Flickr Group Roulette's pick was Don't Do That. I spent the day on an airport at an airshow looking for forbidding signs. They were frustratingly absent. :-(

Finally I found a NO PUSH sign on the back of an aircraft. I reached out and pushed it. Then, I noticed that the aircrewman was scowling at me. Oops. Maybe I shouldn't have pushed?

What to do with a newspaper by Dave 77459

FGR today asked to display unusual uses for newspapers. This presented an extra challenge for me.

First, there is no way I would actually pay for my hometown Pravda. They won't get a penny from me, not while they remain an organ of the leftists. Not while there remains any alternative, and lets face it, if you can't find a new media replacement for newspapers today you are just ignorant.

I went to two offices that reliably have the Barnacle. I guess I waited until too late in the day, because both had thrown the paper out.

So, what you have here is our neighborhood newspaper instead of the Houston daily.

Finally, I had to figure what someone would actually do with a newspaper, given that they are aren't worth reading. I guess, in a pinch, you could prop up a wobbly chair. *shrugs*

Strobist info: I put the 430EX @ 1/64th power to image right, to provide more dramatic lighting and make the parquet floor's seams more visible. Secondary light is from the kitchen to the back left. I used manual exposure since the cheap eBay remote doesn't allow for E-TTL operation.

For FGR, the group of the day is "Hat Monday". And I have this amazing hat that's fluffy all over and really warm that I wanted to use. And I wanted to use a shallow DOF so that the tip of the hat is in focus but my eyes are out of focus. I played around with one shot and did several edits, and only got to this one on complete accident because I messed up all the levels so much I couldn't get back to where I was before, so I just kept going. I'm really happy with it. I accomplished what I set out to accomplish, in the words of a friend :)

That's it for flickr-ing for me for the day. Spent way too much time on here. Thankfully, it was a day off work.

Flickr Group Roulette: Tee Shirts

Quite possibly my all-time favorite tee (although I never seem to wear it, probably out of fear I'll ruin it!?) I had this made just before I left Argentina after a year of living there in high-school.

Before I ever went my mom had handed me Mafalda books to read... but once I lived there, I began to truly understand and appreciate the intense political commentary and cultural humor... this: cracks me up, to no end. Guille, basically a baby, speaking volumes with his hand... very, very argentine. I still find myself doing this, although no one has any clue why-the-ma-heck I am... nor what it might mean. And yet, it seems so blatantly obvious to me in the moment! *giggle*

Truth be told, I don't really have any space that I can call my own. What little I've got resides within the walls of my fort. In here I can do what I want to do and be who I want to be. I am a social creature by nature, but it's really nice to occasionally shut the world out and get to better know your own self. For a fort, the color purple is not required, but it is highly recommended.

And for the record, pickles taste like ass. As does your face.

For FGR - Your Hometown.

This is my "new" hometown, Québec City. There is no where else in the world that I would love to call my home, except for maybe San Francisco (my birthplace), but then again, maybe not... I love Québec that much! Even for being the capital of Québec, it's a big city with a small town feel. There's so much history, and so much culture here, it's hard not to fall in love on your first visit.

I wanted to get a picture with the "Welcome to Québec" sign in the Plains of Abraham, but I had to work late today, and afterward, I had to go in the opposite direction to pick up my son from school, so, I used this sign instead, since it was on the way home.

Yeah. So. I totally misunderstood today's FGR challenge, I'm a poser. When I read it this morning, I thought it meant I would post what I liked about myself. Now I see that it is supposed to be what makes me want to have sex with myself. Damn.

Since I was inspired by my take, I'm running with it.

I like my eyes most of all. I like their color, and how that shifts from day to day. I think they are expressive and convey my mood. I acted quite a lot as a yute, and learned to work my eyes so that they talked for me. I have a full complement of "looks" that I can shoot. I love that, especially when I give out the "sparkly eyed in-the-mood look."

And I decided, since I was being honest, to show what I hate about myself most. I don't hate the scar from my accident, or my Michelin Man physique. I hate my smile.

My mom took some drug when I was in the womb that left my teeth pitted. They can never be shiny white. I was horribly self-conscience as a yute and stopped smiling with my teeth. Then I stopped caring about them, giving them up. Even now, I'd rather buy a motorcycle than have the teeth of my dreams. I hate my teeth enough that I don't even care to improve them. So take a good look tonight, because it is a rare toothy smile.

Oh, but to complete the challenge, when I look at my eyes in the mirror, and give myself that look, I call up my good friend Rosie.
