that was supposed to raise all ships (your standard of living as well as mine) begins to buckle and gasp for air, I wonder what the Indigenous people think of what we have done their land, to their lifestyle, to their future and the environment they cared for and preserved for 40,000+ years before ‘civilised’ people came along and ‘settled’ in this country.
INDIGENOUS HISTORY
The area was called Nar-dha, nar (meaning black ducks) and dha (meaning earth ground), was a significant meeting place for people from various clans from as far away as the Richmond River in the south and the Burnett in the north. It was an important pathway.
At certain times of the year, initiation ceremonies, law making, corroborees (yawahrr) - a way of sharing the news - and exchange of goods took place at Nar-dha.
The waterholes provided animal foods - fish, turtles (binkin), yabbies (yarring) and water fowls/ducks - and plants like bungwall fern for food and bark for shelters. Stones from the waterholes were suitable for making tools such as knives, spearheads and scrapers.
Of course the experiences of Indigenous – European interactions were not homogenous nor were the attitudes each Indigenous group took towards European ‘settlers’ and visa versa. The overall story was not good for Indigenous people, but simplistic accounts of adversarial conflict and a will to wipe out the Indigenous community are simply false. I recommend reading The Australian People (edited by James Jupp). This account gives a reasonably balanced view from a historians perspective. See the link below to order this book.

Taite doesnt sign much... he talks a lot for his age .. so we didnt teach him much. We did teach him "all done" though. This way when he goes potty or hes done eat.. or swinging, etc.. he can tell us. Its a very cute sign and he makes this "ah de, ah de" noises when he signs it.
Taha's English is limited, and I couldn't speak a lick of the languages that he did know well, but he's hilarious regardless. As you can see by all the laugh-lines.
A hike to Narsok with M.Ali and Taha, the best guides you could ask for! Also, hiking in a full-length shalwar kameez, not as difficult as you'd imagine, though a little bit tricky when it comes to the rock-climbing.

Unicode represents the Tower ob Babel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel In computing, Unicode is an industry standard allowing computers to consistently represent and manipulate text expressed in most of the world's writing systems. Developed in tandem with the Universal Character Set standard and published in book form as The Unicode Standard, Unicode consists of a repertoire of more than 100,000 characters, a set of code charts for visual reference, an encoding methodology and set of standard character encodings, an enumeration of character properties such as upper and lower case, a set of reference data computer files, and a number of related items, such as character properties, rules for normalization, decomposition, collation, rendering and bidirectional display order (for the correct display of text containing both right-to-left scripts, such as Arabic or Hebrew, and left-to-right scripts). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UniCode

Mickey Smith explores themes of history, knowledge and place with large-scale photographs of bound volumes of periodicals—giving viewers an entirely new way of looking at a familiar world. Her quest is to document this information in its concrete visual form before it disappears completely into cyberspace. Smith works in series, which she appropriately calls Volume, creating single images, diptychs, triptychs and multi panel installations. For New Language, Smith has expanded her reach with a work entitled Collocation No. 4 (Today), a mural-scaled work comprising 50 images of gray and yellow journals entitled Today and Tomorrow, installed, unframed, in a grid format.

Anything becomes easier to learn when it begins to sound interesting. So, if you are planning on learning one of the most popular languages in the world, checking some cool facts about it can help. Here are some Russian language facts worth reading:
1.Number of Words:
Just a century ago, the number of words in this vernacular was between 50,000 to 100,000, Although the number has doubled in the 21st century, it is still not a huge figure as compared to other vernaculars. This means that plenty of them have more than one meaning. The speakers of this tongue prefer to use as little phrases as they can. They only use a few of the 200,000 words that show up in the Russian dictionaries of today.
2.Last Names:
Ever wondered why every Russian’s last name sounds the same? Well, that’s because the last names depending on gender. So, if a boy is being named, his last name will be formed by combining his father’s name with ‘ovich.’ In case it is a daughter who is about to get a new name, it will be formed by combining her father’s name with ‘ovna.’ So, even if the first name in a story does not tell you anything about the gender of a character, the last name will give it away.
3.Importance in Space Travel:
If you want to become an astronaut and explore the outer space, you will have to learn Russian. Otherwise, all of your knowledge about astrophysics won’t be able to get you to space. The reason behind this regulation is Russia’s presence in the International Space Station.
4.English Words:
There is good news for English speakers who wish to learn this tongue. If you read ten Russian words, one of them will be similar to an English term. This is why a native English speaker may have a bit of an advantage when learning this language.
5.Words with A:
There is an unwritten rule in the Russian language against words that start with A. Even native speakers might have difficulty recalling a word that begins with the letter A. And if you are studying a dictionary and come across a word that starts with this letter, it means that was adopted from another vernacular. There is a high chance that it will be an English word because of the huge influence of the language on the world.
6.Syllables:
Not only do the Russians speak a few words, but they also prefer fewer syllables. Most of the words in the language have only word syllables. This is quite a unique factor for the speakers of the English language. However, almost all of the adjectives in Russian have more than one syllable.
