Exploring the light from different sources just when they seemed to balance. That is what a half moon looks like in a minute long exposure. It was too high up, even a very wide angle (72mm on 4x5 about the equivalent of 20mm in 135) was not enough to include its reflection.
When I was a kid, there were only one set of traffic lights in my entire county, over in Annapolis Royal. Talk about a rural life. Fifteen years or so ago, they set some up in Middleton as well. Down here in the center of Lawrencetown, all you get is a single orange beacon, eternally flashing slow. It's not so much a nighttime necessity, what with traffic being eternally sporadic much past summer sunset. You can really take your time crossing the street, and I sure did, gazing up at a half moon rising while darkness fell. Things take a long time to turn over here, a wide-eyed dream drifting down to sleep. Still a long way off for me. I've always loved to split my day somewhat even between light and dark, though in the winter, I surely get a lot more night. It's just about level right now, like I'm standing on a seesaw, ready to tilt from one end to the next.

Half Moon WMA lies outside of Inverness along the floodplain of Mill Creek, Gum Slough, and the Withlacoochee River. It makes an excellent place to explore on horseback or bike, and offers dedicated hiking trails as well.

Half Moon Island has a sizable rookery of chinstrap penguins as well as nesting Antarctic terns and kelp gulls. Whales are often seen patrolling the shores, and this small island offers stunning views of surrounding mountains.
Shot this laying down in my back yard, because my tripod is burried in the trunk of my car, and I didn't feel like diggin' it out. I cropped, and enlarged it in PS7, and that's it !
Took this shot of the red half moon as it was still over the city before disappearing. The pin points of light were from some of the buildings in Metrotown, Burnaby, BC. I took this shot from my balcony, but with no tripod.

Used Aurifil 50/2 light grey (2600) from Pink Chalk Fabrics www.pinkchalkfabrics.com/ to quilt straight lines 1/4" on each side of the vertical seams. Love how this color of thread blends more readily with all the quilt colors than a white thread would have.
EQ7 was helpful in laying out this quilt & especially in designing the back!
Really, really like this pattern & will make it again.

The Camas Prairie Railroad line in north central Idaho was often referred to as the railroad on stilts due to the many trestles, like this one, on the line! In the approximately twelve miles between Culdesac, Idaho and the top of the grade at the edge of the Camas Prairie, the railroad climbs close to 2,000 feet. This famed stretch includes seven tunnels (now 6 as one was 'daylighted') and eighteen trestles! The most famous of these trestles is the Half Moon Trestle, this is a graceful 684 feet arc, 141 feet above the ground! This was built using one million board feet of timber! While this retired railroad may not be known to most people outside the area, the engineering on this line is famous throughout the industry. If you saw the 1975 western Breakheart Pass with Charles Bronson, you would have seen these trestles in the movie! They are a great part of the history in this region.
