This took forever to figure out how to put together. I'm just a newb with the editing aspect of photography and trying to figure it out on my own....... I think it came out fairly well all in all =)

For FGR "My Hometown"

So this is a massive cheat but I can't do a shot taken in my hometown as im living on the other side of the world at the moment but I still really wanted to play, I haven't had a fug all week!!

All I know is, if I was still living in my hometown, it would be freezing at the moment (according to my sources) and I would be mostly wearing my deerstalker. Man I miss hats, scarves and gloves. And boots. And leather jackets. And tights. And massive jumpers.

[Music theme "Seasons Change" by Corinne Bailey-Rae (see day 6/365 for more details)].

FGR picked Seinfeld as the topic of the day. I was initially not going to do it, despite loving Seinfeld. But then I started telling Jamie of my brush with Seinfeld and decided to share with you.

My Ex's uncle was responsible for bringing Seinfeld to NBC. He is still a senior executive there, and a marvelous guy. I was working on a project in L.A., and one Sunday he invited me to visit the set of the Seinfeld show while they did the blocking.

Uncle introduced me to the producer of the episode, who joked with me and declared me clever. Then I met "Kramer", Michael Richards. He pitched to Uncle to be the host of SNL, suggesting one skit could be a remake of his famous Fridays skit where he played with toy soldiers. I remember him being very tall and intense in an over-caffeinated sort of way.

Then we went in to see them block the show. The writers delivered the scripts to the stars on Friday, they did a read-through on Saturday, then acted the show on Sunday to see how it played. So there I was, watching them do the first walking run-through of the show. My job, along with the other hangers-on, was to laugh at the funny bits so they could know where the pauses for laughter needed to be during taping in a few days. Parts showing promise would be further refined.

The episode that I watched was called The Pool Boy. (The link says "Guy", but my marked original script says "Boy" and that is my memory, so the website is wrong. :) There were a few things that stood out:

* Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Elaine") played the part of "Newman", because Wayne Knight was busy filming a movie or something. She was damn funny as Newman—she powned him!

* Kramer's new phone number is only one letter away from MovieFone, so he is getting misdirected calls asking for movie times. Instead of getting a new number, he decides to be helpful and give out the movie times by reading the newspaper. The funniest moment is when George calls Kramer and… well, the dialogue is hilarious. Imagine a guy listening to the phone, trying to figure out what keys are being pressed. Julie Louis-Dreyfus' ringing laughter was priceless!

Anyways, this explains the photo. I'm the MovieFone guy.

Funny stuff.

For FGR - Painting re-enactment & TOTW - ROYG,BIV (Green)

So this is Magritte's "La Production Interdite" done in the style of Banksy. OK, somewhat weird, but I had fun doing it.

Think I'm going to add this to the TRP - Shakespeare's Words theme as well, having just spent the last 30 mins trolling though the web to find a suitable quote to match this to.

Hamlet:

My father—methinks I see my father—

Horatio:

Where, my lord?

Hamlet:

In my mind's eye, Horatio.

Hamlet Act 1, scene 2,

"In my mind's eye" is the only place I see my father now as he passed away several years ago. Other people see him in me however. I recently went back to my hometown for a funerl of an old family friend. Many people there remarked how similar I look to him. I only see it occasionally in my photos... although this week's Stencil work makes these similarities show up more.

This is the result of boredom on a rainy afternoon. I had to pair these up with my newest digi designed papers.

Goal: This project was to formally establish a branding for our local church's small groups program.

Audience: It aimed to reach out both to those who are attending our church, as well as those who are not.

Direction: The initial instructions were simple - they wanted a purple-themed design with a simple icon that will say "you are part of a group".

On this particular material, we wanted to have a "sports group".

Project: The entire project started with the branding (logo), and eventually progressed to print materials (tarpaulins, posters) and digital materials (Facebook timeline covers). Development is still an ongoing.

Other important info: Yeah, I was asked by our pastor to work on this.

For 365, FGR invades Newspapers in Rare Form

Yeah. I'm still in my own garage.

Yeah. That's a frilly polka dot shirt with a BOW. That's right. A BOW and little frilly cap sleeves.

Yeah, That's a ballet flat on my foot.

Yeah. That's not really newspaper - that's my Fun Things for Kids to Do In Chandler advert that came in the mail.

Yeah. That's my "I'm so white!" thug face.

Alternate for FGR - Playing Dress-Up.

And of course, 365 Days. :)

I was so lost on how I would be able to participate in this since I don't have too many things I could dress up in, then it hit me... my wedding dress. It was actually made by my Mother and the pattern was a renaissance costume. The scepter and, I'm not sure what to call it, were bought at Thunder Over Louisville back in 2001. I love the renaissance era. :)

I know that part of the dress is washed out by the light, but I loved how natural my face looks in the portrait.

March 16th - Fake Crying, Home Office, and Fashionista!

You got a better look at my desk on day 34, and there really ain't much more to see. I don't even sit here half the time since I have a laptop; I travel mostly between the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Fashion: Everyone seems to have a different take on how to present this theme, so I've decided to just share something about the favorite thing I'm wearing each day. My earrings (not easily seen, but oh well... click all sizes to try for a closer look) are roses carved from tiger's eye gemstone. They go with a matching necklace that I'm also wearing (and you also can't see). I got them on 50% clearance at Mervyn's (RIP) to go with my Halloween costume last year.

TRF: I'm a believer in the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

For FGR - What I had for lunch today.

I had to go in to renew my medical card today at the SAAQ (kinda like the DMV), so after waiting in line for about 1/2 an hour, we headed over to the food court and lunch. The boys had McDonalds, and I had some Chez Ashton. Hubby ordered me a medium poutine, which was way too much. I ate only about half of it. It's not my favourite type, it was okay.

If you ever come to Quebec, the best place in the city to get poutine is at Chez Gaston. Hands down.

For 365 Days, FGR, and TOTW.

March 7th - Live The Change and Technique.

I recycle. For some reason, our recyle can is smaller than our garbage can, so it fills up pretty quickly as it's only picked up once every two weeks. We also reuse a lot of things, like boxes, bottles, and bags. This is the only recycled shopping bag I have so far, but I plan to get more. If you can read the bag (might want to view large), it says "Recycled & New Fashions." I always donate clothes, shoes, purses and other accessories to Goodwill, and now am starting to donate kitchen appliances too!

(Note: male domestic long hair feline not included with purchase of bag).

Technique: Lighting from bathroom lights, no flash. Uploaded to Picnik... applied Boost effect, cropped.

TRF: Jerry is kind of recycled... I adopted him from my friend's grandmother who couldn't take care of him anymore. That was over 6 years ago, and now of course I never think of him as anything less than 100% mine. He's the best "recycled" pet anyone could ask for!

It's much more face-plant-y-er like this.

I've been tagged by dracorubio (gee, thanks) to reveal 10 things about myself, and then to pass the buck to 10 others. Here ya go.

1. I felt like a total dork taking this shot.

2. The old guy across the street was "sneaking" a peek through the crack in the curtains while I set this up.

3. This is the first time that I can remember that I used a lens other than my 50mm for a self-portrait.

4. I'm terrible at all things having to do with money or finances. Seriously.

5. Gay. Duh.

6. I can be a complete asshole and not even realize it until long afterward.

7. All my friends who just thought to themselves "duh!" can just go fuck off :)

8. I grew up in southern Ontario, Canada (London, actually) until the age of 12 or so.

9. Absolutely addicted to the Stargate shows. I have to watch them to get to sleep -- better than ambien.

10. I love the word scrotum. It's absolutely hilarious to me. I'm giggling right now, just typing it.

For FGR : I am...

i can't believe January is already over!

I've have been tagged by phoebe ! in the 10 random facts game... I just did it two weeks ago on this shot but I will try it again!

1. on my college diploma it lists my middle name as lousie not louise. I should really ask them to reissue it but ehh

2. i rely on my humor when I am nervous or feel uncomfortable... so most people would describe me as very funny, but its kind of a sham to hid my being shy..

3. if it were possible I would wear sandals all year

4. i kind of dislike summer... I hate being hot and my hair is always out of control in the heat and humidity

5. I am really, really good at the driving range, however actually playing the game of golf is super hard because my aim is terrible.

6. i am moving with my family in about two weeks and i am loathing the idea of the actual moving part... but when its all done it will be okay

7. i was engaged my first year of college, i didn't go through with it because i found out he had a different idea of monogamy than i did. my grandmother still to this day tells me i gave up my one chance at happiness. i have yet to convince her that life would not have made me happy. she is very much the type that thinks a girl needs a guy to be a complete woman, and the fact that I am 25 and unmarried terrifies her.

8. i call my sisters and my cat by many of the same nicknames

9. i am unable to buy fun jewelry because in my head I am always saying "i can so make that and better"

10. I love reading! I will sometimes get caught up and stay up all night reading.. so i have to be careful.

November 27th - Tune Flickr ♫ (put music in your photos) and The Love(s) of My Life.

"It don't take a word / Not a single word / Go on and kiss the girl"

The Little Mermaid - Kiss The Girl

Once upon a time there was a girl named Christina and a boy named Eric. This boy and this girl had known each other for a long time and had quite a history together. Having gone to the same high school and hanging out with the same group of friends eventually led them toward dating and falling in love. Three and a half years later their relationship painfully ended when the girl was ready for more and the boy was not. However, after three months had passed following the break-up, the boy realized he was in fact ready for more if the girl would take him back. They talked and talked and talked some more, and the girl was finally convinced of his devotion and love and said yes to the love of her life.

Big Twirl on white.

Oh my god. The things I do for you, FGR. I get so stupid motion sick, it's ridiculous.

I put my camera on its multiple-shot setting and held down the shutter. The plan was to pick the best, but it turned out much more interesting to show you Fuggers the progression that led up to me regurgitating my lunch like that of a mother bird caring for her stainless steel child.

Well, tomorrow is the big day! My first wedding shoot! I am pretty stoked about the whole thing and it should be a fun day.

Just getting familiar with some equipment I borrowed for tomorrow. I really like the 70-200mm. The D7000 is also very nice, but feels small in my hands after using the D300 for awhile now. I will probably go with the 70-200mm on the D300 and the 24-70mm on the D7000 for tomorrow. Plus my son is going to be shooting the D90 with the 50mm, so we should be covered for just about anything. Well, off to charge everything. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

For FGR : what makes me happy

I love old brooches, the sparkly-er the better!!! I love finding them at thrift stores for great prices! pretty vintage jewelry makes me very happy! I chose this one for my pic because I repaired it myself by reseting some of the stones and low temp re-soldering the pin back on.

In other news - - -> today I met with the insurance guy to finalize my car policy. I asked him if hitting something like a snowmobile was the same as hitting another car. I thought this was a perfectly reasonable question when he was explaining collision insurance, however my mom and the guy laughed at me. I was just curious...

For FGR - The People's Group of Professional Amateurism.

I've been a little bummed about the tempature starting to drop and the season beginning to change from Summer to Autumn until today when I realized that I will be able to bring out my "long sleeved t-shirts" and begin hiding myself under layers and layers of clothes.

I was a little confused at first with what this challenge today was until I logged on this morning to see what everyone else was doing. So, against what I had originally planned to do (since it wasn't a contradiction/oxymoron) I quickly thought of this. Honestly, I never knew that a long sleeved t-shirt was an oxymoron. You learn something new every day. :D

I was trying for a Rocky kind of shot, but I started laughing right when the timer went off. lol

FGR invades Fierce and Fabulous

Here it is, my lovely foo-bitches. Exceptionally fabulous. The blue-tooth insinuates “fierce” through business means. You see, I’m so important and fabulously fierce (business-wise) that I don’t even have the time to take off my Bluetooth for my 365.

In fact, I while taking this shot I was on the phone with Bruce Willis. I got him to sign on to do the lead voice the newest Pixar film.

True story.

It is the day for FLICKR GROUP ROULETTE's Relative Weather photo. - (we were assigned to show a physics related photo in honor of Einstein's unveiling of the Theory of Relativity 103 years ago today.) So here I am, laundry day. No socks, no sheets, a fishy bed, and a bokeh shot for FGR.

FGR today asked us to depict an awesome meme. I was all confused until I realized that "meme" is used in the non-English meaning:

What the hell is a meme, you ask?

An item of pop culture propogated via word of mouth. Usually used in reference to the latest cool website that is propogated by e-mail.

Is there anything more scorching hot today than Twitter? Unreasonably so? At least LOLCATS are not over-hyped like Twitter. *shrug*

For Friday's Flicker Group Roulette challenge...Little Feat -- Join the Band...featuring the songs of Little Feat. I was browsing through the list of song names and came across "Sample in a Jar". While I don't know much about Little Feat and am an admitted Phish head.

Its hidden far away

But someday I may tell

The tale of metal tangle

When into your world I fell

Without you now I wander soaking

Secretly afraid

cause in your grasp the fears don't last

and some of them have stayed

I wheeled around because i

Didn't hear what you had said

And saw you dancing with elihu

Up on leemor's bed

And I was foggy rather groggy, you helped me to my car

The binding belt enclosing me, a sample in a jar

And on the market stands unfolding

With all their willies and their wares

I shuffle by alert but numb

To all the glances and the glares

And I think of you unheeding

All the times I raise my cup

Its now I know that you knew that

I'd soon end up end up

The Wheel stops tonight on Tell it with a song and a photo. Although I generally think of "lyrics photos" as enormous creativity crutches, it gives me a chance to send Jamie a message:

I've seen the storm clouds in your past

But rest assured 'cause you are safe at home at last

I rescued you, you rescued me

And we're right where we should be

when we're together

I know the questions in your mind

But go ahead and ask me one more time

You'll find the answer's still the same

It won't change from day to day

for worse or better

Will I promise to be your best friend?

And am I here until the end?

Can I be sure I have been waiting for you?

And did I say my love is true?

Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I do!

I know the time will disappear

But this love we're building on will always be here

No way that this is sinking sand

On this solid rock we'll stand forever

Will I promise to be your best friend?

And am I here until the end?

Can I be sure I have been waiting for you?

And did I say my love is true?

Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I do!

Baby I will, I am, I can, I have

Oh, I will, I am, I can, I have

Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I DO!

-- Paul Brandt, I Do

This is my three hundred thirty eighth self portrait for 365 Days.

23 October 2007

Lit by dining room chandelier in background and the cheap-O eBay remote flash trigger to front photo right. The 430EX was head-high, pointed at the ceiling, and at 1/8 power.

For FGR - Story Telling Photos.

OK, this may look very familiar . . . yet more ghetto lighting. I've tried to put a different spin on it by trying out this idea I've had in my head for a while, my (slightly scary) take on the comedy/tragedy masks. It's not quite how I imagined it (in my head I was pulling funny faces and there was no ghetto lighting) but you work with what you get right? Half of me wants to apologise for not being ambitious, but the other half disagrees - I like ghetto lit shots, I think they're really cool and you can't apologise for that, can you?

Can you guess which one's comedy and which one's tragedy? I took these shots and I can hardly tell . . . must try harder not to look like a psycho when I'm smiling.

Now . . . this is my first shot for FGR. The theme for today was chosen by my good Flickr buddy rebecca *, and after her oh so subtle hints yesterday I decided I couldn't not join in

;-)

I've got to admit that I took this shot before I knew what the FGR theme would be, but as this idea was always meant to tell a story (of sorts) about myself it kind of fits. But only just.

The story has something to do with the two sides of Daz. Everyone has at least two sides to their personality of course, humans are complicated creatures after all. Well, some of them are. What we portray to those on the outside is usually very different to what's going on behind the scenes. I'm no different. But what I've noticed in my near thirty years is that the public face of Daz is a goofy, bad-joke cracking, easy going sort of person. Happy to do anything for anyone, anytime. Friendly even.

That would be the me grinning scarily on the right there. Perhaps a goofier face would've been more fitting?

The other Daz however, is none of these things. The real Daz is plagued by doubt. Sees the glass as half empty. Is definitely not a fan of other people. Has very specific views about the treatment of those that piss him off and those that show blatant disregard to others. This Daz could also be the scary smiling me but for the purposes of this story (is this a story?) is the overly serious me on the left.

The real Daz sits somewhere in between overly serious Daz and scarily smiling Daz I guess. This Daz is far too boring to include in this photo. The other two Daz's wouldn't let him in the shot anyway.

Here endeth the story.

So is this just enough to count for FGR today then? Hey, at least I've managed to smile in this shot, even if I do look like I'm about to stab someone in the jugular with a pen (a la Joe Pesci in Casino). I promise I'll play FGR again if you let this shot stay in the group . . .

Did you know (according to Wikipedia) Casino is the sweariest American film ever (excluding documentaries)? 422 uses of the word 'fuck'. In three hours. That's a good average per minute no? Call me childish but . . . that's just cool!

Oh and by the way this shot looks better big and on black

For Flickr Group Roulette and Things You May Not Know About Me.

When I was twelve years old, sick with a serious sinus infection, I realized the left side of my face wasn't working properly. Suddenly I could wink- I've never been able to wink properly (there's another thing you don't know about me). By day's end, the entire left side of my face wasn't working. I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. Thankfully, the healing process is much faster when the patient is younger- and only lasted 6 weeks. But at the time, it felt like an eternity.

And there you have it.

06.23.10

FGR

Well...it's technically Thursday now, so yay! I cant talk!!

This week, I found out one of my good friends has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Essentially, she has problems forming functional white blood cells and has to undergo chemotherapy and eventually receive a bone marrow transplant (thankfully, from her father). She first found out 10 years ago, battled through, but it has since come back. She said after the first two treatments, she will lose her hair and is already dreading the fact that her social life will be cut back dramatically because she will feel too self-conscious bald. Well, girl, you are still gorgeous in my eyes, and I will try my best to make you feel as beautiful as you want! Let's go wig shopping!! ♥ and prayers to you, my dear!

I took some shots of jeans at Kohl's because FGR is focusing today on Me and My Blue Jeans. Yeah, they were OK but not up to snuff.

At home, I asked Jamie where these old comfy jeans I had were. The ones with the hole in a location suitable to FGR's new 18+ status.

She pauses for a moment, then reminds me of the pictured jeans. These are the jeans I was wearing when I had my accident [don't look unless you have a strong stomach]. They had to cut my jeans to get them off my bloody stump of a leg.

So I put them on and I noticed right away that there was a problem.

On June 1, they fit. Today, they were 2" too tight, and 2" is being pretty kind.

Yes, I was hurt and have been unable to exercise. Yes, I have been struggling with medical issues since then. But really, is there ever any excuse to put on 2" in 4 months? Ever?

The reality is that I am not who I want to be. That makes me sad.

It's time to do something, and my first inclination is to grab a beer. :((

This is my three hundred fifty fourth self portrait for 365 Days.
