Severe Warnings popped up for this lone cell by Oconto Nebraska with a nice TVS marker just south of the city. It was my calling to get my gear together and make a small jaunt north on Hwy 2 from Kearney Nebraska. This storm was to be in the Miller Nebraska (northwest of Kearney) area within the hour and I wasn't going to miss this show when its this close to home.

 

No other chasers on this storm and it was just this lone thunderstorm and me! Beautiful LP structure with clearly visible rotation on this storms' time lapse. Couldn't have asked for a better landscape setup with the pure flatness of northern part of South Central Nebraska.

 

Storm died out as this storm cell scooted almost directly due east it still had some luster left in her and she was showing off. Beautiful billowing thunderheads to end this chase day!

Kruispoort, Brugge

 

Kruispoort or "Cross Gate" is the best preserved among Brugge's medieval gates. It was erected around 1297 when a second city wall was built around the city. At first, there were eight gates that served as entrances to the city of which only four survive today. The present Kruispoort is not the original one but a structure constructed in 1402. In the 1780s, the city walls were demolished as Brugge started expanding. Four of the gates were left intact to give visitors an idea of how heavily fortified Brugge was in the middle ages.

 

Kruispoort consists of two tall towers connected by an overhead passage. The passage and the towers have windows through which bullets were fired at the enemy. Initially, there were two bridges and a front gate that have disappeared over time. A drawbridge and two large doors were quickly closed as soon as guards could see the enemy approaching. The interior is preserved in its original condition and visitors can see the seats of the guards on each floor. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Napoleon, and the German army all entered Brugge through Kruispoort. The gate looks magnificent at night when it is illuminated.

If one passes the garden at the rear of the Juhamnu Pavilion and walks down along the slope of the hill leading into the stairway, the person can find a square pond on the opposite side and a pavilion on the north bank of the pond. This is the Aeryeonjeong, which is composed of only 1 kan. Looking out of the windows of the pavilion, one can enjoy a wonderful view. It looks like just a framed picture, owing to the decorations attached to the upper part of the pillars. Of course, the mood of the picture depends on the season. In particular, the stone structure, through which water comes into the pond, is opposite excellent in beauty and technique of design.

¿Quieres ser una persona que hace la voluntad de Dios y entrar en el reino de los cielos?

 

El Señor Jesús dijo: “No todo el que me dice: «Señor, Señor», entrará en el reino de los cielos, sino el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos” (Mateo 7:21). El Señor nos dijo que solo los que hacen la voluntad de Dios pueden entrar en el reino de los cielos. Entonces, ¿cómo podemos convertirnos en personas que hacen la voluntad de Dios?

En primer lugar, debemos entender que hacer la voluntad de Dios consiste en escuchar las palabras de Dios, obedecer Sus orquestaciones y arreglos y ser capaz de dar testimonio de Él en medio de pruebas o asuntos que no se ajustan a nuestro deseo. Al igual que Abraham, Job y Pedro, quienes no se quejaron de Dios durante pruebas, sino que obedecieron completamente las orquestaciones de Dios, y acabaron dando brillante testimonio de Él. Esto es hacer la voluntad de Dios. Pero ahora nos sigue costando obedecer de verdad a Dios y amarlo, por ejemplo, cuando la gente, las cosas y los objetos que Dios pone a nuestro alrededor en la vida están en conflicto con nuestros conceptos, aún juzgamos a Dios a voluntad, lo negamos, e incluso le damos la espalda; Dios nos demanda que seamos honestos, tolerantes y pacientes y amemos a los demás como a nosotros mismos, etc., sin embargo, a menudo perdemos los estribos, mentir y engañar, tener celos de otros y ser mojigatos, por lo que todavía no somos personas que hacen la voluntad de Dios. Así pues, ¿cómo podemos solucionar el problema de pecar y ser una persona que sigue La voluntad de Dios?

 

La Palabra de Dios dice: “Por todo lo que el hombre pueda haber sido redimido y perdonado de sus pecados, sólo puede considerarse que Dios no recuerda sus transgresiones y no lo trata de acuerdo con estas. Sin embargo, cuando el hombre, que vive en un cuerpo de carne, no ha sido liberado del pecado, sólo puede continuar pecando, revelando, interminablemente, su carácter satánico corrupto. Esta es la vida que el hombre lleva, un ciclo sin fin de pecado y perdón. La mayor parte de la humanidad peca durante el día y se confiesa por la noche. Así, aunque la ofrenda por el pecado siempre sea efectiva para el hombre, no podrá salvarlo del pecado. Sólo se ha completado la mitad de la obra de salvación, porque el hombre sigue teniendo un carácter corrupto. […] No resulta fácil para el hombre ser consciente de sus pecados; no tiene forma de reconocer su propia naturaleza profundamente arraigada, y debe depender del juicio por la palabra para lograr este resultado. Sólo así puede el hombre ser transformado gradualmente a partir de ese momento”.

 

“Aunque Jesús hizo mucha obra entre los hombres, sólo completó la redención de toda la humanidad y se convirtió en la ofrenda por el pecado del hombre; no lo libró de la totalidad de su carácter corrupto. Salvar al hombre totalmente de la influencia de Satanás no sólo requirió que Jesús se convirtiera en la ofrenda por el pecado y cargara con los pecados del hombre, sino también que Dios realizara una obra incluso mayor para librar completamente al hombre de su carácter satánicamente corrompido. Y, así, ahora que el hombre ha sido perdonado de sus pecados, Dios ha vuelto a la carne para guiar al hombre a la nueva era, y comenzó la obra de castigo y juicio. Esta obra ha llevado al hombre a una esfera más elevada. Todos los que se someten bajo Su dominio disfrutarán una verdad más elevada y recibirán mayores bendiciones. Vivirán realmente en la luz, y obtendrán la verdad, el camino y la vida”.

Aún necesitamos que venga de nuevo en los últimos días para llevar a cabo una etapa de obra de juicio y purificación y resolver completamente nuestra naturaleza pecaminosa y que podamos ser purificados de nuestros pecados y tener la oportunidad de entrar en el reino de los cielos y ser personas que hacen la voluntad de Dios.

Παναγία Πελεκητή: Η «βασίλισσα» των Αγράφων

Είναι ένα από τα μοναστήρια που ξεχωρίζουν. Το τοπίο, η αρχιτεκτονική του, η ιστορία του καθιστούν την Ιερά Μονή της Παναγίας Πελεκητής προσκυνηματικό κέντρο. Βρίσκεται κτισμένη πάνω από την τεχνητή λίμνη Πλαστήρα στην Καρδίτσα και υπάγεται διοικητικά στη Μητρόπολη Φαναριοφερσάλων. Σύμφωνα με τα τελευταία ιστορικά στοιχεία, κτίστηκε πριν από περίπου πέντε αιώνες σε μια απόκρημνη, βραχώδη πλαγιά των Αγράφων, σε υψόμετρο 1.400 μέτρων, βορειοδυτικά του χωριού Καρίτσα.

Η ιστορία της Ιεράς Μονής Παναγίας Πελεκητής έχει συνδεθεί με την πορεία της περιοχής, η οποία συμμετείχε σε όλους τους αγώνες του Έθνους. Κατά την επανάσταση του 1821 η Καρίτσα καταστράφηκε από τους Τούρκους, ενώ το 1943 από τους Γερμανούς. Οι μοναχοί της μονής ήταν εκ των πρωταγωνιστών κατά την απελευθέρωση της Καρίτσας από τους Τούρκους, δημιουργώντας μια διαφορετική σχέση με τους κατοίκους.

Από την ίδρυσή της η μονή δέσποζε στα εκκλησιαστικά πράγματα της περιοχής αφού είχε αναγνωριστεί ως σταυροπηγιακή το 1606 από τον Οικουμενικό Πατριάρχη Ραφαήλ Β΄.

Πελεκητή ονομάστηκε καθώς τα κελιά της δημιουργήθηκαν μέσα στους βράχους σε τέσσερα επίπεδα, όπου οι μοναχοί ζούσαν και λειτουργούσαν το μοναστήρι, ενώ υπήρχε ακόμη και κρυφό σχολειό.

 

Ο Πορφύριος

Όπως αναφέρει ο Φώτης Κερασιώτης, που έχει ασχοληθεί με την ιστορία της μονής, η ίδρυσή της άρχισε πιθανότατα στα τέλη του 15ου αιώνα από τον Πνευματικό Πορφύριο και ολοκληρώθηκε το 1529 στη σημερινή της μορφή από τον νέο Οσιομάρτυρα Δαμιανό, ο οποίος ιστορείται ως «κτήτωρ» σε δύο τοιχογραφίες της. Το μοναστήρι αγιογραφήθηκε στα μέσα του 17ου αιώνα και έχει δύο ναούς, τον Ναό της Αναλήψεως του Χριστού και τον Ναό της Παναγιάς Φανερωμένης (το Καθολικό).

Το Καθολικό είναι ο κεντρικός και αρχαιότερος ναός, αφιερωμένος στην Ανάληψη του Κυρίου. Είναι μονόκλιτη βασιλική με νάρθηκα, στεγασμένη με κυλινδρική καμάρα, με ενισχυτικό τόξο στο μέσο. Σύμφωνα με σχετική επιγραφή που υπάρχει εντός του ναού, αγιογραφήθηκε το 1654 από τους αγιογράφους Ιωάννη, Νικόλαο Ιερέα και Ιάκωβο Ιερομόναχο.

Ο δεύτερος ναός είναι αφιερωμένος στην Παναγία Φανερωμένη. Είναι αθωνικού ρυθμού, με τρούλο και πλευρικούς χορούς, χωρίς εσωτερικούς κίονες. Οι τοιχογραφίες, όπως προκύπτει από σχετική επιγραφή που υπάρχει επάνω από τη θύρα εισόδου, ιστορήθηκαν το 1666. Ανιστορήθηκαν το 1674 από τον αγιογράφο Ιάκωβο και τον γιο του Δημήτριο.

Γνωστή είναι η μικρή αλλά θαυματουργή εικόνα της Παναγίας Πελεκητής, στην οποία έχει ζωγραφιστεί η Παναγία με τον Χριστό στην αγκαλιά της. Η εικόνα δυστυχώς εκλάπη και αναζητείται για να επιστραφεί στη φυσική της θέση, το μοναστήρι. Ο Ευρυτάνας ιστορικός Πάνος Βασιλείου το 1929 έγραψε τα εξής: «Εκτός της αρίστης Βυζαντινής τέχνης σε τοιχογραφίες, υπάρχει εδώ μια εικόνα (ελαιογραφία 0,04Χ0,03) της Παναγίας με τον Χριστό στην αγκαλιά της, έργο Ραφαηλικής τέχνης. Δεν εξηγείται πώς η μικροσκοπική αυτή εικονίτσα, που θεωρείται και σαν παλαιότερη, αλλά θαυματουργός, βρέθηκε εδώ πάνω. Φέρει χρονολογία 1654.

Η τεχνοτροπία της θυμίζει τον Χριστό του Πρωτάτου του Αγίου Όρους, το γνωστό έργο του Πανσέληνου. Μάλιστα ήταν η εικονίτσα τούτη στολισμένη με 20 πολύτιμες πέτρες από τις οποίες οι 16 αφαιρέθηκαν από… αγνώστους, χωρίς φυσικά τούτου να σημειωθεί σε κανένα, ως τα σήμερα, αστυνομικό δελτίο. Μένουν ακόμα, ευτυχώς, 4 ερυθρόχρωμες πετρούλες στο επαργυρωμένο περίβλημά της που έχει μέγεθος 0,21Χ0,23 μ. και που φέρει επάνω του σκαλισμένα αγγελούδια. Μια απέραντη καλοσύνη ζωγραφίζεται στο χαμογελαστό πρόσωπο της Παναγίας, της οποίας το παιδάκι παρουσιάζει κάτι το αληθινά Θείο και αξιοθαύμαστο για τη χαρούμενη εκφραστικότητά του. Η θαυμάσια αυτή εικόνα της Παναγίας της Πελεκητής θυμίζει Αναγέννηση».

Το μοναστήρι λόγω της περίτεχνης κατασκευής του και της ένδοξης ιστορίας του έχει ανακηρυχθεί «Ιστορικό Διατηρητέο Μνημείο». Δυστυχώς, όμως, από τον πλούτο των εκκλησιαστικών κειμηλίων και της σπάνιας βιβλιοθήκης του ελάχιστα, σήμερα, διασώζονται.

Το μοναστήρι πανηγυρίζει στις 15 Αυγούστου, της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, ύστερα από σημαντικές πρωτοβουλίες των τοπικών φορέων και άλλων παραγόντων, εξευρέθηκαν τα απαραίτητα χρηματικά ποσά και το μοναστήρι έχει ανακαινισθεί και αξιοποιηθεί, συγκεντρώνοντας πλήθος προσκυνητών από ολόκληρη την ελληνική επικράτεια.

 

Όταν οι μοναχοί μετακίνησαν τα σύνορα το 1831

Εντύπωση προκαλεί και το εξής περιστατικό: Μετά τη δημιουργία του ελληνικού Κράτους, το 1831, η Καρύτσα (είναι το χωριό κάτω από το μοναστήρι) και ο Μπελεκομύτης βρέθηκαν εκτός ελληνικών συνόρων γιατί καθορίστηκαν επί του Καρυτσιώτη ποταμού, ενώ αυτά τα δύο χωριά βρίσκονται μετά τον ποταμό. Τότε οι μοναχοί μαζί με τους κατοίκους των δύο χωριών μετακίνησαν αυθαίρετα τα σύνορα και τα τοποθέτησαν μετά το μοναστήρι, στο οροπέδιο του Καραμανώλη.

Panagia Pelekiti(rusticated): The "Queen" of Agrafa

It is one of the monasteries that stand out. The landscape, architecture, history make the Holy Monastery of Panayia Pelekiti a pilgrimage center. It is built above the artificial lake Plastira in Karditsa and is administratively subordinated to the Cathedral of Fanariers. According to the latest historical data, it was built about five centuries ago on a steep rocky slope of Agrafa, at an altitude of 1,400 meters, northwest of Karitsa village.

The history of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pelekiti has been linked to the course of the region, which participated in all the struggles of the Nation. During the revolution of 1821 Karitsa was destroyed by the Turks, while in 1943 by the Germans. The monks of the monastery were among the protagonists in the liberation of Karitsa from the Turks, creating a different relationship with the inhabitants.

Since its founding, the monastery has dominated the ecclesiastical things of the region since it was recognized as a cruciform in 1606 by the Ecumenical Patriarch Raffael II.

Pelekiti was named as its cells were created in the rocks on four levels, where the monks lived and functioned the monastery, while there was even a hidden school.

Porphyrios

According to Fotis Kerassiotis, who has dealt with the history of the monastery, it was probably founded at the end of the 15th century by the Spiritual Porphyry and was completed in 1529 in its present form by the new Omar Martyr Damianos, who is described as a "builder" In two frescoes. The monastery was hagiographed in the middle of the 17th century and has two temples, the Church of the Ascension of Christ and the Church of Panagia Faneromeni (the Catholic).

The Katholikon is the central and most ancient temple, devoted to Ascension of the Lord. It is a one-aisled basilica with a narthex, sheltered by a cylindrical arch, with a reinforcement bow in the middle. According to a relevant inscription inside the temple, it was painted in 1654 by hagiographers Ioannis, Nicholas Priest and Iacob Ieromonas.

The second temple is dedicated to Panagia Faneromeni. It is of the Athonian style, with dome and side dances, without internal columns. The frescoes, as indicated by a relevant inscription above the entrance door, were discovered in 1666. They were painted in 1674 by the icon-painter Iakovos and his son Dimitrios.

Known is the small but miraculous icon of Panagia Pelekiti, in which the Virgin Mary is painted with Christ in her arms. The picture is unfortunately stolen and sought to be returned to its natural place, the monastery. Evrytanas historian Panos Vassiliou wrote in 1929: "In addition to the excellent Byzantine art in frescoes, there is an icon (oil painting 0,04x0,03) of the Virgin Mary with Christ in her arms, a work of Raphael art. It is not explained how this tiny icon, which is considered as an old but miraculous icon, was found here. It dates back to 1654.

The style reminiscent of the Christ of the Protaton of Mount Athos, the well-known work of the Full Moon. In fact, this icon was embellished with 20 precious stones, of which 16 were removed from ... strangers, of course not to mention to anyone, as today, a police record. There are still, fortunately, 4 red-colored petals in its silver-plated casing, which is 0.21 x 0.23 m in size and carved on it with carved angels. An immense kindness is painted on the smiling face of Our Lady, whose child presents something truly divine and admirable for his joyful expressiveness. This magnificent icon of Virgin Mary Pelekite reminds Renaissance. "

The monastery, due to its elaborate construction and its glorious history, has been declared "Historic Preserved Monument". Unfortunately, however, the wealth of ecclesiastical heirlooms and its rare library are scarcely preserved today.

The monastery celebrates on August 15, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In recent years, after significant initiatives by local actors and other actors, the necessary money has been found and the monastery has been renovated and exploited, gathering crowds of pilgrims from all over Greece.

El Museo Naval de Cartagena es un museo militar ubicado en el puerto de la ciudad y que presenta exposiciones relacionadas con la construcción naval. Es filial del Museo Naval de Madrid.

 

Historia

El Museo Naval de Cartagena, fue inaugurado el 8 de julio de 1986. El antiguo edificio de estilo modernista fue construido a cargo de la dirección del arquitecto Lorenzo Ros en 1926. En principio este edificio fue dedicado a la Escuela de Aprendices de la Sociedad Española de Construcción Naval que, en 1947, cambió su nombre para llamarse Empresa Nacional Bazán. También, durante algunos años, se convirtió en el colegio Nuestra Señora del Rosario. Por último la Armada recuperó el edificio, y cambió las funciones del mismo para convertirlo en el museo naval, siendo inaugurado el 8 de julio de 1986.

 

Desde el año 2012, el museo, trasladado a una nueva sede ubicada en el puerto, en el antiguo Cuartel de Instrucción de Marinería (CIM), se encuentra en un edificio histórico de mediados del siglo XVIII obra del ingeniero militar Mateo Vodopich y situado frente a la Dársena de Botes, en plena fachada marítima de la ciudad. Desde su construcción, en 1786, este edificio ha pasado por diferentes usos, como Centro Penitenciario del Estado (1824), Presidio (1910) o, tras la Guerra Civil, como Cuartel de Instrucción de Marinería. Tras el convenio firmado por el Ministerio de Defensa, la Comunidad Autónoma de la Región de Murcia y la Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (2005) se establece el uso compartido entre Universidad y Museo Naval. El espacio destinado al Museo se ubica en la mitad sur de la planta baja del edificio.

 

La colección se extiende entre sus salas, el vestíbulo y los pasillos:

 

Vestíbulo: Se puede destacar la maqueta del buque escuela Juan Sebastián de Elcano, y la imagen de la Virgen del Carmen, son dos emblemas de la Armada Española, además de objetos variados.

 

Pasillos: Allí se puede observar en exposición la munición y las máscaras utilizadas en la primera mitad de siglo.

 

Sala Arsenal: En esta sala se pueden observar: planos, herramientas de carpintería y herrería de ribera, talleres de jarcia y velas, elementos de maniobra y modelos de barcos de vela, restos de los navíos “Ntra. Sra. de Atocha” y “Santa Margarita”, documentos de principio de siglo.

 

Sala Infantería de Marina: En esta sala se recogen cuadros que muestran las acciones y batallas en las que participó la infantería de marina a lo largo de su historia. También hay fotografías de la infantería de marina y una sección dedicada a sus bandas de música, armas y uniformes.

 

Sala cartografía y navegación: Se exponen copias de manuscritos de mapas, cartas y objetos tales como: un timón de un vapor de guerra del siglo XIX, telégrafos, sextantes, publicaciones de navegación, una colección de bitácoras, dos navíos y una urca.

 

La sala del buceo en la Armada: Refleja la historia del buceo en la Armada teniendo así diversos objetos sobre este tema y su evolución.

 

Sala siglo XIX: Muestra la agitación ocurrida en el siglo XIX en Cartagena, trata temas políticos, campañas militares a Cuba, y hasta restos del bombardeo sufrido en Cartagena en 1873.

 

Sala armamento: Esta sala expone el armamento de la Armada, así se encontrarán: armas, municiones, artificios y pertrechos.

 

Sala banderas y uniformes: Se exponen banderas que están ligadas a la antigua Zona Marítima del Mediterráneo, así como uniformes y modelos de navíos

 

Sala de Sanidad Naval: Se puede encontrar diversos objetos del antiguo hospital de monjas: un Sagrado Corazón, retratos de médicos, héroes de guerra, documentación antigua; reales cédulas, ordenanzas del Colegio de Cirugía, uniformes del siglo xviii, maquetas.

 

Sala Isaac Peral

Situada en el antiguo taller de fundición del Arsenal, edificio de mediados del siglo xix, en la Sala Isaac Peral se exhibe el prototipo de torpedero submarino diseñado y construido por este insigne cartagenero. En este edificio, anexo al Edificio CIM, en cuyo frente sur se sitúa el Museo Naval de Cartagena, también se encuentra la sala dedicada a la Historia del Arma Submarina y la colección de modelismo naval Julio Castelo - Fundación Mapfre.

 

Esta sala, dedicada a Isaac Peral, como su nombre indica, incluye una sección, Legado Isaac Peral, en la que se exponen planos documentos y objetos personales que forman parte del Patrimonio Nacional, además de pinturas, maquetas del submarino y un retrato de Isaac Peral.

 

Este edificio acoge, así mismo, distintos elementos relacionados con la Historia del Arma Submarina Española.

 

Sala historia del arma submarina: Se exponen objetos que muestran el desarrollo de la flota submarina española: torpedos, hélices, cuadros fotografías, vajillas, cuberterías, periscopios, timones.

 

Sala de submarinos: En esta sala se exponen maquetas de casi todos los submarinos que participaron en la armada, objetos tales como: baterías, planos de submarinos, campanas de recuperación, de salvamento, torpedos y la Cámara de Oficiales del submarino Narciso Monturiol (S-35).

Life in Mei Foo-Now and Then by Ng Yuen Wa

 

The sixteen panels will be divided into two main parts according to their themes, one part is about the past of Mei Foo and the other illustrates the life of the Mei Foo residents at the present moment. These two main parts can be subdivided into four groups, each group consisting of four panels:

 

The first group, On the Night of the Mid-Autumn Festival , depicts how the Mei Foo residents used to share their love and joy at the podium under the full moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival.;

 

The second group, centred on the theme of Memory of the Seashore, brings the viewers back to a time when there was a wonderful seashore at the Mei Foo Sun Chuen. With a touch of nostalgia, this group of works highlights the sublime seascape and the serene atmosphere of the Mei Foo Sun Chuen.

 

The Mei Foo residents depicted in the third group, Apartment in the Starry Metropolitan, enjoy the glittering night scene of this prosperous metropolitan – Hong Kong – through gazing out of their apartment windows, while they are resting in their apartments after a day of work.

 

In Mei Foo, a piece of land has been reclaimed from the sea and a park with different kinds of recreational facilities is built on the reclamation area. The fourth group of work, entitled A Delightful Weekend, focuses on the recreational activities of the Mei Foo residents taking place in the park.

Imaged by me at Negev Desert during two nights this summer.

These cosmic clouds in Cepheus have blossomed 1,300 light-years away. Located near center of this field, the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023 is not the only nebula to evoke the imagery of flowers, though. Within the Iris itself, dusty nebular material surrounds a hot, young star. The dominant color of the brighter reflection nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Central filaments of the reflection nebula glow with a faint reddish photo luminescence as some dust grains effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. Infrared observations indicate that this nebula contains complex carbon molecules known as PAHs. The pretty blue petals of the Iris Nebula span about six light-years.

 

The dusty ghosts in the right side of this field are close to the edge of the Cepheus Flare molecular cloud complex. Over two light-years across and brighter than the other spooky chimeras, VdB 141 or Sh2-136 is also known as the Ghost Nebula, seen at toward the bottom of the featured image. Within the reflection nebula are the telltale signs of dense cores collapsing in the early stages of star formation. A protostar can be seen forming at the lower right end of the nebula. The V-shaped projection is one side of the bipolar outflow induced by the protostar's rotating accretion disk. Light from the protostar itself can be seen feebly glowing at the vertex of the V. The opposite bipolar outflow exiting the opposite side of the nebula can just be glimpsed to the left of the bright yellow star above the nebula.

Artist's Concept:

Ceramics are guardians of history.

Archaeological finds unearthed at the site of the Sung Wong Toi station has revealed a historical time preserved in the strata of our soil. Among the relics are ceramics dating back to the Song Dynasty, a golden age of Chinese culture.

 

“Earth Song” pays homage to this period - a pinnacle of cultural refinement. Motifs and compositions from Song Dynasty paintings are given a contemporary treatment in two pairs of ceramic reliefs. Set against backgrounds of changing seasons and times of day, fluttering butterflies and rhythmic tides convey a poetic sensibility, and forge an imaginative link between historical literati and present-day commuters.

 

The extensive research, preparation and creative process behind the final art pieces are documented in a photographic collage along the corridors. All photographs, like the reliefs, are framed in circles, reminiscent of foot rings of ceramic vessels excavated at the site. These unassuming fragments illustrate natural exquisiteness and manifest the everyday aesthetics of a culture worthy of celebration.

At Noshinima's Neighborhood

   

The Challenge At Noshinima's Neighborhood: The City Block

   

This is the third of my challenges taking place at my brand new, bigger parcel, also named Noshinima's Neighborhood. This setup was a nightmare to work on, and after weeks of work and a lot of lindens spend, I have finally came up with a new challenge for all of you and it is now ready for visitors. This is a new concept I am showcasing on my Flickr, where I challenge 50 great artists to do a photo shoot in the backdrop I created at my home sim.

   

For the third challenge, I created a large New York style city block, complete with all the different types of retail store outlets you would find at in your typical downtown stroll along downtown. There are clothing stores, supermarkets, pizzerias flower shops and all types of different settings that can be potentially found in just one city block. This also comes with a fairly realistic street view complete with cars and trucks. I am challenging the names tagged in this post to do a shoot within my city block anywhere they like and however they like.

   

Rules and details:

   

1) I (Noshinima Midas) tag 50 names of great photographers on Second Life. Said photographers that choose to participate in the challenge can come over to my parcel, Noshinima's Neighborhood (link below) and do an image anywhere in my city. You will be allowed two hours to use any posestands or props that you would like to add and are allowed to bring any friends you want to join you in your shoot. You are also allowed to make the shoot as safe or as adult as you like. The only rule is that you do the shoot within the city block. Take your time to have a look around to see where in the block would make a great place for your image.

   

2) Upload the finished image onto Flickr and place the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge3 on either the title or the description.

   

3) YOU MUST TAG 10 PEOPLE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE TAKE THIS CHALLENGE ON YOUR UPLOAD OF YOUR SHOOT! NO MORE, NO LESS! I have had several people during previous challenges that have not followed this simple rule so I am making it ALLCAPS to get the point across. I am still working on adding small touches and details to make the parcel stand out. You may find empty rooms in the parcel but I will work on filling them up as soon as possible. Please excuse the otherwise unfinished and unorganized look of my city block.

En esta panorámica vertical de 3 fotos realizada en el Desierto de Atacama (uno de los cielos nocturnos mas oscuros del mundo), tuve la suerte de capturar la Luz Zodiacal junto a la Vía Láctea y a las ruinas de una antigua mina de oro y cobre.

La Luz Zodiacal es una banda débil de luz, de forma casi triangular, que se puede observar en el cielo nocturno justo antes del amanecer o bien después del atardecer, y que se forma por la dispersión de la luz del sol en una nube de polvo que rodea al sistema solar y que se denomina Nube Zodiacal.

Este es un fenómeno difícil de observar debido a lo tenue de su luz, y a que la más mínima influencia de la luz de la Luna o, más comúnmente, de la contaminación lumínica, la hace desaparecer.

 

ENGLISH CAPTION: "Zodiacal" This vertical panorama (vertorama) combines three photos held in the Atacama Desert (one of the darkest night skies in the world), and I was lucky enouhg to capture the Zodiacal light below the Milky Way and around the ruins of an old gold mine.

The Zodiacal light is a faint, roughly triangular, diffuse white glow seen in the night sky just before the sunrise or after the sunset. This light is the result of sun's light being scattered by the Zodiacal Cloud, a space dust cloud that surround our solar system.

This is a phenomenon difficult to observe mostly due to its dim light, which means that the slightest influence of the moonlight or, more commonly, from light pollution, makes it completely vanish.
