Designated as a National Important Cultural Property on August 29, 1910

Hokoku Shrine is dedicated to the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi (one of the three unifiers of Japan in the 16th century) and his loyal aid Kato Kiyomasa. The reason for building this structure is clearly stated in a letter by Ankokuji Ekei, head monk of Ankokuji Temple. In 1587, Ekei asked Daiganji Temple, the temple in charge of construction and repair work in Miyajima including Itsukushima Shrine, to build a Buddhist library in which the chanting of Senbu-kyo sutras could be held every month. As there is no board ceiling or outer gate, it is believed that the construction of the building was not completed.

Originally, Amida Buddha and two subordinate Buddhist saints, Anan and Kasho-sonja, were enshrined in the Buddhist altar until the early Meiji era. Since that time, however, the altar has been used in Shinto rituals.

The building is called Senjokaku (Hall of One Thousand Tatami Mats), reflecting its standing as the largest structure on Miyajima Island. The shrine was a popular landmark in Miyajima where many people came to relax and cool themselves and to buy popular souvenirs such as tooth picks, and a variety of legends and traditions have been created here.

The fact that this structure, unique among the buildings belonging to Itsukushima Shrine, is unpainted and that its exact date of founding is recorded makes it a valuable gauge of the passage of time. The traces of weathering on its pillars and floor boards can be used to determine the approximate age of any other wooden structure on Miyajima.

A piece of wood used as a measuring device in the reconstruction work of the O-Torii in 1873 hangs on a pillar under the floor of the south part of the shrine. Countless votive picture tablets that had been hanging on the walls of Itsukushima Shrine buildings until the mid Meiji era decorate the walls inside the hall.

The shrine did not yet exist at the time of the Battle of Itsukushima in 1555 when the Mori clan defeated the Sue clan to unify the Chugoku region. The headquarters of the Sue clan was located on this hill, which was then called To-no-oka (Pagoda Hill). Starting in the Meiji era, the hill was developed through the establishment of stone steps, among other additions.

Its bare appearance may not intrigue you at first. Only unfinished walls and a hundred pillars. Although the building is pretty, there is something missing. But once inside, look up: the gigantic ceiling is covered with a mosaic of paintings whose subjects are as varied as the styles and periods of implementation. Medieval battles, Buddhist representations, landscapes and animals in a modern style, the eye does not know where to turn.

Life in Mei Foo-Now and Then by Ng Yuen Wa

The sixteen panels will be divided into two main parts according to their themes, one part is about the past of Mei Foo and the other illustrates the life of the Mei Foo residents at the present moment. These two main parts can be subdivided into four groups, each group consisting of four panels:

The first group, On the Night of the Mid-Autumn Festival , depicts how the Mei Foo residents used to share their love and joy at the podium under the full moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival.;

The second group, centred on the theme of Memory of the Seashore, brings the viewers back to a time when there was a wonderful seashore at the Mei Foo Sun Chuen. With a touch of nostalgia, this group of works highlights the sublime seascape and the serene atmosphere of the Mei Foo Sun Chuen.

The Mei Foo residents depicted in the third group, Apartment in the Starry Metropolitan, enjoy the glittering night scene of this prosperous metropolitan – Hong Kong – through gazing out of their apartment windows, while they are resting in their apartments after a day of work.

In Mei Foo, a piece of land has been reclaimed from the sea and a park with different kinds of recreational facilities is built on the reclamation area. The fourth group of work, entitled A Delightful Weekend, focuses on the recreational activities of the Mei Foo residents taking place in the park.

Mount Utsayantha got its name from the legend of a local Indian maiden, Utsayantha – which means "beautiful spring." She was said to have borne a child whose father was white, something that made her father, the chief, so furious he buried a tomahawk in the white man's skull and rowed with the baby to the center of a nearby lake and drowned it. Utsayantha followed her father to the lake and in her despair, drowned herself too. Upon discovering what she had done, the legend says the chief recovered her body and carried her up the mountain, where he buried her. Her grave site was believed to have been discovered in 1862, and although many doubt its authenticity, a monument was placed at the site in 1936.

Salid a recibirlo’” (Mateo 25:6).

Amara's Journal

Adagio: would knock politely at amara's door. the gesture gentle and polite. she'd step back from teh door, her crystal clera voice chiming musically against the steel door. "Hello there darling, I brought you something." She'd smile gently taking a small piece of genger and rubbing it briefly on a few spots around her neck and behind her ears like a perfume.

Amara unshackled the handcuff binding her to the suitcase and opened the door. Immediately, she slanted her head to give the slender women a gentle welcoming kiss. "Long time no see, love. I brought a few things for you as well." Her eyes narrowed lightly at the scent of ginger on Adagio's neck, a light approving hum coming from her lips. "How have you been?"

Adagio: would give a soft smile to amara, a bright smile coming to her face feeling the lips against hers. she'd linger with the kiss for a few minutes just enjoying teh feeling, it had been too long."thank you very much darling, but the only thing you needed to bring was yourself." She'd smile gently giving a soft smile. "Well I've been good. been focusing les son my muscles and mor eon ballet and cardio. I won't be putting you thos egrueling weight routines unless you want to do that anymore. This also means fewer situps."

Amara chuckled at this, letting her arms settle around the other's hips. "I don't mind the sit-ups so much now. After the physicals the board put me through, those workouts were likely more beneficial than I realized." Her head motioned to the boxes. "Most of that stuff is for the Pack or the hospital, given what hasn't already been delivered. Various types of katanas, kunai, and other fine weaponry courtesy of the Japanese branch." As she spoke, she seemed to sway gingerly with a gentle smile on her face. "I missed you, Adagio."

Adagio: would smile a little bit giving a soft chuckle. "Well that's good to know, Im glad that the torture I put you through seems to have made a difference. We'll still do thos ethen, just not so many, Im trying to lose my ten pack actually. I spoke with temp, and well I realized that I looked prettier slim, than bulging. Especially since i prefer ballet rather than weights." She'd smile a little bit giving amara another soft kiss. "Oh you hav eno idea how much I misse dyou darling. in fact, i'd like to welcome you back properly if you're not against it?" she'd smile gently her bright sapphire eyes flicking to the bed.

Amara bit her lip at the suggestion, her hands clenching slightly on Adagio's belt. Every fiber of desire in her seemed to react with glee to Adagio's advance, but the hybrid had something else on her mind, something more important to her. "Umm before that," she'd step backwards, holding Adagio's hands in front of her. "I'd like to give you my vows first…since the opportunity was missed before I left." Amara raised the slender woman's hands, kissing both softly.

Adagio: would smile gently, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red. She'd smile gently a soft flutter rising up from her stomach at the statement. "Amara, i'd lovefor you to give me your vows. thank you."

Amara chuckled at the slow reddening flush of Adagio's cheeks, but took a few breaths to regain her composure. She just wanted to get through it all without crying. "I…It was a joy and a bit of gamble to ask you out back when we were coworkers. Relationships had always been a thing I shied away from…because of my own inner demons with what I was." She looked down a moment, her thumbs rubbing over Adagio's hands slowly. "Never had anyone showed me the kind of affection and love that you opened my heart to. It's allowed me to blossom as a person, as a lover, and as a caretaker." A slight crack in her voice was quickly put in check. She was not going to cry…not yet anyway.

Adagio: would sjust smile warmly, her thumbs slowly rolling over amara's fingers in her hand, the strong fingers feeling like they belonge din her grasp. her gaze would be kind and loving, the bright blue eyes filled with love and affection.

"I know I resisted heavily when you proposed to me, but it was only because I couldn't believe someone would see me in that manner. With all the oddities and uncertainties about me…" Amara admitted. No watery eyes yet, she'd glance over at the table where they had spoken often over tea and the occasional salad. "We have both spent a good portion of our lives in search of different things. Answers to internal questions and the like, but finding each other…that alone provided in a way answers to questions we'd never realized we had. Could I trust this person? Can I love this person? I never used to think of such things."

Adagio: would just smile softly, a few tears coming gently toher eyes, carrying the sweet biting scent of fresh ginger with them. She'd be smiling though, happier than any other time in her life, for once absolutely speechless at the devotion amara was showing to her.

Amara leaned forward, lightly kissing a few of the tears on Adagio's cheek as they streamed down. The fact Adagio was more emotional seemed to calm her down. "I vow to treasure you, this intelligent, glorious woman called Adagio with a uniquely logical mind. I vow to be honest, to not keep secrets. To be a valuable support beam when life's weight becomes too much." Her words were more of a whisper, loud enough just to pierce Adagio's ears. "I vow not to sneak fried foods into your dinner." she joked. "Most importantly, I give my heart, my mind, and soul purely and solely to you, my wife."

Adagio: would just smile broadly, her eyes shining brightly with tears leaking out gently and slowly. she'd smile and try wrapping her arms around amara to pull her towards her in a passionate kiss. All of her soul would be given to the woman in that one action. every fiber of her being carefully transferred to her in that one passionate act.

Amara made a muffled moan as her lips were claimed by the taller woman. With her hands now free, she slid them over Adagio's shoulders and around her neck, her right hand resting comfortably on Adagio's cheek. In between breaths, she'd whisper a soft "love you" as the kiss was extended. Her tongue easily invaded the depths of Adagio's mouth, the taste of spearmint still dancing on her lips. As far as the hybrid was concerned they could stay in this position for the rest of eternity and she'd be thrilled.

Adagio: would just smile gently to amara with the kiss. she'd gently caress the other woman's tongue. She'd just deepen the kiss, the taste of spearmint on her lips intoxicating her, she'd hungrily kiss the lips, as if she were trying to move that delicate sharp flavor from Amara's mouth into her own. She'd just smile gently breakin the kiss for a second. "This is what i've been missing amara, thank you."

Amara only smiled. "Sorry it took so long, Adagio." She playfully nipped at Adagio's lips as she tried to latch on to Amara's lips hungrily. She was feeling rather playful after finally getting those long held words off her chest. Her eyes moved to glance at the black engagement ring still on her finger. The symbolism behind meant to Amara than just a mere sign she was engaged; someone had accepted her as a person. Not a thing, a creature, or a lab rat, but an actual person. "Mmm…that reminds me. I was given the files on the memories the company removed from my mind. I…I actually know what my name is now."

Adagio: would smile gently to her looking at her from a bief distance, just madly in love with her right now. "Oh and what is it darling? I'd like to know what you learned. If it mean you know yourself better then I want to know it too." She'd smile lovingly planting another shorter kiss on her lips, the gesture kind and playful.

" My parents were Marion and Ashley Dubois." Amara said proudly. "And their only daughter was Amara Micheline Dubois. It seems I have a French background I was not aware of." Her gaze followed the longing stare she received in return. She was becoming emotional now, a few stray tears leaving her eyes. She had been overjoyed just to know she had a surname, but now there was an entire history waiting to be rediscovered. "So…" she asked between planting light kisses. " Will it be Mrs. And Mrs. Anselm or Mrs. And Mrs. Dubois?"

España - Toledo - Palacio de Galiana

www.palaciodegaliana.es/en/index.html

www.palaciodegaliana.es/

***

ENGLISH:

The building, located on the northeast outskirts of Toledo's historic center, most likely formed part of the almunia (fortress) built by Al-Mamun of Toledo, king of the Taifa of Toledo (1043-1075). Following the Christian conquest, the site was called the "royal almunia," which was still used in 1294, although by this time the Castilianization of the name "Huerta del Rey" (King's Garden) had taken hold. The name Galiana became popular from the 16th century onwards due to the disappearance of the authentic Galiana palaces, located in the Alficén complex next to the Alcázar.

During the Mudejar period, the north and south facades were rebuilt. According to Gómez-Moreno, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the building was in poor condition, the windows with lobed arches, the plasterwork of the framing—dating from the 14th century—and remains of paintings—which he considers to be earlier—were still visible in the rooms on the second floor. Few fragments of this decoration remain today, but Gómez-Moreno's testimony seems to indicate two renovations. First, the painted plinths and some of the plasterwork were completed in the mid-13th century. Later, John I donated this royal possession to the Jerónimos convent of La Sisla in 1385. Almost a decade later, it was purchased by Beatriz de Silva, who married Alvar Pérez de Guzmán in 1397. It was shortly afterward that the second renovation of the building was undertaken, as evidenced by the Guzmán and Silva coat of arms featured in the plasterwork.

Due to successive inheritances, the orchard was divided among various owners. The majority continued to belong to the Guzmán y Montijo family, while other areas belonged to the Chapel of Santo Tomás and the Brotherhood of Santa Caridad. After the confiscations of the 19th century, the House of Montijo acquired the undivided shares of the entities whose real estate assets were sold to the State. Empress Eugenie was interested in restoring the palace, which ultimately did not happen. As time passed, the site fell into disrepair.

It was declared a historic-artistic monument, belonging to the National Artistic Treasure, on June 3, 1931, by a decree published in the Gaceta de Madrid with the signature of the provisional president of the republic, Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, and the Minister of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, Marcelino Domingo y Sanjúan. In the 20th century, the Duke of Peñaranda sold the estate to Alejandro Fernández de Araoz and Carmen Marañón, who began the rehabilitation in 1959.

The nearby rubbish was from the recent flood event that occurred in Cookeville. This cave is part of a drainage system for a large sinkhole. The high-water mark was right at the lip of this entrance. The swallet(s) below are choked with anthropogenic debris which may prevent the effective draining of the sinkhole.

We had tried to race this storm all the way back from Cozad but strong storm cells developed just to the north of the Interstate (80) and were destined to move south. We were east bound back to Kearney as we got slammed again once we got back into city limits.

Knocked out power to the city for about 6 hours.. Tons of transformers blew all over the town...

Luciana Cimino e Cesare Buquicchio

«Purtroppo l’Italia è il mio paese...». Jessica si blocca subito e si corregge. «No. «State attenti.

From my blog (oldlenses.blogspot.ca/2015/10/signs-that-you-are-addicted...):

G.A.S = Gear Acquisition Syndrome. A disease that affects mostly men. It infects the central reasoning area of the brain and makes men vulnerable into thinking more gear make them better photographers, and thus buying gear that they don't need. There is no known cure, but there is a silver lining; some men are able to recover as the photographs they make shift from pictures of cameras, lenses, brick walls, and resolution charts to other form of pictures.

You buy printed photo magazines just to look at the ads

You have a copy of A Lens Collector's Vade Meccum

You know exactly what a "normal" lens is

You have all 5 versions of the same lens

Words like Noctilux and Otus motivate you to make more money so that you can buy them

You name your daughter Tessar, and your son's name Nokton is not misspelled, and your dog's name is Skopar

You think Hologon is the most beautiful word in the world

You scare your partner at night uttering words like "Fisheye", "Bigma", in your sleep

You justify all your gear purchases as investment

You buy similar looking cameras so that your significant other can't tell the one that you use is not the same as the 4 others in the locked closet that only you have the key to

You tell your wife it's worth the expense of the 85mm f1.2L because it would make her look more beautiful in the picture

You convince yourself that the purchase of a Leica Summilux will one day make you as good as Henri Cartier-Bresson

Every time you see a red band, or gold band, it reminds you of your favourite lens

You are a Pentaxian, and you know the word "Limited" is not a disadvantage

You have been buying K-Mount lenses for the last ten years, because you believe one day, there will be a full frame Pentax camera, like you believe in Santa Claus

You get excited when you hear words like Holly Trinity, Magic Drainpipe, The Dust Pump, Sigmarit, and you know exactly what they refer to

You use Ikea shelves to store your cameras/lenses because you can't afford better shelves since you spent all your money on cameras/lenses

Decimal numbers like 0.95, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 bring tears to your eyes

You just realized that the lens you bought yesterday is exactly the same as 2 others that you didn't know you had

You take pictures with enlarging, projection, and printing cell lenses on your mirrorless camera

You have many lenses without apertures

You have many lenses without focus mechanism

You have drawers full of lens adapters

You have a large bin of lens hoods, and most of them don't fit your lenses, but you tell yourself one day, you will get the lenses that will fit the hoods

You can't understand why anyone needs to use the aperture on the lens, since you always shoot wide open

You feel no shame when others look at your ugly self-made lens contraption in disgust

100% of your pictures contains 99% bokeh, and 1% subject that's in focus.

Your favourite pastime is to browse antique/flea market for vintage cameras/lenses

You never miss a single camera show

You created an app with a SQL database to catalogue and keep track of your cameras/lenses because a spreadsheet has reached its capacity

You remember the minute details of a lens, but forget your kids birthdays

Your wife is annoyed that you

spend more time with your gear than with the kids, or with her

You blog about your favourite lens in length, and the only picture that accompanies the blog entry is the picture of the lens

You have 9 camera bags, and all of them are full of gear

You have 8 different tripod heads, and each one has a specific purpose, and each one is used exactly once

You fondle your cameras/lenses and talk to them like they are your lover

You spend more time on Flickr and online forums than taking pictures

You carry your camera with you everywhere you go, but you hardly take any pictures

You can't understand why anyone would read whatever Ken Rockwell has to say, and you visit Michael Johnston's theonlinephotographer blog religiously

You tell your wife you paid $20 for the very beat-up Speed Panchro that you actually paid $2000 for and she believed you

80% of the photo in your Flickr stream is picture of cameras and lenses

Your wife thinks your planar is something to organize your daily tasks

Your wife can not understand why all your lenses do not zoom or focus themselves

You made your kids call you Prime Master

You have a RAID 10 storage setup to protect the terabytes of pictures you took of your cameras and lenses

You have another RAID 10 storage setup to protect the setup above

You drove 4 hours to photograph a sunrise, only to find out you shot everything wide open out of habit, and all the pictures are overexposed

You made penholders out of broken lenses

You have a box you call treasure that's full of parts from dismantled cameras and lenses.

You hope that you can use them to repair lenses/cameras, but deep down you know that will never happen because that's why they became parts in the first place.

You use a stack of filter rings in place of a hood

You have a dozen rolls of exposed film in the drawer from 1998, but never developed

You get bored of the auto focus lenses you spent tens of thousands of dollar buying, and are having a blast with a $20 enlarging lens taking pictures of your AF lenses

You know by heart the first two digits of a Vivitar lens serial number corresponds to which manufacturer who made the lens.

You love pictures in RAW, and hate those cooked in jpeg

You have thousands of tiny screws harvested from dead cameras/lenses

Excerpt from jproc.ca/haida/40mm_bofors.html:

The Bofors 40 mm gun, is an anti-aircraft cannon designed in the 1930s by the Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors. It was one of the most popular medium-weight anti-aircraft systems during World War II and used by most of the western Allies as well as some captured systems being used by the Axis powers. A small number of these weapons saw action as late as the Persian Gulf War.

These 40 mm, Bofors anti-aircraft guns were installed between 1946 and 1947, on top of the original twin 20 mm OERLIKON power mountings. This was an RCN innovation. The mounting operated hydraulically, with the fluid being supplied by the pumps forward of the after funnel on the Bofor deck, and aft of the helm at the Emergency Steering position. The mounting moved in response to the movement of the fire control "joystick". These guns used to have a Mark II Gun sight, but they are missing.

The design of the gun is such that it had a very high rate of fire due to the fact that the vertical block in the breech, opened upon recoil of the gun, so that the casing was ejected almost immediately after firing. This resulted in a rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute. The rounds were loaded into the breech in "clips" of four and by a crew of four. They were: Trainer/Aimer, Breechworker, Layer, and Loader. The ammunition used was high explosive, and was not fused. The gun could elevate to 70 degrees, and could depress to 0 degrees which allowed it to be used against close in surface contacts which were below the arc of fire of the twin 4 inch guns. The Boffins was very useful in Korea for blowing up floating mines.

HAIDA was fitted with the Mk VII Bofors. In Wikipedia, Mk VII is defined as "a single barreled, hydraulically powered mounting that superseded the Mark III and entered service in 1945.

This week’s picture shows spectacular ribbons of gas and dust wrapping around the pearly centre of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1398. This galaxy is located in the constellation of Fornax (The Furnace), approximately 65 million light-years away. Rather than beginning at the very middle of the galaxy and swirling outwards, NGC 1398’s graceful spiral arms stem from a straight bar, formed of stars, that cuts through the galaxy’s central region. Most spiral galaxies — around two thirds — are observed to have this feature, but it’s not yet clear whether or how these bars affect a galaxy’s behaviour and development. This image comprises data gathered by the FOcal Reducer/low dispersion Spectrograph 2 (FORS2) instrument, mounted on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) at Paranal Observatory, Chile. It shows NGC 1398 in striking detail, from the dark lanes of dust mottling its spiral arms, through to the pink-hued star-forming regions sprinkled throughout its outer regions. This image was created as part of the ESO Cosmic Gems programme, an outreach initiative to produce images of interesting, intriguing or visually attractive objects using ESO telescopes, for the purposes of education and public outreach. The programme makes use of telescope time that cannot be used for science observations. All data collected may also be suitable for scientific purposes, and are made available to astronomers through ESO’s science archive.
