Charlie is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She's a bit bug-eyed, snaggle toothed, and clumsy, but she's fun :-).
i love my new little camera - though its portability does increase the chance of me taking slightly drunken shots :)
we're just back from a short break in brussels - it's a fantastic place, and i have about a squillion photos to sort through (mostly of the v shiny atomium and, erm, beer - somethings never change, eh!) but i've been feeling v out of sorts this week so haven't had chance to do this yet.
well, off to orlando on sunday for a conference, so will hopefully be able to take advantage of jet lag and travel time to catch up on some flickring :)
Handheld off of a hotel balcony.
Wait, look at the top of the page.... did Flickr just change the spelling to Flicker?? Does this mean that I need to change my username?
... okay it was just an April Fools thing!
Great thanks to my friend Dmitry who gave me
a nice chance to testdrive Canon EF 16-35 mm F/2.8 L II USM
After feeling under the weather for a day and a half, I decided on a Sunday afternoon and evening to take a walk to see if the fresh air would do me some good.
I also decided to take the 'kill or cure' route of lugging the 600 f4 with me and try to get some wildlife - bit of an epic fail, the effort of carting the lens meant I puffed and wheezed and frightened everything for about a mile around out of it's wits.
So as I was calling it a day and started back to the car, I looked up and saw part of the horizon showing the first glimpses of some glorious colour. Needing no second invitation to take a breather I sat down to watch it develop, all the time wishing that I had decided on landscape rather than wildlife photography for the evening, when suddenly inspiration hit...
Why - Shoot landscapes only with a wide-angle lens and tripod at low ISO? Let's break a rule or two...
Why - Not shoot a silhouette landscape involving yet another pylon or mast? (I know - they are a failing of mine - like Mike and his bricks!)
Why - Not be creative instead of straight-laced and hidebound and make the most of what we had at the time it was of use - after all, the colour would have been well gone by the time I got my 24-105 in my hot and sweaties!
And so - here it is - a handheld landscape at 800 ISO of a couple of communication masts in gorgeous light taken from over a kilometre away with a 600mm F4 at f13 with IS on - make of it what you will, I rather like it!
