this is the kitchen area. cork floor tiles that i just loved. the cabinets were made by her nephew out of hackberry, a tree that grows locally in the swamps. the countertops are hackberry and honey locust. i love the glass blocks in the wall. those provide a little extra light into the utility room on the other side.

This is what i received from heather in the bits and pieces swap hosted by Jenny Holiday! She captured everything i love in the piece!
i arrived home today to a lovely package from new zealand! quiet cricket traded me one of her wonderful handmade bags for a knit hat... and here it is. very beautiful. you can see closer pics of it in her photo stream. i love the length of it when i put it around my body... not too short and not too long...perfect. i also love how thick the strap is- i'm already planning to wear it everyday this summer.
beings that today i put on everything that people gave me, i put it on over the dress that is over what i left my house wearing today. now i am multi layered, sitting here typing wearing the whole getup. the dress is from my friend sarah (schmidtly). she made it her senior year of high school, but it doesn't fit her anymore so i inherited it. you should have seen me thinking that i might not take it because it is synthetic... um... what about SARAH making this in high school did i not understand? plus the fact that she decided to give it to me is that not fabulous? what amazes me is that sarah grew up in japan and so this was made in japan. that part of her life seems so distant since i've only known her in vancouver. it's nice to have the link, plus super fun. high school was so strange and so long ago.
i am feeling so very blessed by all of these good friends who make and do great things. thanks!
No lights, no HDR, no multple images, no bracketing, no HDR. Just a simple single shot lit with sunshine and few hanging lamps.
Ahhhhhh... simplicity! ; )
The old mixer was donated by Will Bardahl McDaniel. This reminds me of the story that Elvis bought his mother two mixers so she would not have to walk across the kitchen. There is a photo of Gladys cutting fruit near the sink and window. The sink in this photo is a replacement. Photos of the kitchen show similar counter top and cabinets, but not exact. We think that Elvis had the kitchen remodeled before he moved to Graceland, but we don't have the photos to prove that.
One of 5 different angles of this kitchen, I found the lighting a bit strange, there were lots of lights but it wasn't very bright?

I just love the glass cabinets that show my gorgeous goblets I bought from Bergdorf Goodman in NYC years ago. They are hand-painted gold and from Italy. Also there is my pink toaster. The basket at the end of the counter is our bread basket. So cute. My husband loves our kitchen too being so light and airy, especially in the winter.

Garden in my Kitchen. A surreal version of a potager , a French term for an ornamental vegetable or kitchen garden. The historical design precedent is from the Gardens of the French Renaissance and Baroque Garden à la française eras. Often flowers (edible and non-edible) and herbs are planted with the vegetables to enhance the garden's beauty. The goal is to make the function of providing food aesthetically pleasing
This is the recent installment of my kitchen chalkboard. It includes two cartoons drawn by me, one above and one lower. The notes should explain things for you.
