I improvised a pork brown rice congee (porridge). Yesterday I boiled then roasted some ribs, then removed the meat and simmered the bones for hours, along with a couple of leeks and brown rice. Tonite I sautéed some ginger, a torpedo onion, and shiitakes, added them to the porridge, re-added the chopped rib meat, and simmered some more. Served with a splash of arbequina olive oil and fresh chives. Comfort food for a winter night.

..sometimes I can't resist taking a picture of kitchen creations :)

I love this recipe from The Farm Vegetarian Cookbook; esp. because it doesn't require any exotic ingredients. I could make these at any house in the country w/o a trip to the store!

ever since I discovered that the market downstairs stocks fresh clams, I've been on a roll. here's clams in slightly spicy martini-based (ran out of white wine so any alcohol goes) sauce with cilantro and spring onion. it's easy to make and so yummy.

I love making breads better than any other type of cooking. I've been making breads since I was a teenager (that's many decades ago). I never use recipes since I've been doing so for so long.

This bread, with 6 eggs & the addition of soy flour & wheat germ makes for a source of complete protein in the diet. Besides, adding some soy flour makes for a much richer, just slightly nuttier flavour. To me, baked goods with no soy flour added taste bland & flat.
