Illustrated is the new Arnold Clark concept for Skoda Edinburgh completed this week –13th January 2011. From a standing start Space Projects designed, detailed, contract managed and implemented this completely bespoke centre in twelve weeks including the stripping out of the existing structure.
From the bespoke rugs, chair materials, customer consultation areas, lighting specification, mechanical and electrical layouts, removing of the rear of the building to dealing with a seemingly impossible height issue towards the front of the property, all problems required quick practical head on thinking in order to deliver a trading unit to the client on time.
Splitting the unit on the diagonal coupled with the ramped entranceway deep into the retail space the customer is immediately greeted by an unusual, almost birds eye perspective of displayed vehicles upon arrival, making the transition into the space much more impactful than would normally be the case within a car showroom. The drama is further enhanced by an amphitheatre type staircase at the top of which cars are displayed in a fanned shaped pattern, feature car rotating in the background before then being bounced onto the reception desk, customer consultation areas and lounge area beyond. With hints and flashes of corporate green throughout the environment has been designed to be fresh, bright, modern, efficient, and customer friendly, and if a wait of any kind is required the rear of the unit has been opened up to offer an unrivalled 180° view of the firth of forth which we challenge any dealership to beat on any kind of day.

I grew up on a 40 acre farm in the '60's. We had a Farmall F-12 with 12 horsepower at the draw bar. We also used a converted horse drawn mower and dump rake. This kind of reminds me of those days and the folks that farmed here.

21 September 2017 - UNGA - Implementation of SDGs should be country-led and country-owned.
This high level side event organized at the helm of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly continues to advocate the nature of the 2030 Agenda—‘country-led and country-owned,’ as reflected during the UNDG high level event during the HLPF 2017 earlier this year.
UN Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed in her key note remarks stated, “We have hit the SDGs walking – not yet running – and we need to pick up the pace. Progress will only be achieved through genuine and meaningful partnerships.”
Host of the event, Mr. Achim Steiner, the UNDG Chair and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said, "In the SDGs we have found a common language in identifying the challenges and opportunities in development. We need new partnerships- we need investment bankers to work with rural farmers, policy makers with activists."
The side event also marked the launch of the 2016 UNDG results report: Lift Off: Agenda 2030—Shared Results of the UNDG in 2016. The new report captures the collective results and impact achieved by the UN Development System through 131 UN Country Teams supporting 165 countries and territories, as well as by the UNDG at the regional and global levels. The report is now available at undg.org

This is another one of those artifacts where I wanted to grab anyone around me and shake them while pointing frantically at this. I cannot believe this has come down to us from nearly 4,000 years ago. Artifacts like this make me feel so close to the humanity of the people from the era. Again, I feel as if the artist this belonged to had only gone away for a break and would be back at any moment to pick back up his work.

November 18, 2010 - "Roles for Third Parties in Improving Implementation of EPA's and OSHA's Regulations on the Management of Low-Probability, High-Consequence Process Safety Risks" - Penn Program on Regulation, in conjunction with the Wharton Risk Management Center, hosted a conference regarding the usage of third party auditors in the enforcement of regulatory safety measures in high risk industries. Industries which experts call "Low-Probability, High-Consequence," such as nuclear reactors, oil refineries, or chemical processing plants, are specifically hoped to be improved by third party inspections safety. The conference brought together numerous participants from a variety of fields, including from government, industry, insurance, academia, and non-profit sectors. The conference consisted of a day-long discussion spread over three separate panels. Over the course of the conference, participants stressed the importance of implementing a third party system to effectively and thoroughly audit industry despite lack of adequate funds and resources. Other potential scenarios offered for enacting effective third party auditing included making sure that these third party auditors were completely independent from the industries they would be inspecting so as to eliminate bias or a conflict of interest. Another issue to consider is the question of whose authority would the third party auditors be under and what kind of enforcement power would they have to enforce industry change. One of the panel discussions brought up the potential linkage of third party audits with insurance companies so as to provide an incentive for industry to decrease safety risks in order to pay lower insurance premiums. Workshop participants included Isadore "Irv" Rosenthal, a Senior Research Fellow at the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center; Howard Kunreuther, James G. Dinan Professor of Business and Public Policy at Wharton and Co-Director of the Wharton Risk Center; Laurie Miller, Senior Director of Environment and Process Safety at the American Chemistry Council; Erwann O. Michel-Kerjan, Managing Director of the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center; Scott Berger, Executive Director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; Don Nguyen, a Principal Process Safety Management Engineer at Siemens Energy, Inc.; Mike Marshall, Process Safety Management Coordinator at the Directorate of Enforcement Programs at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within the United States Department of Labor; Cary Coglianese, Edward B. Shils Professor of Law and Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Director of the Penn Program on Regulation; Bob Whitmore, Former Chief of OSHA Division of Recordkeeping at the United States Department of Labor; Jim Belke, Chemical Engineer at the Office of Emergency Prevention and Member of the Office of Chemical Preparedness within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); William Doerr, FM Global Research Area Director; Manuel Gomez, Director of Recommendations at the U.S. Chemical Safety Board; Tim Cillessen, Manager of Sales and Marketing at Siemens Energy, Inc.; Mike Wright, Director of Health, Safety, and Environment at United Steelworkers; Jennifer Nash, Affiliated Researcher of Nanotechnology and Society Research Group at Northeastern University and the Associate Director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government, Executive Director of Regulatory Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School of Government; Michael Perron, Senior Vice President of Willis Re New York.
Elizabeth, N.J., December 20, 2018 – Elmora School No. 12 has been selected as an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) National Demonstration School in an announcement made by AVID this afternoon.
According to AVID, School No. 12 is New Jersey’s first urban AVID National Demonstration School.
AVID is a research-based instructional model that encourages students to prepare for and participate in a challenging college preparatory curriculum and is implemented in more than 6,400 schools in 47 states across the U.S., plus schools in Department of Defense Education, Canada, and Australia. AVID impacts nearly 2 million students in grades K–12 and 50 postsecondary institutions.
The AVID team arrived at School No. 12 in the morning to take a school-wide tour and evaluate the school’s AVID program to determine whether it met the standards to become a national demonstration site.
School No. 12 has been building its AVID program since 2013. In June 2016, School No. 12 was among the schools throughout the country to be selected as an AVID Showcase School for AVID’s Fall 2016 showcase schedule, at which a presentation was given on School No. 12’s AVID implementation. Visitors, including educators from throughout New Jersey, engaged in conversations with students about WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading) strategies and observed students’ participation in Philosophical Chairs and Socratic Seminars on controversial topics.
On July 19, Elmora School No. 12 Vice Principal Melissa Kulick was given the prestigious honor to present the keynote address during the General Session at the 2018 AVID Summer Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Summer Institute is AVID’s annual professional learning event where districts come to learn the latest in AVID methodologies and strategies to successfully implement AVID in their schools.
Kulick shared School No. 12’s journey in becoming an AVID Demonstration Site with participants representing districts throughout the Northeast. She reflected on a moment when she recognized that AVID was going to be successful at School No. 12
“…I walked into a seventh grade AVID class and overheard a student say to peers, ‘Let’s collaborate before we decide which topic to side with,’” said Kulick. “She pointed to the classroom WICOR poster as if it was this powerful weapon. At that moment, something clicked within me. I knew that AVID was beginning to take hold.”
As she further described how the AVID program was taking shape at School No. 12, she said she was reminded “that urban learners are more than capable, can think critically, and college should and must be a part of their future.”
The AVID Team that conducted the evaluation agreed with her assessment of the success that was taking place throughout the AVID program at School No. 12 and provided validation that college education should and must be a part of the future for students in urban schools.
“We are pleased to announce and welcome Elmora School No. 12, Elmora University, as an AVID National Demonstration School,” said AVID Demonstration Coach Tamara Gilliam.
“Realize that you are now officially a teaching and learning center for all of the AVID world,” added Gilliam.
AVID has been an important part of the curriculum at Elizabeth Public Schools for the past decade and has been instrumental in the district increasing the number of students participating in postsecondary education after graduation.
“We are proud of Elmora School No. 12 for being a shining example of the AVID program, which aligns so well with our district goals,” stated Hugelmeyer. “The lessons and skills provided to our students through the AVID program are invaluable in our efforts to prepare each of our students for a college education and a successful career.”
“The students and staff at Elmora School No. 12 have been highly committed to advancing the AVID program over the past several years and today their dedication and determination has been rewarded,” said Elizabeth Board of Education President Maria Carvalho. “Congratulations to the Elmora School No. 12 learning community for this tremendous honor, you truly deserve it.”
