Oh, how I love my new Capital range. Old house renos often come with bad surprises. I lucked out with a good one, finding a capped-off but still connected gas pipe in the corner of the room behind the old cabinets. Goodbye electric, we're cooking with gas!
5 exposure HDR photomatix. I was not able to get a good angle on this kitchen due to the hight of the counters so I used them to my advantage. I took the camera off the tri-pod and balanced it on the counter for this shot.
we're cooking lentil soup! what kills me about the whole bilingual thing is that even our stove has two words printed for each knob/button, with the exception of "selection". i love matching words in different languages!

This is the kitchen of the historic King-Cromartie house in Fort Lauderdale. Once the home of one of Fort Lauderdale's early settlers, it is now a museum.
cape town / langa - south africa 10/2010
listening to télépopmusik – breathe
Visiting the township of langa was a very interesting experience. While standing surprised in the door I was thinking about how strong they must be to live in these conditions and still finding enough power to develop and plan their future. What we see here is the former kitchen of a labour home which is rebuilt as a very small bedroom. Nevertheless I can say that this room was the best one i had seen in the house.
I know this is super wide, but I had my back up against a wall and the vendor requested I get the whole space in. And yes, that handle on the kitchen draw is really bugging me! Also, this is mostly flash, very little ambient. Reason being is that I am now limited with the amount of exposures I can do. Full disclosure, I did not blend this image, I only took the shot and made some final adjustments to the final blended image. Any feedback on the overall look? Too flashy?

Built under orders by Kitchener to supply the British Army in the war against the Mahdi in the late 19th century, when I visited the area between Wadi Haifa and Station 10 (where the Sudanese railroad branches), the railroad was disused. An employee, proud in his uniform, told me that trains would start again the next day. Given how many of the tracks were still covered by sand, I was not optimistic: however, the railroad did start again (months rather than hours later) in 2013.
