The weather has been unkind for the last 2 weeks. Today's weather was mild and stable since morning fog. Found the half moon enticingly beautiful in the clear blue evening sky, so I put in on top of the barren trees...

We stopped in Half Moon Bay, California on our way down the coastline. Beautiful country! And, I love the name of this town. There were two large bushes laden with these blossoms in front of their jail built in 1911. The jail is maybe 800 sf...there must not be a lot of crime in Half Moon Bay.

The Half Moon Swimming Club was founded in 1898 at the Great South Wall in Dublin. It was known then as "The Poolbeg Bathers Association". In the years that followed, the name was changed to Half Moon Swimming Club to reflect more accurately the fact that members of the club were participating in swimming competitions held at the time. What is now our clubhouse sits approximately halfway along the Great South Wall, built originally in an area known as Poolbeg, to create a shipping channel into Dublin Port. It was once a station for an army gun battery whose function was to protect the entrance to the port. The gun turret was mounted in a 'half moon' shape, thus lending to the name of the club Consequently, the clubhouse is referred to as 'the Wall', 'the Poolbeg', 'the Battery', or 'the Half Moon'

Winter has a way of slowly grinding you down. Day after day of gray and wet, will eventually depress even an Eskimo. And then one day, you fling open the window and spring is right there in front of you, wearing her finest wardrobe with all the colorful accessories, and you're suddenly filled with a swell of happiness that surges from head to foot and back again. That's what I'm talking about.

Two cells and a small office remind us of simpler days on the Coastside during the first half of this century. The jail was built in 1911, and served law enforcement until 1969.
Well, access to Martin's Beach -- legal access, that is -- has been restored. I was able to make it there in time for sunset yesterday evening -- it's a beautiful spot. It happened to be low tide when I was there, and that made for some algae-rific and kelp-tastic foreground action.
Right now you still have to get around an automatic gate, but that's easy; I wonder whether a proper footpath will ever be put in. Regardless, I'll be back soon, I'm sure.
When I was there I met two other photographers, but I lost their Flickr contact info, so I hope they read this and leave a note -- nice meeting you, gents!
I hope everyone's weekend is going well.

I spent a delightful Saturday sunset with the Famous Flickr Five+ Group at Half Moon Bay in Black Rock where we ate delicious fish and hot chips from the Cerberus Beach House before wandering along the beach to the sandstone pillars for sunset.
There were lots of beautiful treasures swept up onto the beach and clinging to the rocks in the shallows including colourful and dark starfish, sea snails, kelp and patterned shells.
Half Moon Bay is a beautiful beach located in the Melbourne suburb of Black Rock, about twenty-two kilometers south-east of Mebourne's centre.
In the bay the iconic shipwreck of the HMVS Cerberus sits just above the waterline. A naval vessel that predates Australian Federation in 1901, this ship is both living history and testament to Australia's maritime tradition.
Since its decommissioning shortly after the Great War, the HMVS Cerberus has served as a breakwater.
In addition to the bay and the HMVS Cerberus, there are also the wonderful sandstone cliffs of Red Bluff. Viewed at sunset their many colours are on full show and you could be forgiven for thinking momentarily that you were in Utah.
Carnival has a private beach on Half Moon Cay, in The Bahamas.
We always enjoy our time there. As you an see, the water is a beautiful aqua color and crystal clear.
