Happy 1st birthday, Flickr Group Roulette! It's pretty awesome that the brainchild of Clem and the trial is now a full year old. Especially considering the two brains involved.

In honor of this momentous occasion, I copied a FGR photo from one of my favorite fuggers evar: TeeRish (aka my wife). Somehow I managed to get a very similar-looking monkey. Weird, huh?

My wife Josephine does the touristy thing by posing in the hockey player cutout. The hockey helmet actually looks a little like a jockey's helmet.

The cutout is part of an exhibit at Vancouver's Canada Place, celebrating the history of sports in Canada.

Q is for quasi prankster.

My dad works at Shari's Berries around the holidays for fun and extra money. When they have berries that weren't dipped correctly or have any other visual abnormalities (aka "Boo Boo Berries"), he is allowed to take them home... and boy does he bring home a LOT of berries around Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day. This February 14th was no exception; earlier this week he brought me a package of berries and I've been eating them one at a time. Yesterday while cooking dinner I decided to sneak in a berry, only when I bit down on the berry and felt a pain on my tooth I realized THE FUCKIN' BERRY WAS FAKE! My dad had snuck a fake berry in with the real ones, and I had fallen for the prank by trying to bite into the damn thing! When I showed it to Eric, he busted up laughing because my dad had clued him in on the prank! Oh I was pissed!

But this is nothing new with my dad; for as long as I can remember he's been playing pranks on family, friends, and his one and only offspring. One of these days I need to get him back, and good. One of these days... *shakes fists in air*

But alas, today is his birthday and while we were at lunch he got a good ol' laugh as I admitted to him that again he got me good and that I... ya know... hate him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD, YOU QUICK WITTED, QUASI PRANKING, QUIRKY LAME ASS! ♥

PS - I attempted the Orton effect on this shot with a little help from pimpexposure. I did it fairly lightly since I didn't know what I was doing and I'm not even sure this photo is appropriate for the effect... but I tested the waters and tried something new. Woot.

For FGR and I'm a poser

Today's FGR theme is a bit vague, not sure how to take it. So I thought i'd try to give it multiple explanations:

- Self love: I never really liked my tummy, thought it was to chubby. It still kinda is but even now with the marks of my pregnancy, I learned to love it, cause it's part of me.

- It's a naked tummy...there ya go with the nakedness ;)

What better sin to portray since I'm a fat girl. Honestly, I don't stuff my face like this, and again, this was taken in a hurry. Everyone likes to watch and laugh when I take my SP's at work. One of the newbies looked at me today and thought I was a little retarded because of it. Doesn't bother me though. I've been working on my carefree attitude. I have to honestly say, it does feel good just to let those fears slide off my back.

FGR today requested that we go high-key. Generally speaking, that means reduced contrast and shadows are suppressed. The problem, of course, is that I am very tanned and nearly ruddy, so I am just not a candidate to do a good high-key self-portrait. It doesn’t help that I forgot to over expose. Oops.

So, I turned these into decent B/W SPs and am calling it a day. This one was converted to B/W by decomposing to the HSV (hue, saturation, and value) channels, and selecting the value layer. A little curve work and I was done.

Strobist info: I pulled out the big guns today to have my shadows “suppressed”. I have a pair of IKEA Halogen Desk Lamps a foot from my face. The 430EX is behind me, blasting out the wall and killing shadows there. The overall effect is nice, but not high-key. Drat.

For FGR - Urban Legends.

Everyone knows about the diet (ew) coke and mentos fountains... well supposedly some kids ate some mentos and coke and died from it. Of course, that's false. It's the same as the pop rocks and coke myth. Believe it or not, the stomach is one *tough* organ. :)

This was also busted by Jamie and Adam in the Mythbusters. :D

For FGR: Metameta. Sadly, I was too lazy to bring any one of the round foods I have in my home into the picture. I. Am. Lame.

I have a lot for which to credit Flickr. It has made me a better photographer, and by photographer I mean someone who has learned to take better self-portraits. Sure, I try to capture the beauty of nature or the beauty of friends and family, but with a point-and-shoot I feel that triumph is lacking.

This is a meta picture taken with my husband's Nikon D200, yet taken by my little Canon P&S. I very much want to learn to use this amazing piece of equipment before my eyes, and I have resolved to do so. {{{Santa says he's getting me the latest model for Christmas! Eeeep!!!}}}
