I bought a machine to make yogurt. I thought it would be super easy (stir, pour into machine, wait 10 hours). It turns out to be only easy (boil milk, let it cool to the exact temperature, add starter, pour into machine, wait 10 hours). Easy, yes, but boiling and cooling is kind of a pain.
It turned out a little too runny, so I think I need to increase the time some.

HOMEMADE - "WITH LOVE FOR THANKSGIVING"
Thanksgiving & Homemade - What does that mean?
Thanksgiving Day is national public holiday in Canada.
To me its all about my Family. I am so " Thankful" for them. My three lovely children, Lisa, Samantha, her boyfriend Karol and Eric ,his wife Jennifer and their two daughters, my grandchildren Ava and Julie, my two step-sons, Shaun and Scott, Shaun's wife Lisa , Scott's girlfriend Kayla and my husband Rob.
We celebrate Thanksgiving as most do in Canada and of course we enjoy Stuffed Turkey with all the trimmings. Stuffing being my favorite, along with carrots, mashed potatoes , gravy, pork buns and cranberry sauce.
It would not be complete without desert.
Hmmmmm, which brings me to our theme "HOMEMADE"
My daughter Samantha is a baker and her talents bring love to our family each time we celebrate a special occasion. These lovely cupcakes are decorated for Thanksgiving, You can see in the photo a turkey with the bones, mashed potatoes with the butter sticks and gravy, Peas and carrots, stuffing, yam, blueberry and strawberry pie. So cute to look at , so good to eat.
My son Eric has his talents as well. He is a certified carpenter with his red seal. But when he was younger he thought he would be a chef. He loves to bake with his children and this weekend Ava, Julie and Eric decided to bake pies. A most delicious pumpkin pie and a rhubarb strawberry pie.
Sitting around our dinner table we enjoyed our homemade deserts and I admired my family to which I am blessed.

The native peoples of the Americas held ceremonies and festivals to celebrate the completion and bounty of the harvest long before European explorers and settlers arrived in what is now Canada. Early European thanksgivings were held to give thanks for some special fortune. An early example is the ceremony the explorer Martin Frobisher held in 1578 after he had survived the long journey in his quest to find a northern passage from Europe to Asia.
Many thanksgivings were held following noteworthy events during the 18th century. Refugees fleeing the civil war in the United States brought the custom of an annual thanksgiving festival to Canada. From 1879, Thanksgiving Day was held every year but the date varied and there was a special theme each year. The theme was the "Blessings of an abundant harvest" for many years. However, Queen Victoria's golden and diamond jubilees and King Edward VII's coronation formed the theme in later years.
From the end of the First World War until 1930, both Armistice Day and Thanksgiving Day were celebrated on the Monday closest to November 11, the anniversary of the official end of hostilities in World War I. In 1931, Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day and Thanksgiving Day was moved to a Monday in October. Since 1957, Thanksgiving Day has always been held on the second Monday in October.
Symbols
Thanksgiving Day in Canada is linked to the European tradition of harvest festivals. A common image seen at this time of year is a cornucopia, or horn, filled with seasonal fruit and vegetables. The cornucopia, which means "Horn of Plenty" in Latin, was a symbol of bounty and plenty in ancient Greece. Turkeys, pumpkins, ears of corn and large displays of food are also used to symbolize Thanksgiving Day.
I made this completely from scratch and dudes, it was so easy!
I used this recipe (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/michael-chiarello/homemade-tomato-soup-recipe/index.html) as the base to get my ratios right but kinda winged it overall.
It's garnished with fresh basil and thin slices of sungold tomato.

I decided to try making homemade vanilla. I used a kit from Chinaberry to get started. For the alcohol, I used locally distilled Cold River Vodka. It should be ready to use in four weeks.

It was fun! I was asked by my daughter to make some sweets with chocolate. I think it's my first trial of making sweets. Not bad.

Many years ago patterns were sold for Dawn clothes. I got the patterns a whlie back but never got around to making anything. Then a few months ago I found several sets of homemade clothes made from these patterns. These are some of them. :) Left to right, Pippa, a customized curly-haired Emma (by me), and Mandy are all modeling them.
Since Pippa's more of an everyday gal, they look best on her and her friends. I will try modeling clothes on all different kinds of Dawns, Pips, Starrs, etc. so you can see how they look.
I took this while on vacation in July, and stored the dolls & clothes in one of my Dawn cases.
