This fitted kitchen dates from the early 1980s. Cupboards, wall tiles, floor covering and the decoration of the kitchen all compliment each other to achieve a 'total look'.

Fitted kitchens were first designed in the late 1950s. The cupboards are attached to the walls and the lower ones support the work-surfaces. Space has been made for hob, oven, and sink units to be included within the overall design.

There are many small electrical appliances, and these are now regarded as essential items for a kitchen. The microwave oven become popular in the early 1980s have been developed from the invention of radar in the Second World War.

[York Castle Museum]

Founded in 1938, York Castle Museum is housed in buildings that used to form the prisons.

The prison buildings were built throughout the c18th - the county jail between 1701-05 by William Wakefield, the Assize Courts between 1773-77 and Female Prison between 1780-83, both by John Carr (1723–1807). By the c19th these buildings were deemed unsuitable and a new prison, in a Tudor Gothic style, was designed by Peter F Robinson (1776–1858) and George Townsend Andrews (1804–55). York Prison was closed in 1929 and demolished in 1935, leaving behind Clifford's Tower and the c18th buildings which were then repurposed as the museum by Dr John Lamplugh Kirk (1869-1940).

We're redoing our kitchen. We've just put up metal sheets on the wall and on this portion of the counter.

When we moved into the flat in October 2006 it was all groovy and cool, except for the kitchen. We're finally getting around to renovating it.

My husband bought a great big rolling tool box for the shop a couple of weeks ago. It is very pretty. I have stolen it for my kitchen because it is too wonderful for the nasty auto shop and needs to be where it can be appreciated.

my hubby built this play kitchen for our niece's 5th birthday gift.

this is a shot of the sink. i hand painted all the flowers around the cake pan "sink". it turned out soooo cute!
