Osborn’s out of the public eye, Spider-Man hasn’t done anything to make the news, and I have zero leads. In other words, work is slow. I pushed out that piece I promised to write about Jessica Cambell, but I haven’t done much else.
Bored, I spin my desk chair around to look at Robbie. He’s tapping a pen on his desk and staring at an empty document. He looks distressed and I think I know why. “Writer’s block?” I ask, confident in my assumption.
“Yeah,” he says while rotating his chair to face me. “I’m hung up on something.”
“We both know the cure for that.”
“Alcohol?”
“Alcohol.”
“Are you suggesting we ditch work for a drink?”
“No, I’m saying we should drop by my place for a cold beer.”
“Is there a difference? Ah well, it’s not like I’m doing anything.”
“Precisely. By the way, what were you trying to write?”
“Jonah asked me to write a piece on Lonnie Lincoln.”
My jaw drops. “Your high school bully?”
“You remember that conversation?” he asks, surprised.
“How could I not? Damn, you really do need a drink. Or five. Come on.” I jump out of my chair and motion for him to join me. He stands up and we walk to the elevator together.
“So what’s Lonnie up to these days?” I ask as the elevator takes us downstairs.
“He’s a successful businessman. Very wealthy.”
“So he’s still a bully?”
“Pretty much.” Robbie responds, with a laugh.
When we reach the bottom floor, I step out and stretch. “This job sure has a tendency to bring up shitty memories, doesn’t it? Lately I’ve been thinking about my own high school experience.” I laugh at this and then turn to Robbie. “Sorry if it sounds like I’m laughing at you. I’m laughing at the fact that people used to tell me high school would be the best time of my life. That thought used to depress me. I had no friends and I spent my time scribbling down the wild ideas in my head. Now I have one friend and I write for the least respected news outlet in New York. That feels like an improvement to me. Not much of one, but at least I get payed to do what I like. Not to mention I get to hang out with the office’s token black guy.”
Robbie sighs at that last comment. “Let’s go drink your cheap beer. I’m getting tired of standing here.”
“Oh, sorry. And stop knocking my beer.”
“Buy something decent if you want me to stop.”
“Fine. By the way, did you hear about Captain America?”
“Ben, Cap’s not alive. That was someone taking advantage of a day of remembrance to get some attention.”
“But—” I start.
“Save it,” he interrupts, stopping me. “I’ll believe you when there’s proof.”
“Right, right.”
A pair of ACes leads a southbound coal train toward the Academy siding for a meeting with a northbound ACe-led coal empty on the U.S. Air Force Academy, CO.
That big building in the background is the Great Wolf Lodge which has opened in the previous year. Prior to that, the company that was building it ran out of money and the building sat mostly completed but totally empty for years. Based on the parking lot, it appears the Great Wolf Lodge (and water park) is doing a good deal of business. If you haven't been to the north side of Colorado Springs in the past 5 years or so, you'll be a bit surprised with all the changes.
ARR 4003 leads a beefy Anchorage-to-Fairbanks freight north on Elmendorf AFB as the Chugach Mountains blur in the exhaust.
Well, they all can't be sunny, right? After a week of low clouds, rain, and drizzle, the sun was playing peek-a-boo with the clouds on this particular evening, but by the time this freight started to roll, the clouds were winning.
One of these days I'll get a sunny shot here to knock it off my list. I have 5 chances a week with an almost-constant departure time of 8:06PM to work with!
She Leads Me On.
Here is the story...amidst covid
Venturing out to an outskirt place, came upon a group of kite flyers in the open field. It was separated by a deep drain and was wondering how to cross over. There comes this lady, apparently familiar with the place, she choose a spot to cross over, I follow suite behind, and saw the V shape path against a backdrop of backlighted greenery, and a nice rim light cast upon her profile... seize that opportunity with Fuji XE3 and XF35mm F1.4.... "She leads me on" to the kite flyers just round the corner.
"Correction leads to advancement."

Revision Era 1173:
In a time and era set far into the the future, humanity has reached a point of collapse. Once a species living in near utopian conditions, humans colonized planets up to Mars and built space colonies to sustain massive populations that couldn't originally be sustained by Earth. All went well for centuries to come. However, amidst this advancement, mankind eventually forgot their true competitive nature, which remained dormant and ready to strike. Political disagreements began to occur and soon, few people began to show pessimism for this "perfect" lifestyle. As time went on, this sudden change in thought would grow and would soon culminate among various groups of people, eventually reaching their way into autonomous governments. This marked the ignition of human conflict yet again, which was supposed to have remained to an end ages ago when the space colonization program was authorized and clear for construction. People wanted to have their thoughts be recognized foremost above the rest. Soon words were ignored and the more radical bunch turned to weapons from millennia ago, from the Common Era.
Lost weapons from the Common Era were a rare resource. Historical archives within the Revision Era state that weapons, as far back as 2020 to 2100 AD, were mass produced in several nations throughout the world as a way to enhance economies and provide a measure of self-defense. These archives also note the success of Earth-based companies that have been defunct since far into the past such as Lumine Systems and Kurai Tactical Division. In the Common Era thousands of years ago, the production of these weapons meant a richer economy and a safer nation. In reality, this was somewhat the opposite. Nations became more threatened with the existence of deadlier and more common weaponry. As nations became more economically powerful, this meant that more money from their evenly divided budgets would eventually be funded towards weapons development, resulting in the culminations of far deadlier and efficient weaponry. This was a vicious cycle that eventually led to a catastrophic war in 2095 AD, which threatened the political status of the world's economic titans and ultimately the survival of humanity. These attacks were always believed to be a part of a radical plot to undermine countries but in reality, weapons were the main perpetrator. To achieve insane goals, one requires insane ways to reach there. This could be anything but in the world once before, weapons were the surefire way.
Humanity was on the brink of extinction as companies produced almost anything that came to mind: infantry weapons, combat drones, and even devastating AI armament platforms. Both sides became increasingly armed with this various technology, thanks to exports and, in the case of the radicals, the black market and anonymous spies planted within who collected information at every single second. Both sides ultimately reached a stalement until the space colonization program was authorized. This would allow the Earth-born humans to maintain their political ideologies on Earth while allowing others to maintain autonomous control over the various colonies and assert their beliefs. Consequently, mankind soon lived among the stars. Decades and centuries later, many would soon begin to walk and breathe on the terraformed planets. Disagreements came to an end because everyone in certain places shared common beliefs.
The Revision Era began as a realization that disagreements will never cease and humanity will always attempt to destroy itself unknowingly. At one point in time, humanity became extremely weaponized and powerful to a point where that technology had to be destroyed. Modernized civilizations on Earth were destroyed and space colonies were obliterated. No possible remnants of the dangerous Common Era survived. All that remained were the Earth humans that hid underground and those that believed humanity was a threat: the humans living on the sole space colony that survived and perpetrated the entire incident. This space colony, named as the Revisionist, soon marked the beginning of the Revision Era: an era of starting over and taking a new path for humanity. Earth and the other planets were "revised" and reset via complete regression. Their lost technology was buried underneath the surfaces of their planets but no one had known of this. They rebuilt their technology and reached the 21st century standards for technology but they were still significantly behind. The "21st century" standards in the Revision Era were on par with the Victorian era, as the Revisionist regarded both 2000s AD and the Victorian era as "equally archaic." This gap happened simply because the planetary humans' knowledge was lost along with their technology.
Humans excavated the planets in an effort to mine resources but soon began to unearth their once dangerous technologies buried underneath. These relics were now seen as myth and were feared upon because of their immense power but the discoveries made soon ensured that humans on the planets would catch up once again. One such discovery was a design from 2028 AD - a weapon from the once reknown Kurai Tactical Division. However, the one uncovered was significantly different. This one was not as dated and look more modern. It also possessed capabilities that possibly couldn't have existed millennia ago. Archaeologists themselves couldn't even figure out when this weapon first existed. All they knew was that it was a very futuristic adaptation of the archaic Exodus PDW, that perhaps existed in the absolute near end of the Common Era.
Whatever the case may be, the lesson here is that regardless of near extinction, humanity will always be weaponized and ultimately powerful. No one can stop them from growing too strong because there is no such thing as "being too strong."
---
It's not common that I write out a very long story for weapons like this (usually I write lengthy but still kinda short stories) but it was an interesting thought I had. This idea of revising humanity and such came from Turn A Gundam (some parts are directly inspired from this) and this ended up being my own take on a concept like it

UP 4564 leads an AC44CW and two more SD70Ms on the point of a southbound manifest heading toward the Cascade Mountains. The siding at this location is called Dougren, and when heading south it is the first siding on the route’s newer 1952 realignment that was built for the creation of Lookout Point Lake. That realignment moved the railroad from the North Bank of the Middle Fork Willamette River to its South Bank. The end of the train is likely near a location once called Fall Creek Jct. that no longer exists. It is on the other side of a bridge that crosses the river and is where the line once split between old and new alignments. The old alignment follows the bottom of the hills in the distance in a more easterly direction on the other side of the river, while the new one jets off in a more southerly direction toward the camera, as demonstrated by UP 4564. The two grades come back together 22 miles railroad south of Fall Creek Jct. on the new alignment, after another bridge back to the north side of the river, passed the siding of Hampton. (Union Pacific’s Brooklyn Subdivision. Taken January 22, 2023.)

N608VSS leads a convoy of buses in Ayr. It was a Mercedes-Benz 709D / Alexander Sprint B25F delivered new to Western in January 1996. The routes in Ayr have changed quite a few times since these days.
A nice pair of YN2 standard cabs leads Q500 into Deshler on a beautiful summer morning, back when this train could always be counted on to hit Deshler between sunrise and 09:00. Visible in this scene are the southbound signals for Deshler Reservoir, the northbound cantilever for Deshler Reservoir, and the signals for South Deshler. I wish I would have had my license at the time, because a typical summer morning would usually yield Q506, Q500, Q340 and/or Q342 all leaving Lima in good northbound light. Of course, the only time of year one can shoot northbounds in good morning light is from mid-May to late August. Today, Q134 and Q340 are usually the only two morning northbounds.
Before the North Baltimore intermodal yard came around and added Q133 and Q134 to the Toledo Sub, Q500 was a consistent summer morning northbound between Lima and Deshler. Once the new intermodal trains were added, several other trains like Q506, Q507 and Q512 had their schedules altered, along with Q500. These days, the train usually departs Lima in the evening.

CN 5754 leads the UCNIPLX127A (Unit Windmill Blades: CN - Chicago, IL - Plainview, TX) west past CP Washington and is crossing from Santa Fe Main to Main 1 for its short journey on the transcon to Lubbock Jct in Canyon, where they will turn and head south to Plainview to end the trains journey.
UP 6830 leads the southbound MNYPU (North Yard (Denver), CO - Pueblo, CO) manifest through Colorado Springs.
This is a little more than a day after a pretty significant snow storm hit the Pikes Peak region which dropped anywhere from 7" to a foot of new snow. The snow started flying Saturday afternoon, trailed off overnight into Sunday and then picked back up through early Monday morning. This shot was taken on Tuesday and, a little unusual for Colorado snow, has stuck around thanks in large part to bitter cold temps coupled with light winds. I didn't think I'd have a chance for snow-covered trees since the time from the last flake until I got out was pretty significant.
Anyway, I was railfanning a bit crippled on this particular morning as I had been out in the storm both on Saturday and Sunday. The inside and back of my wheels got coated with packed on snow and ice and, with no way to warm them up to melt that stuff off, my wheels were horribly out of balance so whenever I got up to about 50mph, the car would start shaking pretty bad. As such, I wanted to avoid the Interstate to the max extent possible so I stayed as close to home plate as I could.
With no way to tell what was coming other than ATCS, which only showed that something was coming, I was railfanning blind. So imagine my disappointment when this leader rounded the bend. I know I trash faded H2 MACs and GEVOs, but a faded, UP GE with its nose number boards, low-slung ditch lights, and teeny tiny nose herald is waaaaaaaay worse! Making matters more intolerable, when I lived in Colorado Springs previously, the MNYPU would consistently run with a trapped UP 1989 (the Rio Grande Heritage unit) many times leading the way. The problem then was that the MNYPU was a nocturnal move running between Denver and Pueblo in the middle of the night so I never caught it. Nowadays, it seems to be running in the morning daylight...but there's no more UP 1989, instead, it's faded junk coal power leading the way! But, hey, beggars can't be choosers and there's not that many opportunities to catch trains with snow-covered trees hence why it made its way onto my SD card!

67013 leads an ex Grand Central rake of mk4 stock across the west end of Cardiff Central on Friday 18th November 2022 with 3W41 1006 Canton to Hereford.
I'm assuming this is some sort of familiarisation run for crews in the run-up to introduction of the increased loco/mk4 stock on the Marches line from December.
It appears that the stock will remain in its black livery for the time being.

The Noble Eightfold Path describes the way to the end of suffering, as it was laid out by Siddhartha Gautama. It is a practical guideline to ethical and mental development with the goal of freeing the individual from attachments and delusions; and it finally leads to understanding the truth about all things. Together with the Four Noble Truths it constitutes the gist of Buddhism. Great emphasis is put on the practical aspect, because it is only through practice that one can attain a higher level of existence and finally reach Nirvana. The eight aspects of the path are not to be understood as a sequence of single steps, instead they are highly interdependent principles that have to be seen in relationship with each other.
1. Right View
Right view is the beginning and the end of the path, it simply means to see and to understand things as they really are and to realise the Four Noble Truth. As such, right view is the cognitive aspect of wisdom. It means to see things through, to grasp the impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly objects and ideas, and to understand the law of karma and karmic conditioning. Right view is not necessarily an intellectual capacity, just as wisdom is not just a matter of intelligence. Instead, right view is attained, sustained, and enhanced through all capacities of mind. It begins with the intuitive insight that all beings are subject to suffering and it ends with complete understanding of the true nature of all things. Since our view of the world forms our thoughts and our actions, right view yields right thoughts and right actions.
2. Right Intention
While right view refers to the cognitive aspect of wisdom, right intention refers to the volitional aspect, i.e. the kind of mental energy that controls our actions. Right intention can be described best as commitment to ethical and mental self-improvement. Buddha distinguishes three types of right intentions: 1. the intention of renunciation, which means resistance to the pull of desire, 2. the intention of good will, meaning resistance to feelings of anger and aversion, and 3. the intention of harmlessness, meaning not to think or act cruelly, violently, or aggressively, and to develop compassion.
3. Right Speech
Right speech is the first principle of ethical conduct in the eightfold path. Ethical conduct is viewed as a guideline to moral discipline, which supports the other principles of the path. This aspect is not self-sufficient, however, essential, because mental purification can only be achieved through the cultivation of ethical conduct. The importance of speech in the context of Buddhist ethics is obvious: words can break or save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace. Buddha explained right speech as follows: 1. to abstain from false speech, especially not to tell deliberate lies and not to speak deceitfully, 2. to abstain from slanderous speech and not to use words maliciously against others, 3. to abstain from harsh words that offend or hurt others, and 4. to abstain from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth. Positively phrased, this means to tell the truth, to speak friendly, warm, and gently and to talk only when necessary.
4. Right Action
The second ethical principle, right action, involves the body as natural means of expression, as it refers to deeds that involve bodily actions. Unwholesome actions lead to unsound states of mind, while wholesome actions lead to sound states of mind. Again, the principle is explained in terms of abstinence: right action means 1. to abstain from harming sentient beings, especially to abstain from taking life (including suicide) and doing harm intentionally or delinquently, 2. to abstain from taking what is not given, which includes stealing, robbery, fraud, deceitfulness, and dishonesty, and 3. to abstain from sexual misconduct. Positively formulated, right action means to act kindly and compassionately, to be honest, to respect the belongings of others, and to keep sexual relationships harmless to others. Further details regarding the concrete meaning of right action can be found in the Precepts.
5. Right Livelihood
Right livelihood means that one should earn one's living in a righteous way and that wealth should be gained legally and peacefully. The Buddha mentions four specific activities that harm other beings and that one should avoid for this reason: 1. dealing in weapons, 2. dealing in living beings (including raising animals for slaughter as well as slave trade and prostitution), 3. working in meat production and butchery, and 4. selling intoxicants and poisons, such as alcohol and drugs. Furthermore any other occupation that would violate the principles of right speech and right action should be avoided.
6. Right Effort
Right effort can be seen as a prerequisite for the other principles of the path. Without effort, which is in itself an act of will, nothing can be achieved, whereas misguided effort distracts the mind from its task, and confusion will be the consequence. Mental energy is the force behind right effort; it can occur in either wholesome or unwholesome states. The same type of energy that fuels desire, envy, aggression, and violence can on the other side fuel self-discipline, honesty, benevolence, and kindness. Right effort is detailed in four types of endeavours that rank in ascending order of perfection: 1. to prevent the arising of unarisen unwholesome states, 2. to abandon unwholesome states that have already arisen, 3. to arouse wholesome states that have not yet arisen, and 4. to maintain and perfect wholesome states already arisen.
7. Right Mindfulness
Right mindfulness is the controlled and perfected faculty of cognition. It is the mental ability to see things as they are, with clear consciousness. Usually, the cognitive process begins with an impression induced by perception, or by a thought, but then it does not stay with the mere impression. Instead, we almost always conceptualise sense impressions and thoughts immediately. We interpret them and set them in relation to other thoughts and experiences, which naturally go beyond the facticity of the original impression. The mind then posits concepts, joins concepts into constructs, and weaves those constructs into complex interpretative schemes. All this happens only half consciously, and as a result we often see things obscured. Right mindfulness is anchored in clear perception and it penetrates impressions without getting carried away. Right mindfulness enables us to be aware of the process of conceptualisation in a way that we actively observe and control the way our thoughts go. Buddha accounted for this as the four foundations of mindfulness: 1. contemplation of the body, 2. contemplation of feeling (repulsive, attractive, or neutral), 3. contemplation of the state of mind, and 4. contemplation of the phenomena.
8. Right Concentration
The eighth principle of the path, right concentration, refers to the development of a mental force that occurs in natural consciousness, although at a relatively low level of intensity, namely concentration. Concentration in this context is described as one-pointedness of mind, meaning a state where all mental faculties are unified and directed onto one particular object. Right concentration for the purpose of the eightfold path means wholesome concentration, i.e. concentration on wholesome thoughts and actions. The Buddhist method of choice to develop right concentration is through the practice of meditation. The meditating mind focuses on a selected object. It first directs itself onto it, then sustains concentration, and finally intensifies concentration step by step. Through this practice it becomes natural to apply elevated levels concentration also in everyday situations.

Personal Thoughts from August 07, 1976
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Energy is one.
Individuals are parts of that one.
Individuals through a source such as Love
(or other emotion or virtue) are one.
Thoughts are a source of energy.
Energy is neither created or destroyed.
Thoughts are neither created or destroyed.
Individuals are tuned-in to thoughts.
We do not think; we experience thought.
Our level of development is how we use
these thoughts to experience other
thoughts.
We are actually experiencing energies.
Our level of development is how we can
tune-in to these energies.
Our true purpose is to think and develop;
think and develop; become the source of energy.

Big Jack: "We'll face Zorak, and we'll put that two-faced terror down for good!"
"Here, here!
Yes!
That's right!
He can run but he can't hide!"
Big Jim: "Alright, listen up, you magnificent mugs! The time has come, the hour is upon us. For too long, that snake, Zorak, has slithered in the dark, his vile schemes poisoning this world. We've tasted his treachery, felt the sting of his malice, and seen the shadows he casts over all that is good and true."
The Whip: "Heh HAAAHH!! He will taste the sting of my whip!"
Big Jim: "And after this, no more! Let this be the end! Let us be sure to truly finish him! Today, we don't just stand on the precipice of danger; we stand on the threshold of destiny! This isn't just another skirmish, PACK. This is the big one. A life-and-death struggle against an old enemy who thinks he's got us licked. Well, he's got another think coming!"
Torpedo Fist: "Just get me in position and give me one shot at him! One shot! He'll know why I be called 'Torpedo Fist'!"
Big Jim: "Look around you, men. See the grit in your brother's eyes, the courage etched on your faces. We're a team, forged in fire and tempered by trials. We've faced down insurmountable odds before, and we've emerged victorious, every single time! We're not just fighting for ourselves; we're fighting for every man, woman, and child who dreams of a world free from fear. We're fighting for tomorrow!"
Big Josh: "We shore gonna give that Zorak a hurtin' fer certain!!"
Big Jim: "So, PACK, let's march forward, chins high and hearts ablaze! Let's show Zorak what happens when true heroes rise up. This is our moment, our turn to write our names in the annals of history. Let's go out there and send that fiend back to the hole he crawled out of! For freedom! For victory! Now, PACK, LET ME HEAR YOU HOWL!!"

BN 1991 leads another nice coal train on the Wayzata Sub. from the 1998 archives. Was visiting the parents in the Twin Cities when I heard BN 1991 leaving Wayzata with a NSPX load on 8/29/98. Caught a break as they took the "Auxiliary Track" at Holden St. to cut off part of its train that was for St. Paul which allowed me to get over and catch it while shooting other stuff at Northtown. If I recall correctly (my notes and many of my slides are still at the parents house) I was able to nab it at Washington Ave., here at Nicollet Island, and again at Harrison Street. Spent about 2 rolls of K25 on this guy before it turned north towards Northtown with half of the train for the Grove Yard.
The 1991 was my favorite BN target, but I always had terrible luck catching it in the lead until later in its life when I finally caught it several times on about a half a dozen different coal trains in the late 1990s.
FP7 97C leads train 421 at Iron Mountain, Michigan on June 29, 1978. This unit was formerly in commuter service and one of the better looking F units we saw in the U. P. despite the replaced side panel which resulted in the mixed up lettering. This slide was a bit blurry, sometimes an issue when dealing with the slower shutter speed and non through the lens focus on the Kodak rangefinder camera that I was using at the time.
UP9553 leads units 6114 and SP 109 on APOA6 through Serpentine Canyon, CA on the Feather River route on 17.10.95
57305 leads 3S01 11:50 Norwich to Lowestoft through Buckenham on 29/10/12. As can be seen by the black clouds in the background the weather had really closed in by the time we'd got to Buckenham, but as the 57 whistled up for Strumpshaw Fen crossing a small gap appeared in the cloud over head and the sun managed to come out for 30 seconds as 3S01 passed us!
C502 leads C508 and VL362 in an all-EMD assault on the Cullerin Ranges with 8992 loaded El Zorro/AWB Limited export grain from Parkes to Port Kembla Inner Harbour. Since the demise of El Zorro, the CFCL Australia owned C502 and C508 have seen little use, usually on spot hire to various operators to replace failed motive power.
NR10 leads the Indian Pacific through Herne Hill, about 40 minutes and 30km into its journey from Perth. The train will continue across the Nullabor and into Adelaide, then onto Broken Hill and Sydney.
Adelaide is serviced by all the long distance locomotive hauled passenger trains that operator in Australia - The Indian Pacific (eastwest/SydneyPerth), The Ghan (north to Dawin), and The Overland (east to Melbourne).

G533 leads 4SD8 Army re enactment train from Sydney to Alice Springs via Adelaide through Mitcham on 24-7-1995. The train conveyed historic vehicles and military equipment from the Worl War 2 era and trailing on the back were NSW passenger cars.
FXE 4065 leads a long grain empty south up and over the former flyover at Spruce, CO. This is the spot where the Santa Fe used to cross over the Rio Grande. But, since about World War I, the flyovers went away and the Joint Line was born.
Just some description of what you're looking at in this shot: The rock feature on the left is Spruce Mountain; I've written about it in previous shots so I won't rehash here. The butte in the center right in the far background is Rattlesnake Butte. It's one of several buttes that make up the landscape in Douglas County. I've never physically been on Rattlesnake Butte (I've flown over it numerous times...it used to be the end point on the navigation route for the U.S. Air Force Academy's Powered Flight Program), but I'm guessing there's a reason it earned its name! And all that open space on the right is part of the vast Greenland Open Space, an intentionally preserved open space that has maintained the beauty of the Front Range.
Anyway, Ferromex ACe...not something you see every day and that's why there were a bunch of us 'fans out chasing this thing!

The Star King trail which leads to the summit of Mt Waumbek (4006') in NH is a wonderful hike to an 'easy' four thousand foot summit. The lower section of trail passes through a beautiful hardwood forest of mostly sugar maple trees, but my favorite part is the entire upper half. The upper half of the trail is completely enchanting as it meanders through a thick alpine forest of lichen clad spruce and balsam trees, entwined with lush carpets of vibrant mosses and interesting boulders. Had it been foggy or drizzling, this trail would truely be enchanting in every conceivable manner! Views are limited to peekaboos among the fir waves and a limited outlook onto the northern Presidentials from a ledgy area on the summit of Star King, with virtually no views at all from Waumbek itself. However, it's my opinion, this has been one of the more beautiful trails in the Whites so far. Curious what it's like in winter? :)
45145 leads a Sheffield – London St Pancras via Nottingham express round the curve from Lenton North Junction and on to the Down Main at Mansfield Junction whilst a class 47 and its train of empty oil tanks waits on the Down Goods for its turn to head east into Nottingham, 28th February 1978. In the foreground is a traditional stencil type speed sign (45) long since replaced by the current “roundels” similar to those found on the roads. However this type of speed sign might make a comeback as its speed indication is less likely to be lost due to graffiti vandalism.
Locomotive History
45145 was originally numbered D128 and was built at Crewe works, entering traffic in November 1961. In 1973 the Midland Main Line services started to migrate from steam heating to electric heating of the coaching stock and D128 was one of fifty class 45 locomotives selected to have its Stone Vapour 4625 steam heating boiler replaced with electric train heating equipment (a Brush BL100-30 ETH auxiliary alternator) and emerged from Derby Works at the end of 1974 as 45145. It was to spend virtually its whole career on Midland Main Line duties being initially allocated to Derby, followed by Cricklewood and Toton where it would remain until its final transfer to Tinsley in November 1986. 45145 was withdrawn in February 1988 and was broken up by MC Metals, Glasgow in December 1991.
CSX 7115 leads M541, as they pass the L&N intermediate at Cynthiana, with a train of manifest for Waycross Georgia in tow. This train usually runs overnight, although the holiday the day before delayed the train to make a daylight appearance down the L&N to Corbin.
UP5657 leads a short train through a cut near the mouth of Bootlegger Canyon, near Moab, Utah. Just around the bend, about 300 feet behind the front of the train, the track crosses the trail that leads to Corona Arch.
The train departed Potash about five minutes earlier and is headed for Grand Junction, Colorado. It was late leaving Potash because a brake problem took a while to correct.

20302 leads a sister locomotive and a Class 37 working 6M60 the Seaton on Tees to Sellafield nuclear flask train on 17th June 2013. I have unfortunately not recorded the details of this so I don't know the identities of the other two locos. Location was Broomhaugh on the Tyne Valley line. Nine years on the lineside here is now much more foliated.

XP2012 leads the daylight Melbourne to Sydney XPT through Wingello.
Bushfires had ravaged through this area merely four days prior and destroyed multiple homes. The burnt area visible across the rail line was one of many properties lost in the fires. At the time of this photo, tree roots were still smouldering alongside the rail.

CTA car 5326 leads an out-of-service eight-car train from Howard Yard through Clark Junction, with the interlocking tower on the right. It arrived here on the outer express track normally used by Evanston trains, and is crossing over to the southbound Red Line track. To the left, the Ravenswood Branch (Brown Line) diverges. At Belmont station, the train will go into service as a Red Line run bound for downtown and 95th/Dan Ryan. A regular-service Red Line train waits behind, while signals beckon Red and Purple Line Express trains northward.
This was the first time I had seen a Red Line train begin its southbound run mid-route- something I assume is done to help ease crowding towards downtown Chicago during the morning rush.
Penn Central ex Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 leads an eastbound passenger train along the former New Haven Railroad right-of-way and past tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, early 1970's, Bob Hughes Photo. This train is heading to Pennsylvania Station in New York City. The first car on this train is one of the various versions of the PRR modified heavyweight P-70 series coaches. A consist of the former New Haven Railroad 4400 series Pullman Standard stainless steel lightweight multiple unit train cars sits on yard tracks to the right. You may view the fireman in his front window.
New Haven Railroad I-4 class ALCO 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive 1395, leads the 5 car Yankee Clipper at speed on the Shore Line through Leetes Island, Connecticut, 6-15-1937.
