How Is It Like for Refugees to Get Legal Aid in Greece?

Contacting the lawyer assigned to my case at the Evelpidon Court proved to be a challenging six-month ordeal, requiring the involvement of the Athens Bar Association and two in-person visits to their office, due to their lack of response to my earlier written complaints.

Three postponements of the trial have been caused by my request for legal aid, which was a response to the unjustified claims made against me by the Police following my removal from the European Commission’s office in Athens last November.

Once the lawyer was found, the Athens Bar Association facilitated a meeting at the Court where he received the case file and agreed to represent me solely for this particular case, without any involvement in previous or future cases.

Currently, we await the defense's success in proving my innocence during our June 15th, 2023 court hearing to avoid any potential incarceration resulting from unsubstantiated claims.

Both edits done in Lightroom. Here are my basic steps:

Straightened the photo making the wooden bar level, cropped slightly to bring the hat to the left edge.

Used the clone/heal tool to clean up the crumbs/spots around her mouth and the dark spot on her hat.

Applied preset Vintage Blue

Adjusted exposure to 0.51

Adjusted brightness to 43

Reduced luminance smoothing to 55 and color noise reduction to 68

Added an adjustment brush set to Iris Enhance selecting her eyes

Removed the vignette that was added in the preset and then used adjustment brush to lighten the upper left corner of the hat and darken the portion above her forehead.

Adjusted the Shadow Hue slightly to adjust the color

Added a Dodge adjustment just under her lips as it was a bit dark.

For the black & white, I started with the color edit and converted to b&w, adjusting the Shadow Hue and Contrast until I got tones I liked. Set the Point Curve to Strong Contrast

Adjusted contrast, fill light, and recovery until I liked the results.

This year our volunteer project involved renovating and upgrading Las Tres Piezas Elementary School in a remote, rural and impoverished area of the Dominican Republic. The 1-room school was given an extensive makeover and now has new paint, a new volleyball / soccer field and related equipment, new picnic tables, secure fencing and a real bathroom with toilets, sinks and running water (the kids used to have a 1-hole outhouse and no water at all). Our group also donated a ton of school supplies.

All too frequently in tourist destinations, the only thing the local population ever gets to see are rich, fat Americans getting drunk and lounging on the beach in total luxury. I don't mind being part of that too, as it does help drive the country's economy, but I also feel strongly about giving back directly to those who are much less fortunate. Tourist dollars don't do much for places out in the boonies, far away from the fancy hotels and resorts. Working on projects like this makes you feel you're really doing some good for the world and makes one grateful for what we often take for granted in the US. Pleading with South Africa for Mediation and Urgent Humanitarian Relief.

As to the best of my knowledge so far neither the #Japanese nor the #Indian embassy have agreed to play a mediating role in finding a resolution to this ongoing Hostage taking and my complete deprivation in Greece, I was left with no other choice but to approach and ask other countries to help.

Hence, following two of my earlier emails to them, I went to the embassy of #SouthAfrica last Wednesday to plead for their help in person too.

Unlike all the other embassies I have visited thus far, some of them even for years, I was received in a very civilized manner at their embassy and was also able to convey my request to them through two embassy officials there.

Accordingly, they agreed to arrange an appointment with their Ambassador for me after studying my emails in-depth.

Duplicated the background layer, applied a high pass filter set to Overlay and masked out her skin

Add Levels adjustment layer, brought the whites and midtones up

Add a second Levels adjustment layer, brought the blacks up and then masked out her face to brighten it back up

Import to Lightroom 3

Applied preset Wheat Field

Adjusted the Luminance Smoothing and Color Noise Reduction...brought them down significantly

Adjusted the saturation of the Split Toning slightly

Reduced the exposure just slightly

How Is It Like for Refugees to Get Legal Aid in Greece?

Seeking resolution for my prolonged captivity and deprivation in Greece, I visited the European Commission office in Athens on November 24th last year. Unfortunately, the visit resulted in my wrongful detainment and baseless accusations.

Trials postponed thrice by Court's failure to fulfill legal aid request and provide lawyer's contact. Despite obtaining contact details afterwards, the lawyer remained unresponsive and my complaints to the Athens Bar Association proved ineffective.

The Court refused my request for a new lawyer and suggested that I seek assistance from the Athens Bar Association instead. It took me six months to contact the lawyer, and only with their aid was I able to do so after visiting them in person twice.

At last the lawyer was found, and he agreed to represent me. We are currently anticipating our forthcoming court hearing on June 15th, 2023.

Stormtrooper Bruce decided to get an early start on decorating his quarters for the holidays. His friends are always volunteering to help out when ever he needs it, but their assistance is spotty at best.

TK-1110: I can't believe we were actually able to sneak this tree out of Paltatines Botanical Gardens without anyone stopping us. How lucky is that!

STB: I do this every year. I just tell the guards Palpatine sent me to pick up a tree for his quarters, and no one ever questions me.

TK-1110: Well, you could have picked a smaller one, my back is killing me.

STB: How was I supposed to know all the antigrav transporters would be in use?

TK-432: These cookies are great, but where's the pizza? You know we can't watch a movie without real food.

STB: Pizza? Is that all you can think about? You hardly lifted a finger tonight.

TK-430: Ok, then I made sure the coast was clear. Last thing we wanted to do was run into Vader or Palpatine with stolen merchandise.

STB: Actually, that happened the first year I did this. Vader was patrolling the hallways, and I told him Palpatine was sending the tree as a Secret Sith gift for his quarters. Vader said he was alergic and I could keep it as long as I never told anyone. So now that's my backup story when ever I'm caught.

Even though the storm has passed, the recovery from Hurricane Matthew continues. Many of us were extremely lucky to receive only minor damage but not all of our neighbors were as fortunate. As part of the effort to help, Team Rubicon has been working with recruits from the Virginia Beach Fire Department in this home in Windsor Woods to facilitate their recovery.
