ICE 6445 leads two other ICE SD40-2s and the CP 608 oil loads across the Crystal Diamond on May 12, 2012.
I know Dan and Shawn uploaded their shots just mere hours after taking them so I am a little late, but just wanted to prove that you can not only fit two, but three train goobs lying down on the sidewalk to shoot under the fence here on the Highway 81 bridge. And a nice, new sidewalk it is as this is first train I have shot here even though I grew up about 5 miles west of here.
BNSF 614 leads a oil train east through Brookfield, IL. While the side still said Santa Fe, the front was patched for BNSF, which was a bit of a disappointment. Oh well, stiill better than having the 3rd unit leading!

Vineyards of Missiano
Weinberge von Missian
This very pleasant hiking tour leads you to three popular castles: Castel d’Appiano, Castel Boymont and Castel Corba
Our starting point is the small village of Missiano in the municipality of Appiano. Having reached the car parking space underneath Castel Corba, we start our hiking tour on an asphalted street. Very soon we can see two of the castles on our tour: first Castel Corba and than Castel Boymont, which lies a little further above in the woods.
Later on, the trail leads us along vineyards and fruit orchards, presenting wonderful views to the valley and the city of Bolzano. Soon afterwards we reach a farm, which we simply cross, staying on the asphalted street. At the beginning of the wood we follow trail no. 12 until the so-called „castle trail“ (in German „Burgenweg“). Having gained height on a small steep track the trail goes on on a series of serpentines until we finally reach the tower „Kreideturm“.
We pass the „Kreideturm“, keep to the left and continue until we reach an asphalted forest street which will finally lead us to Castel d’Appiano. Before the trail gets steeper we decide to stop and drink some water we brought with us in our rucksacks. Continuing our hiking, we soon arrive at our first destination, the Castel d’Appiano. A breathtaking view to the valley and the city of Bolzano is welcoming us here! Having taken some fotos, we decide to explore the inside of the castle. Passing a small bridge we reach the castle’s gate and enter the courtyard. In the castle’s tavern we treat ourselves with some refreshing drinks.
After a short visitation we continue our hiking tour towards Castel Boymont, passing some horses and pigs who are looking at us half asleep. We follow the track steeply downwards to a gorge where we take some steps and cross a little bridge before we walk upwards again to reach the other side where we can once again enjoy the great view to the castle and its chapel. We continue our hike through the wood (trail no. 14), finally arriving at our next destination, Castel Boymont. After a short visitation, we enjoy the warming autumn sunlight.
Starting our way back we take the same trail on which we came to Castel Boymont. After a few metres we turn into the trail that leads us back to Castel Corba.
Please note: This hiking tour is particularly recommendable in spring and autumn and very suitable for families since castles and their courtyards are great playgrounds for children who like adventures.

ARR 3007 leads a short Glacier Discovery southbound through Beluga Point.
This is a shorter Discovery than what I got used to last year; last year it was running with a dome car at times. Here, it's just a baggage car, a single-level, and the one-off DMU.
It's always a bonus when you get a nice wave from the crew!
New Haven Railroad R-3-a class ALCO 4-8-2 Mountain steam locomotive 3557 leads a block of refrigerator boxcars eastbound along the Shore Line at Guilford, Connecticut, 7-1948. It appears that the majority of the refrigerator cars are of wooden construction with a few steel cars thrown into the consist. These R-3-a class steam locomotive were the most powerful among the Mountain type engines on the railroad and could operate a freight train at close to average passenger train speeds if required. In the distance you can see a block signal bridge and also what appears to be two railfans walking by the track near their parked car. You can see the fireman's arm outside of his cab window.

43046 leads 1B61, 16:02 Nottingham – London St Pancras through Attenborough station. 22nd October 2011. I should mention that although I appear to very close to the Down Line with my back to traffic when taking this photograph I am firmly on the non railway side of the boundary fence at a point where a public foot crossing crosses the line. 43046 was built in 1977 at Crewe works as part of HST set 253023 for Western Region London – Bristol/South Wales services. 253023 was one of five Western Region HST sets transferred to Midland Main Line duties in 1982 and 43046 has been pounding up and down to London St Pancras from the East Midlands and South Yorkshire for the last twenty seven years. It is now operated by East Midlands Trains and has been fitted with a Paxman VP185 engine in lieu of its original Paxman Valenta.
ARR 4326 leads the southbound Denali Star over the Eagle River as a group of kayakers float downstream with the current.
This photo took some work and a lot of blessing from above to get. This was my second consecutive evening standing on this same rock in the river after having the scene clouded out the day prior. It's a little more than a half-mile hike with some steep terrain to negotiate to get here, but it's not so much the hike that's worrisome but rather the fact that you're doing it in the middle of nowhere right through the heart of bear country. Fortunately, I didn't encounter any bear or moose or wolves but I did get to watch a couple of Bald Eagles circling over the appropriately-named Eagle River the first evening. DEET kept the mosquitoes at bay for the most part, and I came away with just two bites. I did have a freak-out moment when a giant, pinky finger-sized hornet took a liking to my face. But after some girl-like flailing, it was swatted into the river and I didn't see it again.
Even though I got skunked on the first try, I did get to validate the spot I chose since I wasn't sure if I'd be able to see the MAC's trucks or not. I almost didn't hike in on this evening as the clouds were gathering once again, but I took the chance and it paid off, thankfully. The sky in the backdrop was a nice addition, especially because I've never had much luck with storm light, and also the kayakers were a surprise addition as they just happened to pop into view as the train showed up.

“Synopsis”
A Palestinian group from Gaza hacks into North Korea’s cryptocurrency system, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars. Their true goal is not money—but to recreate the lost homeland of Gaza on American soil.
Amid the backdrop of hardline Republican immigration policies and a growing wave of xenophobia, a quiet plan begins to take shape: the gradual collapse of America from within.
During a speech at Madison Square Garden, Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford is shot. Almost simultaneously in Los Angeles, former president Owen Reed is attacked at a rally for Democratic hopeful Ryan Bennett.
Two assassinations—mirroring one another—ignite a nation’s deepest divide. Yet, against all odds, Justin survives. His blood type is one in 2.5 million: the Bombay Blood Group.
The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidate’s life.
Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.
Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New York—embedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.
His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) live—symbols of “the order America built.”
Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.
Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.
Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: “We will never bow to terror.”
Among the crowd, Rafi’s operatives have already taken their positions.
As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasser—once Rafi’s comrade, haunted by the memory of his sister’s death in Gaza—tries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.
But Rafi’s conviction remains unshaken.
Under the twilight beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, amid the city’s fading noise, the two men part ways.
It is the boundary between prayer and vengeance, between hope and nothingness.

B♭ will be released worldwide on February 29, 2026.
Recently, director Ridley Scott remarked that streaming films and series have become dull.
I agree.
If you have two hours to spare for such stories, I ask for only two minutes of your time.
Two minutes with my novel will outlast those two hours.
I am confident of that.
Stay tuned.

My new novel
B♭ (B Flat)
English translation by GPT-5, in collaboration with Mitsushiro Nakagawa
Twilight sank over the harbor town, dimming the air as the rusted girders along the pier turned a burnished red.
The park in Red Hook was nearly empty; the chains of the swings stirred in the wind, clinking faintly.
Children’s laughter drifted from afar, only deepening the stillness that hung over the place.
Amir stood outside the wire fence, gazing at the scene, and something half-forgotten stirred within him.
There had been evenings, too, in the rubble of Gaza.
Out from the ruins of broken houses, his mother would appear—
breathless, dust clinging to her clothes, coming to find him, to hold him close.
He could still recall the scent of her hair, the warmth of her arms.
“Let’s go home,” she had said.
Even if “home” was nothing more than a collapsing shell of stone and dust, her voice alone had led him back.
A mattress laid atop debris.
A room with no walls, only wind.
Yet each time his mother’s hand brushed his forehead, that place became, undeniably, home.
Amir’s gaze returned to the New York children swaying on the swings.
The innocent rhythm between mothers and sons was repeating itself again, bathed in the soft light of dusk.
It was a world untouched by weapons or blood.
“Rafi,” he murmured, barely louder than the wind,
“maybe… we don’t have to go on.”
Rafi didn’t look away.
His eyes were clouded with the sediment of Gaza—blood and dust, the memory of ruin.
His father’s body fallen in shadow.
Walls blackened with fire.
Dreams torn apart.
What filled him was not tenderness, but a cold and merciless anger.
“Don’t forget, Amir,” he said, his voice hard as stone.
“In the same place where your mother held you, our fathers were slaughtered.
Those ruins are not just ruins.”
Amir fell silent.
The river’s surface rippled red in the twilight; across the East River, the towers of Manhattan shimmered faintly, blurred at the edges.
Peace and destruction, memory and hatred—
they mingled together in the same wind.
Behind the wire fence, children’s laughter still rang out.
But to the two men, it sounded only like an echo from another world.
The setting sun sank quietly, staining the bridge’s iron joints red as the heat beneath it trembled in the air.
Rainwater pooled in the cracks of the concrete, reflecting a thin sheet of gold.
A faint steam rose from the damp air, and the salt from the harbor clung to Amir’s nose.
The boarded door of an abandoned factory hung loose,
the wind pushing in old newspapers and leaves, swirling them into tiny spirals.
From afar came the cry of cicadas, and a city bus exhaled a sigh through its brakes.
Beneath the bridge stood Amir, Rafi, and several others scattered in silence.
Some wiped sweat from their brows, eyes lowered to the ground;
others rested hands upon the girders, gazing out toward the distant light.
At intervals, the shadow of a parent waiting for a child passed by,
a white-roofed van gliding through the heat.
Amir rubbed his back, the sweat clinging to his shirt, and sat down in the shadow of the bridge pier.
Rafi stood a short distance away.
Their shadows stretched long, wavering under the harsh westering sun.
No one among their comrades moved; their stillness was a kind of breathless waiting.
“Can’t we stop here?” Amir’s voice wavered into the humid air.
In his mind, he saw again his mother’s hand reaching through a crack in the stone wall—
that small, dirt-stained hand that once touched his cheek.
The desire to return to that warmth still flickered faintly in his chest, like an ember refusing to die.
Rafi clenched his jaw, and spoke through his teeth, his words as brief and cold as a stone cast into the sea.
“Don’t forget, Amir.
If you forget that night, we’ll betray the dead.”
His voice merged with the creak of metal underfoot, irreconcilable with the laughter of children or the cry of cicadas drifting in the distance.
Amir narrowed his eyes, watching the flow of light beyond the railing.
Across the river, windows shimmered in layers—
places where life went on, where dinners were being served,
where children’s laughter and footsteps would echo softly through the gardens.
A deep shadow cut across Rafi’s face.
His fists were clenched, the veins on his hands taut and bright.
“That wish of yours,” he said quietly,
“do you know it might become someone’s gravestone?”
Amir’s gaze fell to a small white rabbit doll at his feet.
It was caked with dust, one eye missing.
Perhaps it belonged to a child who once played beneath this bridge—
or perhaps it had simply wandered here by chance.
Either way, to Amir, that single missing eye seemed like a fleeting glimpse of a world quietly disappearing.
Silence spread between them.
The wind hummed low through the iron beams.
Around them, the world went on moving.
A van door shut.
A parent touched a child’s shoulder.
A bus turned the corner.
Their comrades drew shallow breaths, eyes fixed on the ground or the far horizon.
Without looking back, Amir began walking toward the city beyond the bridge’s shadow.
Behind him came a single breath from Rafi—
a sound that carried the stillness of a corpse.
The summer dusk slowly swallowed the bridge.
The men beneath it remained as faint silhouettes,
poised between the red of sunset and the cold gleam of steel.
Rafi quietly unzipped his bag and drew out a tablet.
His fingers trembled slightly,
but he took a slow breath to steady himself,
and aimed the camera at the mark of “B♭” at the bottom of mellow-echo.net.
A dark screen flickered to life, revealing a deep-layer QR code.
Without hesitation, his finger slid along the words:
“C4-ID: Vanta+Core / Ready.”
That movement sent a faint tremor through the tension of the men beneath the bridge,
blending with the dry scent of rust and the damp summer air.
From the far side of the East River, under another bridge,
sparks began to rise—one, then another—
tiny flashes glowing red in the dark.
The light quivered across the shadows,
and the sound of metal striking metal echoed low.
Rafi’s eyes followed the fading silhouette of Amir’s back.
The others stepped silently away,
drawing a little farther from the bridge.
Moist air clung to Rafi’s skin,
and the mingled red of dusk and chill of steel filled the space around him.
In the hush beneath the bridge,
each flash and creak formed a strange rhythm in his chest.
A cicada cried once in the distance.
The city’s murmur faded to a far-off haze.
Pressed beneath that wave of tension,
the men held their breath,
confirming each other’s presence only through glances and the rhythm of their breathing.
The summer dusk slowly—yet surely—
swallowed the bridge, the city,
and the shadows that remained.

Mitsushiro Nakagawa

English translation by GPT-5, in collaboration with Mitsushiro Nakagawa
///////////////////////////////////

Wisconsin and Southern (WAMX) 3869 leads the day's edition of L599 south around the curve at Butler Road, between Woodland and Rubicon, on a sunny Friday mid-day. The crew has just finished working the Mayville Spur between Iron Ridge and Mayville, and the hogger has the short train up to track speed as they bop along through the countryside. Ahead at Hartford they will change trains with the L249 crew out of North Milwaukee and then proceed to spend most of the rest of the afternoon working the industries in Hartford, to the chagrin of a couple of railfans (including myself) who were hoping for an afternoon run in good light back to Horicon...
It is always nice to see a few of the WSOR brown RBLs still kicking around too. They were once so ubiquitous on the WSOR, the northern division especially and on the Reedsburg sub that I grew up on which once had two active canneries. While there are still a few around the fleet is a small fraction of what it once was...
BNSF 2922 leads the Drayton Local south nearing the yard in Grand Forks, ND.
The 2922 has a storied history. Built as a GP35 in January 1964 for the Texas and Pacific Railroad, it also served on the Missouri Pacific before it eventually ended up with the Burlington Northern as part of the GP39E rebuild program.
Leads 6m58 Tytherington quay - Quainton railhead through Aylesbury station with 66012 dead on the rear ,
These services are due to stop soon due to HS2 having to complete works that will affect the risborough line till the end of October
R707 Leads A66 at Berwick Station as they move into Platform 1 for the R to lead back to Melbourne.
707 Operations Streamliner to Stony Point & Berwick Tour.
26/08/18
4836 leads a short trip train T204 made up of a short rake of new SCT PQSY wagons from Leightonfield through Chester Hill.
CEY002 leads CEY007 & CEY006 while making a smokey exit out of Capertee Tunnel with Centennial / SSR's loaded coal; AR02. Wednesday, 26th October 2016
800003 leads 800004 through Newton Abbot on the 22nd June 2017, returning from a first visit of the class to Cornwall and running as 5X92 12.47 Penzance to North Pole IEP Depot.
CP 2264 leads H41 eastbound on the Beach Branch, passing hoppers H42 placed on the interchange the previous day. CN would eventually take them to be scrapped at Triple M in Hamilton, Ontario.
ATN 9401 leads an extremely backlit Mountain Job through Albertville after the Night Crew lawed out and left the train south of town. 9401 is well known for having 3 or 4 incidents with semi trucks, one of them damaging the unit enough that the truck company covered the repair costs and even got the unit painted.
U25C 6501 leads three other GE 'sixes' towards Cedar Hill on unseasonably warm and hazy spring day .
Since we had "open campus" rules at our High School and we had no classes after lunch , the Lebaron brothers and I met up for some after school train chasing on the Hartford Line.
On this day M-6 and M-7 met right in front of us at Kennedy Road in Windsor CT .We also saw NH-4 later on , and if I'm not mistaken there was a detour of Shore Line Amtrak train 172 as well.
Our little piece of Penn Central was busy that afternoon !! A warm and fuzzy PC memory!
Special thanks to Rob Pisani aka "Erie Limited" for helping me bring this shot back from the dead...
Kennedy Road Windsor CT Hartford Line PC
Bristol to Weymouth services were strengthened to increase capacity. This 153 leads twp class 158's for that purpose.
leads a grain extra with 10 extra cars he picked up in Freeport, thanks to Mark Llanuza and Gary Morgan for the updates on this guy!
Tom Boonen leads Fabian Cancellara at the 2010 Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) on the Muur, just moments before Cancellara would make his race winning move.
New Haven Railroad GE EP-5 motor leads a passenger train in the snow along the electrified main line at a location west of Stamford, Connecticut, 1968, Bob Hughes Photo. The sun is low in this photo with the long shadows being present. The well known triangular catenary is seen in this location. With the present hairpin wire fence in the scene, most likely the train which is operating on an express track is about to pass through a station area because a portion of a platform can be seen to the right that is covered with snow.
20161 leads 20047 approaching Attenborough station with an empty unfitted coal train made up exclusively of 21 ton coal hoppers, 15th June 1981. These empties are almost certainly heading for Gedling colliery. After nationalisation in 1948 British Railways continued to build London and North Eastern Railway design coal hopper wagons with both welded and riveted bodies. Over twenty three thousand were built between 1949 and 1958 to five diagrams 1/141, 1/143, 1/145, 1/146 and 1/149 with the vast majority (nearly seventeen thousand) to diagram 1/146. They finally disappeared in the late 1980’s.
Locomotive History
Following the failure of the class 17 Claytons British Rail returned to its initial Type 1 design and ordered another hundred class 20 locomotives from English Electric. 20161 is one of this later batch of class 20’s built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry. It entered traffic in September 1966 and was allocated new to the Nottingham Division (in reality Toton) and was withdrawn from Toton twenty one years later in February 1988 having (as far as I can tell) been a Toton engine all its life. It was broken up by Vic Berry, Leicester in May 1990. 20047 was built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry and entered traffic in December 1959 and withdrawn in the early 1990’s. However 20047 was subsequently sold to Direct Rail Services, overhauled in the late 1990’s and renumbered 20301. It is currently (September 2014) stored at Barrow Hill.
90007 leads a prial of class 90 locos working 4M89 16:13 Felixstowe - Ditton. The third loco 90016 is running unpowered presumably to take the engine to Crewe
M50680 leads a three car class 120 DMU set into Nottingham station, 19th May 1980. The western approach to Nottingham station has completely changed from this view with all of the railway infrastructure (goods depot, goods yard, shunting frame, 16ton mineral wagons) all gone being replaced by new Magistrates courts and Inland Revenue offices.
Unit History
M50680 was built at Swindon works in 1958 as part of an order for forty nine, three car sets for Western Region long distance “cross country” services. In the late 1960’s, twenty two sets were transferred from the Western Region to Derby Etches Park, to replace Cravens class 105 three car units which where transferred to Accrington where they were reduced to two car power twins with the trailer vehicles being withdrawn. I am old enough to remember our surprise on the arrival of these class 120 sets in the East Midlands (no internet in those days) and the improvement they brought to the East Midlands local services. Until the introduction of the class 150 “Sprinter” DMU’s in 1985 these class 120 units formed the backbone of the East Midlands local train fleet. By March 1986 the remaining class 120 vehicles had been transferred away from Derby and by October 1989 the last class 120 vehicles had been withdrawn.

New York Ontario & Western Railway Y-2 class 4-8-2 Mountain steam locomotive # 457, leads a freight train on the main line with a reefer block up front as two kids on the left watch the action during the early 1940's. The Y-2 class Mountains were built by ALCO in 1929 and were very similar to the New York Central L-2c class steam locomotives. Ten locomotives in the Y-2 class were delivered # 451 - # 460. They were rebuilt and improved in later years along with a weight increase, and they provided with their booster a total of 71,868 lbs of starting tractive effort. The main driver on this locomotive appears to be a Boxpok. The two young lads sitting on the left are enjoying the steam action I am sure. Do not know the location for this photo scene. There appears to be a town with homes on the right and also a graveyard.
The name of the photographer that captured this image is unknown and it came from a photo that was on the Internet. This photo has been cropped and modified from the original to improve its appearance.
