Approaching evening
At Towneley park

More rain is due this afternoon and evening. Why wouldn’t it?… I’ll be at the football!
Wood screws ….. no, they’re metal 👍

The Telegraph pole….
More pleasant than a pylon; there’s a certain beauty about timber.
Numbered and with a warning sign - Danger of death - Keep off. I’ve never needed the warning sign… I’ve naturally just kept off them.
I wouldn’t like to manual handle one, or be part of the team that erects them, I don’t know how far they go into the ground, but it must be quite a way.

THE LINE-GANG
Robert Frost
Here come the line-gang pioneering by.
They throw a forest down less cut than broken.
They plant dead trees for living, and the dead
They string together with a living thread.
They string an instrument against the sky
Wherein words whether beaten out or spoken
Will run as hushed as when they were a thought
But in no hush they string it: they go past
With shouts afar to pull the cable taut,
To hold it hard until they make it fast,
To ease away—they have it. With a laugh,
An oath of towns that set the wild at naught
They bring the telephone and telegraph.
The fruit looks a bit like a plum or damson

DEVOTION
The heart can think of no devotion
Greater than being shore to ocean -
Holding the curve of one position,
Counting an endless repetition.

I’m looking forward to the return of the greenery on the trees. It’s been long enough now.
I love it when everything starts to bud again, new shoots.

Last night we went to Liverpool to see OMD (Orchestral manoeuvres in the dark), at the Empire theatre.
It was the worst in music (the support act) and the best in music (OMD). I won’t name the support act, but I describe their music as art school crap. OMD were out of this world, and brought the house down; my wife was dancing, clapping, and singing in her seat.
On our way to the theatre I had to snap this scene whilst we were waiting for a cab.

……A theme shot taken on my phone in Shrewsbury and edited in Lightroom. When we were in town earlier in the week I saw this smiling statue by the library and thought she would be just perfect for the Smile on Saturday theme ‘high contrast portrait in B&W’ - Mary Webb was an English romance novelist and poet of the early 20th century and came from Shropshire.
