365532 leads 3P17 07.36 King's Cross - Peterborough empty stock near Great Paxton (north of St. Neots).
Following the introduction of class 387 and 700 units on the Great Northern route, which have significantly harder seats than the 317s and 365s they replaced, local enthusiasts have referred to the class 365 "Networkers" (which operate on the Peterborough line in the peaks, plus at weekends when Peterborough trains don't run through the Thameslink "core") as "comfy units" - while ScotRail called them "Happy Trains" as a result of the appearance of the cab air conditioning equipment on the front.

The little penguin was picked up at the seventh heaven street fair in park slope on sunday. The little notebook and pencils and leads were purchased at Books Kinokuniya on my way home from the office. I think the stars aligned properly for me this afternoon as I was asking about some people 6,5mm "drylighter" leads and looking for a cheaper source. the holder was on sale for 12.50! i like .3mm pencils and use as light as a lead as I can find to write marginalia in books i own. (though i've been known to respond to something someone else has written in another book, terrible habit I know)
Sam Gudu leads three breeding and genomics GCP-supported initiatives at Moi University and the University of Eldoret, some of which incorporate supervision of postgraduate students. The projects are (1) optimised phosphorus uptake in maize (2)maize resilient to aluminium toxicity and (3) sorghum that withstands aluminium-toxic soils. This work has taken him to, among other places, EMBRAPA (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) to visit partners there also engaged in this project, specifically the lab run by Claudia Guimarães. We shall next meet some of Sam’s young charges and mentees.

We were are so very grateful for this incredible honor which we are receiving on behalf of all our incredible volunteers. The generous donation we received from Dunkin Donuts will be used to help pay for our cleanups in 2015. As an organization staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely through donations every penny counts and every penny we receives goes right back into our efforts to create a healthier and cleaning environment and community for everyone!
The letter below was from Dunkin Donuts to us:
Congratulations on behalf of Dunkin' Donuts Greater Baltimore!
You have been selected as one of the recipients of the 2014 Dunkin’ Donuts Greater Baltimore Region Community Hero Award! Dunkin' Donuts searched the Baltimore area for local community heroes, and we received some amazing nominations. From August 18th – October 17th, our guests were encouraged to visit www.dunkinheroes.com to nominate an individual from our area that goes above and beyond to keep our community running every day. We received a nomination on your behalf from someone in your Community and you were selected based on this tribute.
As a part of this recognition, you will receive a donation and a coupon booklet which offers a free Dunkin’ Donuts Medium Hot Coffee and Donut every week for a year! The Dunkin’ Donuts Greater Baltimore Region Community Hero Award is truly a celebration of those who to impact, improve and inspire our local community. We thank you for all you do to serve our region and hope you will accept this award and join us on December 11th 2014!

37409 Lord Hinton leads 2C42 17.37 Carlisle - Barrow-in-Furness around Lowca Point, just north of Parton. 37218 is on the rear. (Best viewed full screen.)
This train was running significantly late, and a group of us were set up to do a shot of it after calling at Parton. It was the usual story: we were waiting with a clear blue sky above us, but a bank of cloud was slowly approaching from the west. The train finally appeared as the sun began to play hide and seek with the leading edge of the cloud, and by the time it departed from its station stop the sun had well and truly disappeared from view.
This was taken from the same spot (stood next to the line on the other side of the bay), but with a longer lens, and luckily the train stayed in a lit area as it came round the corner. The camera was set to autobracket five frames (at half stop intervals), and I shot the train in two spots; this was the darkest of those in the first spot. It's had a lot of simple processing as the original was very flat (hence overlooking it for so long, but I never delete images!): much increased clarity, slightly increased contrast, lightened highlights, slight increase in colour temperature, and slight increase in colour saturation. The train was originally in the centre of the frame and there was a lot of hillside in shade on the right, so I cropped the image - but I like both, so have uploaded both!
