Ran into a beautiful fireworks display at Tivoli Hotel in Copenhagen last night, unfortunately I had to shoot handheld through a window - ended up OK though I think, more to come
Some test shots I took last month, right after getting my D300s, to see how it handled low-light situations.
Shot was handheld, used only available light, with camera set to auto-ISO in most cases. This is the in-camera JPG; no edits. The light source shining "through" the drink is from a small LED flashlight, sitting behind the paper lantern and pointing toward the glass.

The Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower has been a Baltimore landmark since its construction in 1911 as the tallest building in the city. The tower was built by Capt. Isaac Emerson, the inventor of the headache remedy Bromo-Seltzer, and designed by Joseph Evans Sperry (also designer of the Brewers Exchange). It once adjoined Emerson's Bromo-Seltzer factory, but the factory is no longer standing.

With a tripod, the light lines would all be pretty much horizontal. Not as hard as it looks (or at least I hope that's true).
