Hunting Island Lighthouse in Hunting Island State Park on Hunting Island South Carolina. It was re-built and first lit in 1875 and stands 136 Feet Tall. Originally built 1836 but destroyed in the Civil War.
The Hunting Island lighthouse was originally constructed in 1859 and is the only lighthouse in the state of South Carolina that is open to the public. A unique feature of this lighthouse is that it was constructed using cast iron plates and designed to be dismantled in case it ever needed to be relocated. In 1869, due to erosion of the beach in 1889, the lighthouse was moved inland 1 1/4 miles from its original site to where it presently stands.
Bobcat (Lynx rufus) hunting in Andrew Molera State Park, Big Sur, California. We were informed by park staff that a pair of bobcats had a new litter of kits and were actively hunting in the park much of the day.
Puffin hunting was a matter of survival for the first Icelandic people. They use to eat the dry meat from the puffins in winter when the sea was too rough to fish. Nowadays it is different. Some hunters hunt for the sport, others for money.
Snail Kite (female)
Rostrhamus sociabilis plumbeus
Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge
On a foggy Christmas morning back in 2005, I shot this image of a female Snail Kite hunting over the marsh in Compartment C-7 of the Marsh Trail at ARMLNWR. The original image was dark, lacked contrast, and had a lot of sensor noise. I kept it nonetheless since I liked the composition and it was one of my very first images of a Snail Kite. I've processed the original RAW file many times over, but only recently finally got the results I wanted.
