we fired up the bread oven this afternoon for some home made pizzas. A great way to spend an afternoon between Christmas and New year with friends! 8-)
Home-cooked shrimp scampi, deep fried shrimp heads, sautéed zucchini & cherry tomatoes, side of steamed kale & garlic (not pictured).
Noodles, field mushrooms, grilled asparagus, bok choi, garlic, spring onions, garlic and ginger + carrots stir fried in sesame oil with mirin, soy and sesame seeds + jasmine tea.
This lovely meal was prepared by North.
- simmered daikon radish and scallops
- simmered pumpkins
- sweetened red kidney beans
- broccoli and carrot salad
- eggplant miso soup
My cousin typically hosts a family meal around Christmas. This year, we had it just before Christmas as one of my aunts was leaving for Canada the following week. It was truly an excellent meal...
This is just a simple sugar cookie recipe with some very vivid food coloring mixed in...I think they look like something little boys and girls would eat in a Dr Seuss story. Juni left these out for Santa at Christimas this year. He ate them all, of course.
Fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, olives in herbes de Provence. For the record, we don't have a panini maker - I just used our cast iron grill pan and our regular c.o. skillet as a press.
Used Zaro's ciabatta dredged in eggs beaten with Haitian rum, heavy cream and sugar. The cream had the rum, sugar and vanilla. Fresh blueberries. Yum!

PS. Could also be considered vegan, actually.
Stir-fried soy bean sprouts [da dou ya] is a dish I have eaten since young. Because the rarity of seeing this veggie from the fresh markets and supermarket, it almost erased from my memory. While I always look for vegetables I have in my list when I shop, ER has a pair of keener eyes on other stuffs. He sported it and so we bought half a kilo.
The roots were plucked before use; stir frying is the only way I know.
