Taken during a peaceful weekend with our children, from the second-floor veranda of our living-in centre near the coast, which is surrounded by the Atlantic Rainforest and visited daily by these friendly little monkeys called White-tufted-ear marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) or Sagüi-de-tufo-branco.

LDN1355, the ’Helping Hand’ Nebula in Cassiopeia, together with neighbouring LDN1357 and LDN1358 are areas of dark nebulosity in he constellation of Cassiopeia. Below of the “palm” of the helping hand is a blue reflective nebula (VdB 9) which is illuminated by the star SU Cas. Towards middle bottom edge of the image there is another reflective nebula VdB 7 with a hint of red & blue, surrounding a variable star RZ Cas. However, RZ Cas is not the source of the illumination for VdB 7; rather it is illuminated by a much dimmer 11th mag star nearby.

All editing done with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and the Noiseware Community Edition.

I started this edit by rotating clockwise just a bit. After rotating, I used Image>Resize>Scale to recompose the shot. I felt the pom pom was too close to the edge of the frame and thought it detracted rather than added to the shot.

Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels

I auto adjusted and then adjusted the middle shadow slider to brighten it up a bit more.

Then I used the virtualPhotographer plug-in and chose the childhood preset.

After this I brought the edit into Noiseware and used the portrait preset to remove the noise.

... I'll never, ever 'bin' it.

This brave, old blind veteran of the Royal Corps of Signals has for many years insisted on marching in Liverpool's Remembrance Sunday parade.

Seen above, he is marching at the city's (2017) annual commemorative event while being guided and supported by a Sgt Major/Warrant Officer of his old regiment. A huge mark of respect and an honour indeed. Such is the esteem in which this particular old soldier is obviously held.

Bless 'em both!

P.S. Thanks to fellow Flickrite Mike McFall, I learned today 12/11/18 that this old soldier's name is Les, and that Mike has ensured Les' family now have a copy of this image.

Many tourists and visitors (especially young backpackers) spend their time helping at various orphanges and schools all over Cambodia.

In the last few months I was fortunate enough to meet many wonderful individuals wth really big hearts. Most of them help for a few days to a few weeks with various activities including teaching, helping with construction, raising funds and spending quality time with the children.

This was shot at the Riverside Promanade and features the kids from NOC orphanage with a few volunteers.

(Explored on 4th April 2008)
