Standing below the Mobius Arch in Alabama Hills on a clear winter morning. The half moon is still high in the sky.
Half Moon Bay began as a rural agricultural area, primarily used by Mission San Francisco de Asís (established in 1776) for grazing of cattle, horses, and oxen
The community began to develop in the 1840s as San Mateo County's first real town. It is a thriving fishing industry in addition to its continued importance to coastal agriculture.

Half Moon Bay is located on the Pacific Coast between forested hills and some of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer. It is approximately 28 miles south of San Francisco and lies within the westernmost portion of San Mateo County.
HALF MOON BATTERY
Once the Half Moon Battery let cannons rain down on enemies on the castle approaches. Now it gives the castle its unique profile and is a wonderful place to stand and view the city and far beyond.
The Seven Sisters - bronze guns cast in the castle for James IV in about 1500- originally defended the Half Moon Battery. Today's cannons are 18-pounders made in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars.
Hidden inside is a secret: the battery was built on and around the ruins of the huge medieval David's Tower. Begun in 1367-68 by King David II, the tower came crashing down during the Lang Siege of 1571-73.
The Half Moon Battery is on the eastern side of the castle, overlooking the main entrance.
This build was started months ago but I left it for ages until the Christchurch Brickshow come along and decided to finish it.

I saw this half moon the night I returned from Baguio (12/27) but I couldn't upload it to Flickr due to the Net problems here in Asia. Had to email this in.
Which is significant: The tide is weaker at half moon, maybe the tide will not wash the PA to the sea.

I've just received a copy of "A Beautiful Silence", Steve Gosling's new book portraying his journey in Antarctica. I was immediately drawn to the B&W images in the book and especially to one of an abandoned whaler's boat which was rendered in the most wonderful rich tones. Steve was also my initial inspiration for starting pinhole photography. My wife and I were lucky enough to be on a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula in 2013 so as homage to Steve and with a nod to both Antarctica and pinhole photography, I thought I would share my pinhole version of the same whaler's boat on Half Moon Island.
(Also check out Dave Mead Landscape Photography on Flickr. [https://www.flickr.com/photos/dmlp/ ] Dave has recently posted some lovely images of the same trip from 2013)
