This morning I woke up to a real treat. Three great egrets stopped in to rest and get a bite to eat from the pond.
Golden-mantled ground squirrel on Bear's Hump in Waterton Lakes National Park, on the hunt for delicacies left behind by tourists.
Along the coast, many brown bears (Ursus actos) hunt for the clams uncovered during low tides. They probably use all of their senses to find them as they walk around with their nose close the ground.Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, Lake Clark National Park on the coast of Cook Inlet. Alaska. Off to the Harz Mountains over Christmas. And there was snow, even if it wasn't quite a lot, at least it was a wintry atmosphere.
Über Weihnachten ab in den Harz. Und es lag Schnee, auch wenn es nicht ganz viel war, so war es wenigstens eine winterliche Stimmung.
THE FIRST SHOT OF A SERIES of images of a lioness in the late afternoon in Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa.
She had left the other lionesses of her pride and was was slowly walking while listening and looking in all directions.
We also could hear some wildebeest not too far away and she started to look intently in that direction.
Unfortunately for us the vegetation in that area looked quite dense so I was afraid that there would be no photo opportunities.....

A strategically planned family weekend led to Orgéo, along the beautiful Athus-Meuse line. We stayed at walking distance from the famous spot. After careful investigation of the hunting planning, I concluded it to be safe to go out shooting myself. Subject was the container shuttle connecting Antwerp and the TCA terminal in Athus. In very soft autumn light, 186 123 and 186 215 lead a southbound train. It was one of the few trains to be seen on the line during this quiet armistice weekend.

A Northern Shrike perched high on a sunny spot ever watching carefully for unsuspecting prey.
If you didn't know what a Northern Shrike was, you may think it is a cute, medium-sized song bird. The Northern Shrike is in fact a small, fierce hunter cloaked in grey, black and white plumage.
Shrikes hunt voles, small songbirds and large insects. They hunt from perches, descending upon prey and then use their strongly hooked bill to sever the spinal cord between the neck and head.
Shrikes are know to keep a cache of food, impaling birds, voles and insects o branches, barbed wire or thorns. This unique way of storing food is why Northern Shrikes are also called by some "butcher birds".
Not many birds as mesmerising to watch as a Barn Owl hunting.
Hope to be able to get out there again soon - or find some nearer to home.
Taken in Norfolk.
The 2 Male Cheetahs crossing the Nossob River bed and then walked right through Rooiputs camp while we were camping there. These 2 predators preferred hunting late afternoon and here was no exception..They were tailing a large herd of Springbok. Kalahari at its best
Peter and Oleg are egg hunting in the garden.
PETER:
Wow! The basket is almost full Oleg!
I see one more! It's a red one! That's for Rosie!
OLEG:
I see it too!
They both run to the egg and try to get it.
OLEG:
Ouch! You got my nose instead of the egg Peter.
PETER:
Sorry Oleg...I didn't see it. The egg is red and so is your nose.
(Peter kisses Oleg on the nose)
OLEG:
It's all right....you have the egg for Rosie and that's more important.
PETER:
I love you Oleg...I really do.
OLEG:
And I love you Peter
Happy Easter
Two grizzly bears (ursus arctos horribilis) hunting sockeye salmon in the mouth of a stream flowing into Knights Inlet, in British Columbia, Canada. One of the bears is hunting more actively than the other, even though he has a meal in his mouth!

A Wattle Bird in my garden - a moment after I pressed the shutter it flew up and caught a spider in the gutter two-storeys directly above. Amazing eyesight these birds have.
