Hunting Island Lighthouse in Hunting Island State Park on Hunting Island South Carolina. It was re-built and first lit in 1875 and stands 136 Feet Tall. Originally built 1836 but destroyed in the Civil War.

The Hunting Island lighthouse was originally constructed in 1859 and is the only lighthouse in the state of South Carolina that is open to the public. A unique feature of this lighthouse is that it was constructed using cast iron plates and designed to be dismantled in case it ever needed to be relocated. In 1869, due to erosion of the beach in 1889, the lighthouse was moved inland 1 1/4 miles from its original site to where it presently stands.

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge

On a foggy Christmas morning back in 2005, I shot this image of a female Snail Kite hunting over the marsh in Compartment C-7 of the Marsh Trail at ARMLNWR. The original image was dark, lacked contrast, and had a lot of sensor noise. I kept it nonetheless since I liked the composition and it was one of my very first images of a Snail Kite. I've processed the original RAW file many times over, but only recently finally got the results I wanted.

The slow speed lift of the H126 was achieved with a technology called "jet flaps". The same technique was used considerably later by Antonov with the AN-72 and by McDonald-Douglas with the C-17 and is now know as "blown flaps".

Volunteers discussing issues during the new find of Orange Hawkweed. Hunting Hawkweed in Kosciuszko National Park in 2013. Volunteers have assisted in finding 47 new infestations of Orange Hawkweed. The good news is that the finds are within and adjacent to existing infestations and populations are small.
