GP40 leads a manifest at Park Junction in 1987. The squiggly track to the left is what Amtrak negotiated each day. They changed the track but even so, now Amtrak mostly comes down the Midway sub.

The Killdeer’s broken-wing act leads predators away from a nest, but doesn’t keep cows or horses from stepping on eggs. To guard against large hoofed animals, the Killdeer uses a quite different display, fluffing itself up, displaying its tail over its head, and running at the beast to attempt to make it change its path.
A well-known denizen of dry habitats, the Killdeer is actually a proficient swimmer. Adults swim well in swift-flowing water, and chicks can swim across small streams.
The male and female of a mated pair pick out a nesting site through a ritual known as a scrape ceremony. The male lowers his breast to the ground and scrapes a shallow depression with his feet. The female then approaches, head lowered, and takes his place. The male then stands with body tilted slightly forward, tail raised and spread, calling rapidly. Mating often follows.
A winding path leads the eye toward a weathered stone crossing—Lincove Bridge—quietly nestled in the folds of Eskdale, Cumbria. The land breathes in deep greens, rising in soft, sweeping slopes that seem to cradle the sky. Low clouds drift heavily above, their muted greys dissolving into the hills as if the earth and sky are in quiet conversation.
The bridge itself feels timeless, its stones worn smooth by countless crossings, a humble link between past and present. Beside it, a restless stream threads through rock and grass, its movement the only sound in an otherwise hushed world. Scattered ruins linger nearby, whispering of lives once lived in this remote stillness.
It’s a place where solitude feels sacred—where every step along the path is less about reaching a destination and more about dissolving into the landscape itself.

Charger #310 leads the Empire Builder down Short Line Hill.
They took about 2 hours to get from St Cloud to MSP (while I stood for almost an hour on the cold and windy bridge).I can only assume they set out an engine at Midway. A bit frustrating since I usually time this pretty well.
CREX ES44AC #1314 leads NS roadrailer train #251 through the crossovers at 'Tillman' as they enter the Industry Yard in East Point, GA.
While Venus Line leads to the highland plateau of Utsukuchigahara, there is another road called Azalea Line that branches off from Venus Line to Matsumoto city. It is a refurbished logging road and named after the flowers that blooms in early summer along the road.
Karamatsu or Japanese larch trees, which were almost withered in Kirigamine, were at their best of colouring when I passed by. The mountain is part of Utsukushigahara volcano.
An ES44AH leads the CSX Southbound Coal Train, as it powers up the grade at Emerson, GA passing the updated signals at North Emerson on the CSX W&A Subdivision.
Colas Rail Freight 'Wylam Dilly' leads the 6C60 1007 Whitemoor Yard L.D.C Gbrf to Ripple Lane Signal 807 engineers through Waterbeach, with classmate 66850 'David Maidment OBE' at the rear.

CSXT 5327 leads UP train ZDUNP west thru Pacific, MO. I pulled up to the crossing with about 10 seconds to throw the car in park and get out and get the shot. I didn't expect to have to cut it that close, but it happens. The train is seen here flying down main track 2 of the Jeff City Sub, coming into downtown Pacific.
Union Pacific's 'Chicago & Northwestern' heritage SD70ACe leads a Los Angeles, CA - Atlanta, GA stack train through Winston, GA after a quick meet with Amtrak #19.
MEC 371 leads POED, after the previous crew sat at Athol Station for almost three hours waiting on a "live recrew". Finally the crew showed up and with the high hood in lead position, the train throttled up on Track 1 and headed west towards East Deerfield. At one time this was a much busier yard than just a parking lot for MOW equipment. Interesting to see six units on this train, the entire consist was; MEC 371, MEC 515, MEC 379, MEC 617, MEC 601, and LTEX 6528.
Picturesque Church Lane leads up to the Hellfire Caves just a short walk away and the Dashwood Mausoleum and church which crown the top of the hill behind me.
Beyond the rooftops of this very pretty National Trust owned village can be seen the trees of the romantic 18th century landscaped gardens that surround West Wycombe Park - the stunning home of the forever infamous Dashwoods.
The light after the rainstorm saturating the autumn colours.
DC Rail Freight 60046 'William Wilberforce' leads the 6Z18 0833 Middleton Towers to Ravenhead Sdgs loaded sand train past Black Horse Drove.
43055 leads the Midland Pullman set over Whalley Arches with the 07.02 Crewe – Carlisle LSL test run on Tues 11th May 2021.
Note: the light dipped a little just as the train was passing over the viaduct, and the shot has been corrected in PS by a friend who is far more skilled in that department than me.
Lots of blue in this image as UP 1982 leads loaded ethanol train UECRTG (Fairfax, IA- Galveston, TX) through downtown Houston, turning off the West Belt Sub and onto the Galveston Sub at South GH&H Jct. A crisp blue sky and some light blue skyscrapers went nicely with 1982's light blue front.

EJE 656 leads CN L504 on former GM&O trackage south across the UP Pickneyville Sub at Percy, IL. This is a first for me shooting here, and this is a verty rare occurrence from what I understand. I had been in Effingham during the morning and drove back down to here to chase this. Well worth the extra driving.
BNSF 7887 leads a westbound vehicle train through Lake Park, MN along the renowned Staples Sub.
This particular day, 17 Apr 07, was an epic day, to say the least. It was one of those rare days where everything just kind of comes together and you're left years later wishing you could have another day as fulfilling as this one. Interestingly, at the time, this train was viewed as kind of an, "Eh, I'm here; I might as well shoot it" type of shot. Today, though, catching something like this would be coveted.
Anyway, here are the shots I've previously uploaded to Flickr from this day, all of which have EMDs leading, BTW:

What a perfect time capsule for what northern plains railroading was like back then! Anyone else miss it?
DRS Class 88/0 No.88009 Diana leads 68007 Valiant past the water tower at Dungeness on the 7th of July 2021, working the 16:29 6M95 Nuclear Flasks from Dungeness Power Station to Crewe Coal Sidings. As far as I’m aware, this is the first time a Class 88 has been on a revenue earning working down into Kent?
Taken with the aid of a pole.
The Vanishing point is a history of linear perspective. And, as such, is the practice of creating the illusion of three-dimensional depth on a two-dimensional surface. Sometimes, the intersection is off the page and leads to a different looking image. Here, the vanishing point aligns with the horizon, as it must, but just to the right of the frame. This technique was used to further emphasize the conditions of the area.
Once again in the Nicola Valley, it is late afternoon, and in the summer heat. The tops of dry grasses are highlighted, and form a line leading toward the horizon. Shadows play their part as the sun is only peaking over the hills, just outside the frame. The area is exceptionally dry and experiencing a drought. Strangely enough, last year this area was flooded and only the hills were visible.
56034 'Castell Ogwr Ogmore Castle' leads 7o83, the 1209 Whatley Quarry to Fareham stone train past Norton Bavant, south of Warminster on 18th April 1989.
After the arrival of Foster Yeoman's class 59s in 1986, Mendip stone traffic was hauled by both the new private sector GM interlopers and by British Rail traction. Class 56s continued to operate lost such trains until the arrival of the ARC/Hanson-owned class 59/1s in November 1990.
My image of the same train in 1992 ( flic.kr/p/2hHwWPn ) was taken from the bridge in the distance; Scratchbury Hill from where I took the image flic.kr/p/2hGGJxX rises steeply behind the trees on the right.
In 2019 while stone trains continue to run from Whatley Quarry to Fareham, they pass through the Wylye valley before 6am. This view is somewhat compromised by mature trees along the railway's fence boundary on the left.
BNSF 7361 leads a southbound blade train into Larkspur, CO.
What started out as a "I just wanna get out and take a drive" turned into a full-blown train chasing afternoon. And even though all I caught were GEs, it was still (slightly) better than staying in and adding CO2 to the inside of my house...
NS 8103 leads 21N on a muggy early summer afternoon. Here we see 21N arriving upon its final destination of Rickenbacker Yard on the south side of Columbus, Ohio. This edition of 21N reached just over 2.5 miles long making it an interesting task yarding the train. During the process of pulling two and half miles passed the yard, just to get the bottom of the train on an available track, two north-bounds and a southbound were held up on the main while 21N was put away.
BDZ-PP 44 076 leads IC 2612 (Varna - Sofia) through the Iskar gorge. Photo taken at Prolet stop in the end of the summer of 2021.
CP 7020 leads train 199 west through Milwaukee on a wet and gloomy day.
This is the first time I can remember in the last 5 years that this train had power that was interesting leading the way.
PC U30B 2866 leads a Westbound Conrail freight at the station in Hornell, NY in August, 1977. This was my first visit to Hornell, and the action was non-stop between the CR and D&H trains. I was shooting Kodacolor print film with the old Graphlex camera. Quality is not the best, but you certainly can't get anything like this today, so I appreciate the images I have. The 2nd unit is the only GP35 that I am aware of to wear the Reading green scheme that was on the Reading GP39-2's and GP40-2's.

Rio Grande SD45 No. 5319 leads train No. 287 through Prince Canyon at Lynn, Utah. By this point in time, Southern Pacific locomotives began to mix with D&RGW power on Rio Grande rails. This particular train had an EMD GP9E and a GE B30-7 tagging along for the ride.
BR Green 37667 (D6851) 'Flopsie' leads the 5Z22 1053 Watlington to Norwich T.C. leg of Jeremy Hosking's private railtour towards Littleport. This was the second day of Hosking's private tour; the first day running from Edinburgh to Orton Mere via York and Lincoln Central. Over the next 3 days, the consist would visit parts of Norfolk, Suffolk and Kent. Trainload Construction liveried 37688 'Great Rocks' was at the other end of the train.
The picture taken in upper jigran, This is one of main source of jigran nala after crossing this pass the trek leads to burwea and ratti gali
Always wondered where this path leads.......Nowhere, it just stops at a fence and we had to come back the same way. It was a very pretty detour and we would not have seen the Buzzards if we had not taken the path. Everywhere was so green.

BNSF 8439 leads a southbound coal train through the triple-track main on the U.S. Air Force Academy, CO.
Nah, that's not a triple track main; the two other tracks are little spur/stub tracks at what used to be known as 'Stadium'.
Anyone want some old concrete ties?
UP 1983 leads leads a M CYDVX 09 (Cheyenne to Denver manifest) through the Greeley subdivision's namesake town. With a 15:30 call out of Cheyenne, hopes were high for an evening chase into Denver. Unfortunately, there were 5 southbounds, 1 northbound, and 2 locals that caused this train to make it less than 50 miles in 6 hours. Here the train is seen pulling out of Greeley siding after waiting for a grain train to run around it roughly 45 minutes after sunset.
UP 1766 leads the YSPBN as they duck under Dale Street, shuttling cars from East Minneapolis to the Belt Yard. Its been a really cloudy March so far, it was reliving to see sun out for an hour this morning.
An overhauled EMD SD75M leads BNSF Train X ARKLMS9 26S past CP Rose just west of Parkville on the BNSF St. Joseph Sub. These aren't very common leaders in this area, so it's always nice to catch on on the point. Better than another orange GE. I think these look really slick in the "Heritage 4" paint scheme with the black trucks. I wish they were all painted this way.

BNSF 8990 leads a coal empty north through the Greenland Open Space in Greenland, CO.
Couple with my previous upload, I did the same exact sequence of shots in Spruce and Greenland here last Spring. This time, though, both units were ACes.
The big rock on the left there is Pikes Peak, which has shed much of its snow in the recent weeks. With Colorado Springs tying the all-time high temperature in the city of 101F, it's been quite toasty in the Pikes Peak Region lately...
43054 leads 91122 with the new OHLE test train enroute to Peterbourgh to do a test / calibration run on the ECML prior to being used for testing the new 25kv electrification on the MML the power cars are required as need to get up to to 125mph to do the testing
NBSR 6319 leads a New Brunswick Southern Railway westbound freight, as they round the bend at Tracy, New Brunswick.

BNSF 1953 leads the Rapids Local down the double track, approaching MP 15.9 a few minutes before sunset on the cold afternoon of December 27, 2017.
The 1953 and 1964 are running down the Lakes Sub. on the blocks of a loaded COB coal train that also ran west out of Superior towards Cohasset.
CSX SD50 8652 still in a decent but weathered Conrail regalia leads Q549 through Senoia, Georgia in January of 2006. (Slide Scan)
An ET44C4 leads BNSF Train S LHALPC1 11L under the 342 Signal Bridge on Main Track 2 of the BNSF Marceline Sub. The former Santa Fe Searchlight Signals above are doomed to their replacement, tentatively within the next month ending their careers that spanned almost a century.

WNYP 643 leads a quartet of Bigs, headed North through Eldred, PA in the evening of June 22, 2019. The crew had made the Driftwood Turn, and was returning to Olean as light engines. This day marked the start of huge crowds chasing the WNYP, with at least 30 fans out chasing. After the stone cars were dropped at Turtlepoint, everyone else bailed, and I found myself all alone as the power made the run to Olean.
