leads an unknown freight under the East Conway signals at Baden, PA.
Built in 1991 as CR 6105 to NS 8346. it was retired and sold in late-2019 to Progress Rail for scrap.
M50830 leads a three car set waiting the “right away” from the guard at Barnt Green station, 12th July 1980.
Unit History
M50830 is a class 116 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) and is one of three hundred and twenty class 116 vehicles built in three batches at Derby works between 1957 and 1958. They were formed into one hundred and four, three car sets and four power twin sets. W50830 was originally formed in a three car set with Trailer Composite (TC) W59338 and Driving Motor Second (DMS) W50883 and they formed one of the fifty four, three car sets built at Derby in 1957. The set was initially allocated to Cardiff Cathays for Cardiff Valley duties. In November 1966 W50830 was transfered to South Gosforth as part of the replacement of the North Tyneside electric units. Eighteen months later in June 1968 it transferred to Finsbury Park for Great Northern suburban duties were it remained until the completion of the Great Northern suburban electrification when it migrated to Tyseley in February 1978. It would be refurbished in June 1978 and remained in service until withdrawn in April 1985. It was broken up in August 1986.

8130 leads a short 1721N empty cement train across the viaduct at Bowenfels. This would prove to be the third last train to the Kandos plant, with the final train running on July 21st, 2011.
1721/7122 cement freights ceased in mid-July with Cement Australia slowly closing down operations at their Kandos plant. Typically the domain of a 81 class, occasionally an 80 class would be rostered to assist, or a second 81 class if loading was high enough. On at least one occasion, a G Class locomotive worked the train as well.
New Haven Railroad heavyweight round roof combo MUT trailer leads other powered MUT coaches eastbound along the electrified main line as enters the station platform area in Bridgeport, Connecticut, ca 1960. These Osgood-Bradley round roof MUTS built between 1926-1931 provided excellent service over the years. There were only two combo baggage coaches ordered. In this view you can really see the detail of the hair pin fence that separates the two express tracks from the station platform tracks. There are a couple people seen on the arriving train platform.

CN 2304 leads A406 a few miles west of Hampton, New Brunswick, along the Sussex Subdivision. The frozen Kennebecasis River is the backdrop of this shot. I had to race ahead for this shot, so I wasn't able to adjust the cameras settings. Looks like it worked out decent.
Somebody should go and cut those trees down near the tracks...

4473 leads the AK cars with 4908 on the rear through Lidcombe. I was most surprised to see these, as I had seen them heading towards town about an hour before this
New Haven Railroad F-1 Class ALCO 4-4-2 Atlantic steam locomotive 1108, leads a local commuter passenger train in an area around Boston, Massachusetts, Winter ca 1940. At this time the Osgood-Bradley Pullman coaches seen on this train were still wearing their full skirts. The snow is a bit dirty from the numerous trains that have perhaps gone by.

67002 leads RHTT set and sister skip 67022 on the MML leaf buster circuit. The pair are working 3J92 south to West Hampstead and are photo'd here at Bush Bridge, Wellingborough, with Harrowden Junction in the distance, Wellingborough GBRf depot / Virtual Quarry behind.
The fourth line re-development is clear to see now. British Rail removed the fourth track between Kettering and Sharnbrook Junction in the 1980s for cost cutting reasons making platform 4 unused. The platform still does exist, overgrown and no link to the rest of the station. A building is left derelict on it and there are proposals for the platform to be reopened, which will link in with the electrification extensions from Bedford to Corby.
BNSF 8073 leads the H-GFDNTW (Grand Forks, ND - Northtown, MN) south through Alton, ND on a perfect spring day.
This was one of my favorite spots to shoot from during my residency in North Dakota simply because it was one of the very few elevated vantage points of the tracks in the eastern part of the state! As you can see in the background, it's pretty darn flat, no trees, no hills, nothing. If you could pan to the left, to the right, and back behind me, it would all look the same. This overpass gave a coveted change in perspective!
The other reason I liked this spot was because of the massive grain facility you see here. That's the Alton Grain Terminal, and it's got at least 8 giant concret tubes-worth of storage, 4.1 million bushels-worth to be exact! And if you've ever driven I-29 between Grand Forks and Fargo, you've surely seen this monster as it stands in stark contrast to the surrounding landscape.
Ironically enough, as massive as the Alton Grain Terminal is, if you just turn 90 degree to the left and drive for a little more than 12 miles, you would come across the tallest structure in the world at the time this photo was taken: the KVLY TV Tower. It has since dropped to the third tallest structure in the world, but it's still the tallest structure in the western hemisphere standing a whopping 2,063' in height. Yet most folks don't even know it's there! And just a mere 8 miles to its south stands the KXJB TV Mast checking in at 2,060', the second tallest structure in the western hemisphere! And here you thought North Dakota was boring!
But back to the shot: I was wanting to get a wide-angle overhead shot here for a long time, but shadows never played into my favor. In the past, the shadow from the overpass itself ruined the shot I was wanting. But on this day I had near-broadside light and in just the right amount. I think what helps this shot is that the shadows are short enough that they don't obscure the grain tracks on the right. Plus, shadows of a trio of SD40-2s is always awesome!
One last thought...hard to believe it was only 5 years ago that SD40-2s like this were still commonplace on High Priority manifests. In the seeming blink of an eye, all of that changed and now GEVOs are the power du jour...
The 6M63 Bridgewater - Crewe is seen at Treddington Crossing , both 309 and 312 are currently on the Yorkshire RHTT though not always partnering each other.

67003 leads 1Z67 07:03 Norwich to Harrogate "Northern Belle" across Knaresborough Viaduct on the somewhat dull 26th April 2008.
A spiral staircase leads to a strange building which looks like a treehouse.
It is clad with shingles and has a tower-like chimney on top and seems to be located near a church.
The building might have been located in France since the picture was made by a french photographer LePetit a Trou??? in the 1860s.
Does anyone know what or where this is?
DE1663 leads sister DE1664 on the 226 stand at Haven Green, Ealing Broadway. The former was one of three of the batch required, so a short trip to Hanger Lane was pending, where by sheer good fortune I was able to intercept then penultimate DE1656. All eyes will be on DE1651 at my next visit to the WJ routes…19.4.22

The amount of light and wind was changing the landscape before me. The light was diminishing in illumination and expanding in tone. With some edits here are some samples of the wonders working their ways within my paths.

Wilbur leads the way up the roots and boulders of the Old Trail up to Lake Serene. We took the Lake Serene Old Trail from the Bridal Veil Falls at the boardwalk. We gained 1300 feet in less than a mile on the Old Lake Serene Trail. Our ascent on the Old Trail was a lot more fun than our descent on the new trail.
