Uhoh.. what to do when you’ve got to much time on your hands and are waiting for your phone to be done charging? Well, you browse Flickr.. from the explore pages (really, nothing fancy there..) then further to FlickrCentral going on to FGR and TRP to see some of the old stuff (oh darn that was awesome =)) and then looking up some old photos from myself and some contacts (dang, some contacts have been around for ages, and still going! Unfortunately, some have also left due to the ‘new flickr crap’ but they left other links so, Hurray for that!)

But yeah, while browsing “ ‘ye olde’s photos” there was this craving! The ‘awwwhh, I miss 365 a bit! And I’m talking the original 365 self-portrait thing! I mean sure, there was a whole lot of junk/crap and whatnot produced.. Guilty as charged, but still!

And honoustly, there is so much talent and awesome here also, sometimes browsing the 365 days group it is just interesting to be reading up on what other people are doing at that time or their thoughts, musical assistance (there used to be a whole lot of youtube references, but I do not encounter them as much..) and so on. And also for there, some awesome photos are passing by as well as the normal mugshots but dang, if you feel confident and happy with your photos and writing your stories below them, who really cares?!

But yeah, enough reminiscing off to somewhere else! hope you all have a splendid day / evening (depending on your current location of course =)) damn, I love the internet =)

PS, all the links have been added in a word file (I write all descriptions in Word, as sometimes Flickr loses the description in upload...) but I have to see if all the links work out. =)

134/365 - Some of my Favorite Things by Anthony Skelton

I had a hard time coming up with just one thing for Flickr Group Roulette's day for the A Few of My Favorite Things group. Instead I decided to go with my collection of original movie posters. I've mentioned before that I have worked in movie theaters for quite some time. Aside from free movies another of the perks is taking home the movie posters (in the industry we call them "one sheets") after the movies are done. After six and a half years at the theater I have in my collection 254 different movie posters. With duplicates I have 310. Pictured here is all my posters aside from the four I have up on the wall behind the camera.

Yes I understand I'm a bit ridiculous.

The Shaun of the Dead poster gets special treatment because I got it signed by Edger Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost last year at a Hot Fuzz screening.

It'd be hard to pick just one favorite, but here a few of the great ones I own.

Ocean's 11, The Fountain, Pan's Labyrinth, Kill Bill (with a shiny metal blade). There are so many more but I'll leave the list simple.

Poster I'm most embarrassed to own. Gigli. I only own this because I figure everyone else burned their copy so it's got to be one of a kind at this point. Plus if I ever get the chance for Ben Affleck to sign something of mine it will be this.

FGR today requested that we go high-key. Generally speaking, that means reduced contrast and shadows are suppressed. The problem, of course, is that I am very tanned and nearly ruddy, so I am just not a candidate to do a good high-key self-portrait. It doesn’t help that I forgot to over expose. Oops.

So, I turned these into decent B/W SPs and am calling it a day. I liked this as an SP, so I am posting it too. :-)

Strobist info: I pulled out the big guns today to have my shadows “suppressed”. I have a pair of IKEA Halogen Desk Lamps a foot from my face. The 430EX is behind me, blasting out the wall and killing shadows there. The overall effect is nice, but not high-key. Drat.

This is one of the only things I have from Australia, some old stamps that I got from an old friend who lived there. I haven't talked to her in years, and I was supposed to send her some twinkies, but never did. :(

For FGR – I Propose a Toast to the Hat.

Lighting Info: Killed ambient. SB-600 triggered with Nikon CLS as key above camera (or camera right as it may seem) through umbrella. Power set to 1/4.

Had this fancy idea, but my biceps are still busted after my weight workout yesterday, so I had to improvise. You get an impossible toast instead.

My wife has like 23 different hats, it only seemed natural that I'd use one of those for my SP and FGR shot today.

I also took another shot I really like, unfortunately, it was without the glass.

Played a bit with Lightroom afterwards. Upped the contrast, clarity, and vibrance. Lowered the saturation a bit. Sharpened a bit. And finally added a small vignette.

Because, that way you don't see me with my not-so-secret onsession: a quarter pounter with cheese. I love the darn things! If I had to choose between giving up QP+C or giving up bacon, it would be hard to decide.

OK, who am I kidding? Bacon would win, but I love me some QP+C.

(FGR wanted diptychs too, but good diptychs require actual talent and thought, so that rules me out.)

Today, FGR gave me the chance to think about what I would do if I had a million dollars. Well, I am choosing to think as if I won the lottery, as opposed to worked for the millions. If I'd earned the money, I'd behave much differently.

What would I do with a million dollars? In large part, I would behave like Psychochatter describes (the money part :). I'd put almost all of it into some financial instrument, reserving some for myself to have fun.

So... fun. What then? I came up with two options.

Option A - Have some beer.

Option B - Buy a Triumph Rocket III Touring to ride to work every day.

Yes, I'd still work. And why not? I have nothing to lose! Go ahead and fire me. I'll go riding or have more beer.

So, which of these options do you think I would pick? Beer or Bike? Leave me a comment with your thoughts.

for FGR, 365, and Founder's Day

In all honesty, I haven't had that much interaction with Chris Maverick, the founder of the 365days group here on Flickr, but I started poking around, and WOW! He talks a lot about his feelings in his posts, he takes some great photographs, and he's got some really cool projects going on... I'm going to have to get to know him!

So, I decided to copy-cat This Shot, clearly my "mustache" is noticeably thinner (though I did try for lighting that accentuated any peach fuzz I might have). This is an area I've never really focused-in on... I've done lips, eyes, whole face, but not this nose area... and since I strive to make every picture somewhat different/unique... it worked!

There was also the description, which went into a lot of introspective detail, a lot of which I identified with, and the overall message I took from it was "I'm going to be the person I want to be"

So... here it is... I'm going to be the person I want to be. I've been taking steps recently to bring about some serious change... I'll be living it in the next few months, and I have a good feeling about it.... excitement and hope are brewing.

random fact: 192 was my college mailbox number, and it seems to come up more often than other numbers in my life.

FGR asked us to Make Saturday a Hat Day. I borrowed a friend's hat because we went to a Pimp-n-Ho party.

Then I realized that I'd forgotten my camera. I borrowed my friend's P&S, which looked good on the replay. But home, sober, I can see the focus is way off and the colors were totally whack. The hat is PURPLE (not me)! Glad I didn't see this until after the party, because I went ahead and had a great time. ;-)

For FGR - Drawn-On Photographs.

My idea for this picture was something along the lines of what happens in school yearbooks at times... I happened to be the one that was made fun of in school. I just recently gotten a message from one of my old classmates saying that he was sorry for being a jerk, and how happy he was to hear that I was "successful" I had become. I was amazed, and a little weirded out to find that I was being mentioned in the first place.

Lappy is finally being worked on (she's in two different parts right now!!!), so I'm on hubby's Compy finishing my projects for today. Anyway, I'm cutting this short because there are a few things I need to do tonight before I go to bed.

A little fun with clones for FGR. In this case, it was Clones Malotes / Evil Twins. Gave me a chance to play with GIMP and my Strobist kit.

Oh, and HTNW!

Strobist Info: The shots were taken in near dark. The 430EX was in front, diffused with the SoftBox III, lighting the wall @ 1/64 power. It was fired with the LumoPro adapters and 1/8" mini-plugs. One LP160 was barely out of sight to photo left @ 1/16 power and diffused with the SoftBox LTp—I wanted harsh light. The other was high right, closer to the camera, to light the back slightly @ 1/64 power. I was out of easy diffusers, so I put it farther away and just used the plastic diffuser that came with it.
