A street performer dressed in a dog suit gets some attention from a kid. This is in the busy Dotonburi district in Osaka, Japan. I am actually on the Ebisubashi Bridg, below Dotonbori's famous Glico running man glow sign, which you will see soon after this. (see subsequent pictures later in this album). The Ebisubashi Bridge is the focal point of Dotonbori. It is a popular meeting spot, an essential photo stop for tourists, and the site of wild celebrations when local sports teams are victorious. These projects use either single color or multi color programmable lighting to create the appropriate effect for the project. In some cases, the lighting is ambient room lighting.
I think this may be Chinese rather than Kanji, but the "BBQ" and the meat skewer works for Westerners! There are many restaurants in Osaka where you can cook meat at counter barbeques, sliced by a chef to order. The speciality is Kobe beef. Namba, Osaka.

This was a piece for SEMA in Las Vegas.

The fabulous theatre show over, iPhone retrieved from the locker and it's now time to head home. This is the Elephant Theatre in the - Phuket FantaSea where the main show Fantasy of a Kingdom is held. I have just been watching the show with my mouth wide open (so to speak!) - it was a cultural extravaganza of extreme proportions with the extensive use of sound and light effects, lighting, garish costumes, elaborate sets (all changed within seconds), animals, music, fire, sound and pyrotechnics (yes indoors). You can’t say you have been to Phuket unless you have seen the Fantasea show. Photography of the show itself is sadly strictly prohibited due to the special effects and lighting and the use of live animals, so they make you check in any form of recording equipment before you enter the auditorium- and that included cellphones. LED signs come in different varieties that can help boost your business. But before even thinking of purchasing a programmable message board or a scrolling led sign, you have to determine how much are you willing to invest and what will really suit your business requirement.
Enter through that mouth for retail therapy at premium prices. Of course, there is also a games arcade in the piazza outside the Phuket FantaSea theatre, so looking at the video screens inside, this could well be it. I did not enter. Everything about the Phuket FantaSea show is all about the razzmatazz, glitz, glamour and premium priced upmarket retail. The main show, called Fantasy of a Kingdom is a stupendous show of light, costumes, colour, special effects and music complete with the use of pyrotechnics (yes, inside), laser lights and live animals- at one stage you even have six large elephants on stage. Photography inside the venue is strictly prohibited and you are obliged to check in every form of recording equipment- cellphones included- before you enter. (Phuket, Thailand, Oct/ Nov. 2019)

More neon on the entrance piazza to the Phuket FantaSea. With so much neon at the entrance to the show venue, you can well imagine the degree of giltz, glamour and razzmatazz inside! The actual theatrical show as well matches up to this glitz and glamour and is nothing short of superlative- and I generally never term anything as superlative- sadly photography inside the auditorium is strictly prohibited and you are also made to check in your cellphone when you enter the theatre. There are lots of things to do and see before the show. You can take a walk around the large grounds of Phuket FantaSea Cultural Theme Park and watch live performances and several outdoor shows. Visitors can also watch handicraft demonstrations, do some souvenir shopping, have a drink at the bar or coffee shop or try some Thai desserts and sweets at the desserts parlor. Most of the shopping- barring the handful of gondolas sprinkled around the venue- are upmarket premium boutiques, so the prices are pretty high. You can get some nice photos of the colour and razzle dazzle by night though. (Phuket, Thailand, Oct/ Nov. 2019)
I have just finished watching the totally jaw dropping Fantasy of a Kingdom show at the Phuket FantaSea in Phuket, Thailand. Indeed, some of the acts and sets blew my socks off! Sadly photography inside the venue is strictly prohibited and they make you check in any form of recording device you might have, including your cellphoe. Show over, everyone is headed home, out to catch their mini bus (yes, hotel pick up and drop off are included). On the way to the exit, I could not help taking a picture of these two gondolas selling trinkets and still hoping for a sale. I liked the way they turned out - lighting-wise, that is. Another look at the Sai Kor Night Square at the end of Patong beach in Phuket, Thailand. I took this picture out of the car window as we are driving to the Phuket FantaSea- a stupendous Las Vegas styleshow about Thai arts and culture, complete with sound effects, lighting and even pyrotechnics and animals on stage. We will get there in a moment. But for now, just see this picture of the indoor night market, The photo may be a little dark as it is shot through the dark windows of the van- almost all tourist vehicles in Phuket have very dark windows like dark sunglasses. I could not find any information about this Sai Kor Night Square on the web, and looking at how empty it is, it is apparently not one of the more popular shopping venues in Phuket as well. The next few pictures are scenes from inside and outside several of the facilities on the piazza outside the main theatre for the Fantasy of a Kingdom show in the Phuket FantaSea in Phuket, Thailand. This is the main theatre for the show. Don't you love the sparkling of the theatre building! (see video immediately after this- my Facebook viewers will find this video in a separate Videos folder under my profile). The “Fantasy of a Kingdom” show is performed in the Palace of the Elephants, a large theater built in ancient Khmer style. The theatre features the largest stage in Thailand. The tiered seating ensures good views of the stage from every seat. The theatre is equipped with a professional sound and light system and modern technology to create special effects. More notes about the Fantasy of a Kingdom show appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). Sadly, photography inside the theatre is strictly prohibited and this rule is very strictly enforced. And as though the sheer bedlam of the Dotonbori food street was not enough, I spied a covered side street just off Dotonbori, of which this is a head on view- from a distance. This is actually the Shin sai bashi-suji shop complex. So much neon around the side street! But the crowd inside it is just the same. Japan has these penchant for covered shopping streets- I spotted several of them in Tokyo, Kyoto, here in Osaka and also saw them later on in Hiroshima and Nara.
