For FGR - Happy Birthday FGR!!!! Time to Kick It Old Skool!!!!!
Also added to Copycats (copied off this picture) and Chocohol!cs.
I tried to copy a couple of other shots, but my mouth was too small for one, and the other, I'm just not as pretty and talented as she is.
This isn't exactly like the original photographer, but I like it. :)
Yes, I am a huge chocohol!c. I have a stash in my room just full of chocolate, and it doesn't phase me to spend at least 20 bucks when buying the stuff. If I don't have any in the house, I go plum nuts. Honestly, after moving to Canada, I prefer their chocolate a lot more than American chocolate, hence, the Aero bar instead of a Hershey bar. I do try to let the bubbles melt. ;)
Josh and I went to the GameOn! computer games exhibition in London today. Along with many playable classic arcade machines and home computers, there were demonstrations of the PS3 and the Wii.
Slightly unfair comparison of the two, I felt as the PS3 was showing what looked like a pretty dodgy rocky-terrain driving game (see here) on a 30" display while the Wii was showing Wii Tennis (arguably the best of all the Wii games to date) on both a 30" display and a massive projected display (120"?)!
The staff were also allowing people to basically jump the queue to play the Wii while the PS3 people had to wait for hours for their allotted time!
Needless to say, Nintendo were sponsoring the entire exhibition.
In spite of the above, however, I really wasn't impressed with the PS3 - just looks like a me-too product now with old games given a face-lift. I hope in time I'm proven wrong.

If it's not blatantly obvious, I'm a huge gamer. I actually don't think I could function without them. Most of my co-workers, are not. It's quite common for me to become quite giddy over a new game coming out, especially if it's something I've been wanting for awhile.
Yeah, gamers are a little more accepted mainstream now, but when the walls of your home are plastered with these sprites (the 1up mushroom isn't the only one!), it should be quite obvious that the residents are geeks.
If you're wondering also, since it's not really visible, the graphic on my shirt is from an old PC game called Oregon Trail. That game itself holds a lot of pleasant memories for me.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta get back to playing GTAIV, and then get on WoW to get the server info for my friend.
You don't have to be a textbook nerd/geek to be one. :)
35 days left!
FGR: 80's Songs. In the 80's it was all about the band I was in: Cement Trampoline. That's me on the left with the bitchen 80's hair (no grey either!). The cover was shot by rock photographer Hugh Brown. We rented Gillman St. in Berkeley in the morning and Hugh had brought that backdrop from L.A. where he rented it at some movie/film prop house. We suspect it was from some circus movie from the 30's or 40's. Anyway it was hung from the ceiling and used as the background for this record.
Today's FGR group is Thoughtless Acts—things you do without thinking.
Sad to say, not all people close their mouth when they chew. Thanks to many whacks upside the head, I don't smack.
Strobist Info: 430EX @ 1/16 to photo back right fired using the cheap eBay radio remotes. It was bounced on the ceiling to give a bit of back "hair lighting" and to reduce shadows.

It's another FGR combination day: MIDDLE FINGERs and Work Bathroom Wednesdays.
I told myself I would skip FGR combo days because I disapprove of them. But hell, why not take the chance to tell FGR what I think of combo days?
Note to Mija: I was smiling in the stall
So I was really stoked for FGR today, with 90's Pop Culture being the group we were doing.... then I blanked, totally! I had a few ideas, which all failed miserabley... But then I did some minor salvaging..and triptych'd it out!
And having long ago watched both VH1's I Love the 90's, and I Love the 90's; Part Deux, how could I not have done better on this?!
On top, with my hand, of course, the George Foreman grill, came about, and I use the heck out of mine. Not as much anymore, but it was most defintely a piece of MY 90's.
Then in the middle is of course, Al & Peg,on spike, and this is one of the failed pictures mentioned above, but I loved that show so much, I had to keep it in there for sheer nostalgia!
Then on bottom, with my feet of course, are only a few of my fave 90's TV and movies...from L to R..
Toy Story
The Wedding Singer, (although based on the 80's, the movie was from the 90's, and I LOVE it!
Family Guy came out in the 90's, and I'm hooked.
The classic, Office Space beneath that... hey that's my red stapler!
Forrest Gump... and that's all I have to say about that.
And South Park.. hehe.. I'm dorktastik though, remember?
And don't forget this is day 145/365... have I really made it that far?!?!

FGR today wanted us to highlight the potato. Dinner plans tonight precluded partaking of potatoes, and Jamie is eating healthy. *sigh*
But THEN, she decided to have lunch with an old friend, leaving me free to join the boys for lunch. I stayed quiet as destinations were discussed, reasoning I could always get chips or something. Instead, the guy with the car drove to Sandwich King as if drawn by a magnet.
The place was a revelation. For five bucks American, we got the"chef's special": a burger, fries, and a fountain drink. It all tasted good, and even the pop was properly mixed (sometimes cheaper places lean out the mix so you get a weak drink. Not so, here.)
The 6oz burger was pre-fab. Dense and not too moist, the condiments helped out. To it's credit, there was lots of flavor and the salad was fresh. It was OK, and would probably be great to those of you who aren't blessed to live in Houston.
The fries, though, were awesome. I was suspicious, since they clearly come from a bag. However, they were double fried, just the way I love them. The resulting fry was crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside. I enjoyed them enormously.
What a great find on a day celebrating The Potato!
I give the meal a B, helped quite a bit by the fries. If you consider the price, it is a B+.
Happy Birthday to Hillary, who is awesome
Goal: This project was to formally establish a branding for our local church's small groups program.
Audience: It aimed to reach out both to those who are attending our church, as well as those who are not.
Direction: The initial instructions were simple - they wanted a purple-themed design with a simple icon that will say "you are part of a group".
On this particular material, we wanted to have a "sports group".
Project: The entire project started with the branding (logo), and eventually progressed to print materials (tarpaulins, posters) and digital materials (Facebook timeline covers). Development is still an ongoing.
Other important info: Yeah, I was asked by our pastor to work on this.
For the complete design development story, visit:
For FGR, the group of the day is "Hat Monday". And I have this amazing hat that's fluffy all over and really warm that I wanted to use. And I wanted to use a shallow DOF so that the tip of the hat is in focus but my eyes are out of focus. I played around with one shot and did several edits, and only got to this one on complete accident because I messed up all the levels so much I couldn't get back to where I was before, so I just kept going. I'm really happy with it. I accomplished what I set out to accomplish, in the words of a friend :)
That's it for flickr-ing for me for the day. Spent way too much time on here. Thankfully, it was a day off work.

For FGR - Random fascinations. And my random fascination? Photoshop of course! It continues to mock me yet I can't not use it. And making ring shapes in Photoshop, that randomly fascinates me too. I hope that's random enough. If not then alien membrane is my random fascination (read on to find out the relevance of that bit of bullshit).
50mm experimentation + going Photoshop mental = tired eyes and certain ambivalence towards this shot.
Basically I can't decide if it's shit or not. The reason I did it is because I had some sort of primeval urge to have some fun in Photoshop. I'll pause for a second to let you imagine primeval man enjoying the pleasures of digital post-processing . . .
. . . uh, hi! Hope you had fun. Yeah . . . sooooooo . . . this shot. Does not look good at this size, let's be honest. Bigger may be better but I haven't got as far as sorting the link out yet so we'll have to wait and see.
The idea was meant to be that it looked as though the tips of my fingers were protruding through some kind of weird, semi-solid liquidy substance. Some kind of alien membrane let's say. It took me about two and a half hours to get it looking any kind of decent - in the end I had to draw the line and just stop.
There's four layers of textures over the original shot. If you're interested, I shall explain my methods. If not you might just wanna skip the next several paragraphs . . .
The first thing I did was to create a new layeron top of the original shot. I used the gradient tool set to 'radial gradient' and made a circular gradient shape. Then I used the magic wand and clicked about one third of the way inside the shape. This selects a ring shape (also handy for making halos). I copied that to a new layer, moved and resized it to fit one finger then repeated this for each of the remaining fingers. Then I merged the all those layers to one. It's easier to keep track that way and you can still move your rings around individually if you need to.
This is where it got tricky for me and my explanation may get vague . . .
I used the emboss filter on the layer with the ring shapes, with these parameters: height: 29 pixels, amount 87% - you'd have to play around with the angle depending on lighting.
The important thing to remember about this layer is to make sure there's nothing else on it apart from the ring shapes - I tried using a black background but when you emboss the layer it picks up the black and you can't blend the layer without obscuring the base image.
I think the next thing I did was to use gaussian blur on the rings, setting the radius to about 7 pixels. Then I used the glass filter on the rings layer, with settings I've forgotten now, before using gaussian blur again with the radius set to about 5 pixels.
Then I overlaid a TTV texture, a scratchy kinda texture, a bokeh kinda texture and finally a leather seat kinda texture, just to give the overall image a bit of depth and . . . well, texture! There's some layer blending going on as well as some adjusting of opacity/fill levels.
I also embossed the leather seat kinda texture as this seemed to improve the image - though I couldn't say exactly what it did to do that, it just looked a bit better and more realistic to my (tired) eyes.
I do think that's about it, there's a bit of Lightroom in there to change exposure and saturation levels, the DoF is courtesy of Sir Fiddy and the gormless expression hidden away behind the bokeh is all my own work.
You probably didn't want to know all that but . . . what the hell. It'll help remind me should I ever try anything this dumb again eh?
Yep, it's better bigger . . . well, it looks that way to me. Please check it out!
EDIT: Massive thanks to the totally cool Geekgirly for making this shot look much better (see comment below). Luckily I still had the image open in Photoshop so I changed it as per her suggestion. Thanks GG, now I can go to sleep!

For FGR - Self with Camera (I had the idea and couldn't be bothered waiting 12 hours for it to get light and then get dark again so that the exposures weren't comletely messed up by the changing light outside, but purely by chance, the first exposure was taken at 00:01, so I suppose it qualifies for being taken on Saturday)
This is a HDR panoramic image. I took 9 exposures (+4, +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3, -4) across the "desk". 72 images in total. Each set of exposures was blended with Enfuse with no special settings. Then I cropped each HDR image to just the center third and used those crops to make the panorama in Hugin.
For FGR - Self-Reflection.
*The Mage of the Weeping*
This is how I feel mostly every day on the inside, so I'll spare passing the depressing feelings around. This sums up some of how I feel, especially recently.
I don't know if I like this or not, since it's not exactly how I wanted it to be. I couldn't get the angle right on the mirror and the camera. I hope I didn't miss the point today.

The excuse “FGR made me do it” is starting to wear rather thin these days, but this is my one last bit of foolishness before Christmas... (I can’t imagine anything below will make sense to the “normal” clean living people of flickr)
Today’s task consisted of four groups
FGR Meetups - More than one FGR member in a attendance
Knobs and Knockers - "Door knobs" get your mind out of the gutter
Dare Dares You - I dare you to do ....
Go f**k yourself - errm...
I think I have managed to sort of tick most of the boxes. Maggie has featured in a couple of my other FGR 365 shots so that makes her an honorary FGR member, therefore the two of us constitutes a meet.... sort of? Knobs and knockers... see the note :) The dare was the see how many marshmallows we could fit in each of our respective mouths. And finally the Agincourt salute, which is kind of the UK version of flipping the bird.. and for the bonus round a haiku..
When all hell breaks loose,
Thanks for marshmallows and friends
Happy Christmas FGR
Thanks go to Maggie for tolerating my foolishness this evening, because there can't be many people who would put up this nonsense. Plus we don’t know who won the marshmallow competition because we forgot to count :(
Lightroom: auto levels, crop, post crop vignette, tweak levels, save to JPG
Strobist: 580ex @1/4 above camera into shoot through umbrella, 110cm silver reflector on the floor in front of the camera, I dont think I have made best use of it here but I can see potential in this setup...
April 4th - Complaint Department and Yoga Poses.
Last semester my best friend talked me into taking a PE class at school called "Exercise for Fitness" that was offered Saturday mornings on campus. It was an okay class and the teacher was really nice, but one complaint I had was when we did yoga. Either I don't understand yoga or it just isn't for me because I found it completely boring. I was unable to shut off my mind and just concentrate on my breathing, and during the moments when everyone was silent and listening to the light sounds of the music, I just wanted to fall asleep. I didn't feel like it was a work-out at all, but it did beat running laps down on the track! ;-)
TRF: This is the only "pose" I remember from that class, and I of course have no idea what it's called. All I know is that it's good for stretching your back.

For FGR - Half Dressed Tuesdays
I tried other things, but every angle, pose, amount of clothing on really made me feel self-conscious.
Like most women, there's parts of me that I dislike, and my weight happens to be one of them. Yeah, no surprise there!
So, with that being said, I'm quite satisfied with this shot since my stomach and excess flab isn't hanging out as much for everyone to poke at. ;)
For FGR & The Rogue Players - Drawing on Faces & Playing With Yourself, respectively.
This is what you get when you fall asleep at work... hehe
I had nearly the whole office in on it today... including myself. I wrote the dork because no one else wanted to be mean, no matter how much I prodded for them to do so. I just told them not to draw any dicks on my face. heh
For FGR - music in my mind.
I'm out my little "oh woe is me" funk that I was in earlier. Why are women always on an emotional roller coaster, or is it just me?
Anyway, I always have this damn song stuck in my head. It's either this, or Don't Cry Out. So, it was really a toss up between these two songs, and this one won. Even on my mp3 player, it's right at that spot where he sings "Hold your glass up/hold it in"
I would have preferred to have held my glass up in a bar for celebration, but that just wasn't going to happen today...
Day 140
Today's group in Flickr Group Roulette, is Founder's Day.
Most 365ers are honouring the founder of the 365 Days Project's group, Chris Maverick. Everyone is picking from his 365 Days shots and copy catting one.
I chose this one, because with Jaymi coming home from camp today and my mother-in-law coming over for most of the afternoon & evening, it was a busy day and I didn't have time to attempt a more complicated picture. I like this one anyway - it's nice and simple.
This is also the 1st of 5 things that you will learn about me, for GTWL's theme for this week - 5 New Things.
On this hand (my right), usually you will see my Mom ring. When I was pregnant with my daughter, during the last 1 or 2 months of my pregnancy, I could no longer wear my wedding ring because my fingers were getting too swollen. So as a surprise for me, my wonderful husband went out and bought me a special diamond ring to wear on my right hand's ring finger (because my wedding ring wouldn't fit properly on my right hand at all). That ring was special also because when you look at it from the side, the gold is shaped like the word "MOM". Every time I look at that ring, I remember my pregnancy, and the excitement of becoming a new mom.
For Flickr Group Roulette and Caption This
You can caption either what I might be saying, what Belle might be thinking or give it a general caption.
FGR invades The Duct Tape Revolution;
If you've ever been to college, then certainly you've experienced the revolution that is "Edward 40 Hands".
No?
Well it's just like the Tim Burton movie starring Johny Depp, but instead of scissors as hands, you have a pair of 40oz's.
The rules are simple and they are as follows:You can't take the duct tape off until you've consumed both of your 40 ounce bottles of malt liquor.
Childish? Yes.
A little ghetto? Yes.
More entertaining than watching a couple valley girls fight over who had worse hair in middle school? Maybe.
And as you might have already been wondering, yes, the act of urination can be a little difficult with all of your fingers duct taped to two drinks. At that point, the buddy system is highly recommended.

Flickr Group Roulette and Acting A Fool In Public
It's much more face-plant-y-er like this.
I've been tagged by dracorubio (gee, thanks) to reveal 10 things about myself, and then to pass the buck to 10 others. Here ya go.
1. I felt like a total dork taking this shot.
2. The old guy across the street was "sneaking" a peek through the crack in the curtains while I set this up.
3. This is the first time that I can remember that I used a lens other than my 50mm for a self-portrait.
4. I'm terrible at all things having to do with money or finances. Seriously.
5. Gay. Duh.
6. I can be a complete asshole and not even realize it until long afterward.
7. All my friends who just thought to themselves "duh!" can just go fuck off :)
8. I grew up in southern Ontario, Canada (London, actually) until the age of 12 or so.
9. Absolutely addicted to the Stargate shows. I have to watch them to get to sleep -- better than ambien.
10. I love the word scrotum. It's absolutely hilarious to me. I'm giggling right now, just typing it.
Tagging:
Jesus, that was more of a pain in the ass than the photo :)

FGR picked Seinfeld as the topic of the day. I was initially not going to do it, despite loving Seinfeld. But then I started telling Jamie of my brush with Seinfeld and decided to share with you.
My Ex's uncle was responsible for bringing Seinfeld to NBC. He is still a senior executive there, and a marvelous guy. I was working on a project in L.A., and one Sunday he invited me to visit the set of the Seinfeld show while they did the blocking.
Uncle introduced me to the producer of the episode, who joked with me and declared me clever. Then I met "Kramer", Michael Richards. He pitched to Uncle to be the host of SNL, suggesting one skit could be a remake of his famous Fridays skit where he played with toy soldiers. I remember him being very tall and intense in an over-caffeinated sort of way.
Then we went in to see them block the show. The writers delivered the scripts to the stars on Friday, they did a read-through on Saturday, then acted the show on Sunday to see how it played. So there I was, watching them do the first walking run-through of the show. My job, along with the other hangers-on, was to laugh at the funny bits so they could know where the pauses for laughter needed to be during taping in a few days. Parts showing promise would be further refined.
The episode that I watched was called The Pool Boy. (The link says "Guy", but my marked original script says "Boy" and that is my memory, so the website is wrong. :) There were a few things that stood out:
* Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Elaine") played the part of "Newman", because Wayne Knight was busy filming a movie or something. She was damn funny as Newman—she powned him!
* Kramer's new phone number is only one letter away from MovieFone, so he is getting misdirected calls asking for movie times. Instead of getting a new number, he decides to be helpful and give out the movie times by reading the newspaper. The funniest moment is when George calls Kramer and… well, the dialogue is hilarious. Imagine a guy listening to the phone, trying to figure out what keys are being pressed. Julie Louis-Dreyfus' ringing laughter was priceless!
Anyways, this explains the photo. I'm the MovieFone guy.
Funny stuff.
For FGR "My Hometown"
So this is a massive cheat but I can't do a shot taken in my hometown as im living on the other side of the world at the moment but I still really wanted to play, I haven't had a fug all week!!
All I know is, if I was still living in my hometown, it would be freezing at the moment (according to my sources) and I would be mostly wearing my deerstalker. Man I miss hats, scarves and gloves. And boots. And leather jackets. And tights. And massive jumpers.
