Turns out you can actually handhold a compact with an f3.5 lens and 400 speed film without too much trouble at night. The bus is blurry obviously but the rest is reasonably sharp.
I tried this one out hand held to see how well the IS would work. The hard part is keeping your position steady. It is easy to move backwards and forwards throwing the subject out of focus.

used the colorsliders in bw-mode in lightroom quite a lot on this. first time i played around with those *g*

Hmm. Next time I do HDR, I'm not using handheld pictures :) The high ISO noise and misalignment kind of ruins the effect.
I tried to create an HDR image without the "overprocessed" look that's currently popular - I just want to show you what I could see with my eyes, but which the camera couldn't do.

There were about 20 or so of these bright blue dragonflies by the lake. Unfortunately I didn't have my tripod and they moved pretty fast. Loved the colour (not the focus) so had to post it.
