"tell me in spanish and i'll tell you in english" this is jordan and jaqualine.

i) Editorial Note, by Ingrid Klassen & Daphne Marlatt (with a thankyou to bpNichol)

i was walking down the street and saw a playing card turned face down.

i nudged it with my foot, hoping to flip it over

failing, i bent down and flipped it over

jack of spades

i stood, contemplating the possible meaning of finding that particular card

as i walked away i noticed a lady staring at me like i was crazy or homeless or at

least trying to figure out what the hell i was doing

i thought "what, you don't ever flip over playing cards that are face down on the sidewalk? how sad ." and "i wish she was a curious woman"

Kunkurra (The Spiralling Wind) 2025 ochre and PVA fixative on stringybark (Eucalyptus tetrodonta)

Kunkurra, the spiralling wind, is associated with several sites in the Kardbam clan estate. This painting can be interpreted as a depiction of the kinds of mini-cyclones common during the wet season in Arnhem Land, where the artist lives. Kunkurra also relates specifically to a site called Bilwoyinj, near Mankorlod.

At this site, two of the most important Kuninjku Creation Beings, a father and son known as na-korrkko, are believed to have hunted and eaten a goanna. They left some of the goanna fat behind at the site, which turned into the rock that still stands there today. The name of the site, Bilwoyinj, also refers to the fat of the goanna. Each year I volunteer at the annual Reading Festival held at the Event Center in the River District in downtown Fort Myers. It's sponsored by the Lee County Library System, and I demonstrate the library's electronic resources, including language instruction, via the library's website. It's a huge event, attracting over 20,000 peeps. Well-known authors give readings and sign books.

Under the patronage of his Excellency the director general of Vocational Training Corporation (VTC), the Modern Language Center held a graduation ceremony for the fourth batch of their employees. Present at the ceremony was (VTC) Deputy Director Eng. Hani Khleifat, who congratulated graduates and handed out their certificates.

'Slap' in Slovenian means waterfall (onomatopoeically enough). This amused me every single time.

UW-Madison’s Language Institute hosted World Languages Day on November 7, at Union South. This exciting, college-for-a-day experience introduces more than 600 Wisconsin high school students and their teachers to many of the world languages and cultural topics offered at UW-Madison. The event aims to inspire students to pursue a second or third language regardless of their educational and career goals.

Hundreds of artful workers in marble and granite spent hundreds of years decorating Santiago de Compostela.

I'm guessing that this amused-irritated young matron somehow amused and irritated one artful worker. And now she looks down on the pilgrim-filled plaza forever.

"OK, what are you looking at?" Isn't that what she's saying? I'm sure she spoke Galician but her look speaks volumes in some truly universal language.

UNICODE 5.1.0 meets Or-Omcode∞.1.0

Unicode represents the Tower ob Babel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel In computing, Unicode is an industry standard allowing computers to consistently represent and manipulate text expressed in most of the world's writing systems. Developed in tandem with the Universal Character Set standard and published in book form as The Unicode Standard, Unicode consists of a repertoire of more than 100,000 characters, a set of code charts for visual reference, an encoding methodology and set of standard character encodings, an enumeration of character properties such as upper and lower case, a set of reference data computer files, and a number of related items, such as character properties, rules for normalization, decomposition, collation, rendering and bidirectional display order (for the correct display of text containing both right-to-left scripts, such as Arabic or Hebrew, and left-to-right scripts). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UniCode
