Dear Mr Pugh,

I hope you are well and enjoyed your weekend. I understand that you may have rung earlier with regards to offensive graffiti at Romily Place. I apologize that the graffiti is still present.

I just wanted to inform you that a graffiti removal team attended to the property on 29 September 2011, but unfortunately a disclaimer was unable to be signed, which we need to carry out work on private property. However, the builder working on the property at the time informed us that he would look to remove the graffiti after speaking to the owners, and would contact Cardiff Council if there were any problems.

Thank you very much for bringing to our attention that it is still present, we will attempt to contact the owners to establish if they would like us to remove the graffiti for them. Due to the offensive nature of it, we will make this a priority.

I once again apologize for the delay in attending to your issue.

Best wishes,

Alex

A campaign to remove visual litter (graffiti and tags) from our streets.

The trouble with tagging and graffiti is it's like over-littered areas and readily gets added to.

"It's there already, so it doesn't matter if I do it!"

We've become so used to seeing it that we stop acknowledging it's presence and start perceiving it as normal and acceptable.

Visual litter will remain as a recurrent and accumulative issue on our streets if it's not removed as quickly as possible by councils, private businesses or the willing community.

It will remain a cyclic issue, perpetuating the degradation of the quality of our community's environment.

Councilors often like to gain political favor by the removal of graffiti, time and time again, without ever addressing the preventative measures of education.

This will remain a cyclic issue, perpetuating the degradation of the quality of our community's environment if these preventative measures are not put in place!

The Canton Green Party suggests running relevant mentor led projects within our schools and communities.

Organizations like: "Peaceful Progress" a Cardiff based Graffiti Arts Group

web site- www.peacefulprogress.co.uk

Or CRUELVAPOURS

Who are a professional aerosol art company based in Cardiff.

Teaching in schools and youth centres across south wales as well as producing high quality murals for private and commercial clients.

They are currently on the outlook for public problem walls, especially graffiti vandalism or fly-postering.

So far they have tackled a few problem areas in Roath where fly posters and graffiti was a problem, since they have created their artwork on the walls, all vandalism has stopped.

Their service is free of charge as long as the wall is situated in a high visibility area and that their artists have artistic license over the content of the mural.

Please check out their work via their photo stream on flickr or visit their websites:

cruelvapours.com/

Organizations such as this and others, could, would and do instill

"A right time, right place ethos".

Please Send photos of "Syx 10" or "Syks" from around Cardiff.

Please email any information and photos to nige@nigelpugh.co.uk (jpegs med size)

I will collate them and present them to the Cardiff City Council with the view to the removal of, and the stemming of the continual visual littering of our communities.

Mentor systems will always have longer term solutions. And lets stem this recurrent issue, of which Councilors love to gain favor with.

NB: The Canton Green Party in no way advocates "tagging or graffiti" without the permission of public or private property owners.

Kavalcare Solar System for Jhpiego Mid-Wife Clinic Dec8, 2014

Every year, 12,000 women in Pakistan die of birth complications. The Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services Component, implemented by MCHIP/Jhpiego, aims at preventing maternal, newborn, and child deaths by ensuring skilled birth attendance (SBA) through a total market approach, empowered community, timely referral of obstetric and neonatal complications to an emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility, and improved access to child care.

Lack of electricity in remote areas is a major issue that often leads to obstetric complications and newborn deaths. Refrigerated storage is vital for the effectiveness of life saving drugs and vaccines. Ice boxes are used in remot areas of this purpose but it is an ineffective method especially when easy availability of ice is a problem. To overcome these issues, Lodhie Foundation in association with Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program/JHPIEGO, extended its Kavalcare program and provided a Solar Powered System to a remote clinic located at village Haji Usman Jhakro near Makli, District Thatta. System provides sufficient power to operate a small refrigerator, a fan and 3 lamps 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was designed, manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies private Limited Karachi. After installation of Solar System in August 2014, this small remote clinic is serving a community of 10,000 plus persons who lives in village Haji Usman and surrounding areas. On an average 10 patients visits this clinic each day. Clinic also provides up to 15 birth attendance and new born care in a month.

Barn and Hay making implements.(beside the Pennine way)

Top right is a Hay Knife for cutting the hay and bottom right is a long handled hook for cutting reeds and rushes.

The fields at Hannah's Meadow were farmed by Hannah Hauxwell using traditional methods, without the use of artificial fertilisers. The meadows are species rich and are home to many breeding birds such as lapwing, redshank, meadow pipit and skylark. There are abundant flowering plants including globeflower, wood anemone and adder's tongue fern. One of the barns has been converted to an un-manned visitors centre with displays and information.

This multi-lingual smoking sign was implemented as a part of College Housing Northwest's Clean Air Campaign in the Goose Hollow student housing community. Designed by local artist and designer Phelps Witter IV exclusively for College Housing Northwest, the sign was printed on durable materials and posted in more than 25 prominent common area locations throughout the 339-unit community. The same design was also printed on durable 4in x 4in stickers that were placed in all units as a part of the campaign. Translated to into Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Spanish, the sign recognizes the diversity of the Goose Hollow Community and represents the top five languages spoke by tenants. Pictorial representations of the prohibition of hookah, cigarettes and e-cigarettes, and marijuana recognize the reality of smoking in college housing communities and demonstrate awareness that cigarette smoking is not the only problematic form of smoking non-compliance. These pictorial elements also assure that tenants whose first language is not represented in the text of the sign are still able to access information about the community's smoking polices. In addition to the sign and in order to accomplish the goals of the campaign, which were to increase resident awareness of smoking policies and reduce the number of staff witnessed and student reported smoking in the building, the community's smoking policies and consequences for violation were also translated into the top five languages spoken in the community. This translated document is given to all students at move in and explained by leasing staff. The same translated document is given to students found in violation by RAs who respond to after-hours calls for smoking. Residents report that since the Clean Air Campaign their community does indeed have cleaner air and program staff note an increased ability to share important policy information across language barriers.

Skeleton Crew Studio. They make very pretty items under license. The off-license stuff -- like the Thor hammers and Dr. Strange's Eye of Agamotto -- are one-offs that they make for fun. And to show off what they can do, I reckon.

It's remarkable how far the field of one-off fabrication has come, isn't it? These guys run their shop as a business. But even just the hobbyist has incredible tools for casting, plating, even 3D CNC.

I went to a ranch and farm auction on Saturday. It was an interesting experience and I actually had fun. The bizarre range of tools to be attached to tractors boggles my mind and I found them fascinating to look at.

Encouraging Afghans to take part in the upcoming elections, calling on the Afghan security forces to secure the polls, asking the country’s two election management bodies to fully implement recommendations to improve the voting process and urging responsible actions from the candidates and their supporters – these were some of the key messages of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ján Kubiš, at a news conference in the capital, Kabul, today, ahead of the country’s second round run-off Presidential elections set to take place this Saturday. “Afghanistan is heading for one of the most important days in the modern history of the country: the run-off Presidential elections on the 14th of June,” Mr. Kubiš said. “I am convinced that next Saturday, the people of Afghanistan will – with the same determination, resilience and courage [shown in the first round of elections] – manifest their wish for a peaceful, prosperous, stable and united Afghanistan.” The Afghan Presidential elections, which mark the first-ever transfer of power from one elected leader to another in the country’s history, are in a run-off stage after none of the candidates in the first round of the vote, held on 5 April, achieved the 50 per cent plus one result needed to win. Two leading candidates from that round are competing in the second round run-off.
